it is good that nvz32 has achieved an outcome albeit he is left with a damaged and then to be repaired bar. the ideal and proper outcome would, of course, have been an unquestioned replacement of the damaged bar with a new bar along the lines ... "supplied in a condition suitable for the purpose for which it was purchased".

clearly, the packing prior to shipment was nothing short of inadequate as was the excuse proferred by the shipper.

however of more importance for this Forum and one needing urgent examination is the flawed G/B model used in this G/B and other G/Bs conducted by the Rob260-UAS partnership.

not for the first time one of these G/Bs has hicupped for whatever reason and a standard procedure kicks in. despite a close and personal relationship between the parties, the Organiser refuses to take any role in providing information or in problem resolution; he takes absolutely no accountability role whatsoever. it is then for the middleman, UAS, to respond and to resolve the offending issue/problem and history has shown this to range from quick to drawn out.

the overall issue of principle here, is that these so called G/Bs have grown up over time. the reality is that they are not G/Bs at all ... the Organiser is clearly acting as an Agent for a Company, in this case UAS and UAS is a business selling gear to this and other Forums. rather than parade as a G/B, these arrangements, clearly, should be handled for what they are ... FOR SALE BY BUSINESSES.

in an associated thread, another Forum member raised similar concerns and highlighted a number of conflicts of interest this flawed G/B model raises. it is now time for this anomaly to be corrected by the Forum administration.

As you mention this has been discussed previously and came to rest at:

    1. Rob does not work at UAS
    2. Rob does not get any profit or benefit in any way other than getting the parts at the GB rate.

Therefore it is a textbook group buy, regardless of everyone's theories or issues, unless Rob does a runner with the money or is otherwise dishonest or UAS are banned from operating on the forum for some reason then there is no reason these GBs shouldn't continue.

I for one hope they don't stop as I beleive Rob and UAS contribute alot to the 300zx community and to this forum.

Your interpretation of the above GB arrangements is absolutely on the money(in spite of all the bullshit that has been proffered by other parties).

The cold hard facts of this is,

IF these GB's have to be performed entirely by UAS, they will not occur(this is due to UAS NOT having sufficient staff or available time, to justify allocating someone to do all the time consuming requirements involved in such an exercise).

Rob260's generous involvement is given in good faith and is entirely without remuneration(although there is a great deal of good will generated between Rob & JP).

Innuendo and false accusations have no place in this arrangement in my opinion(although they frequently create friction on this forum, seemingly without interference from those in charge of "keeping the peace").

Who would want to be a Moderator?

I seem to recall UAS/JP announcing quite some time ago, that if there were to be any GB's or "Special Deals" emanating from his area, it would need to be handled by someone outside his Staff.
Rob260 was the individual who stepped forward(I'll bet he sincerely regrets that decision, at the moment).

I for one, wish to go on record as saying that I am appreciative of the efforts of all involved in that arrangement.

On a lighter not I'd like to express my happiness with the diffuser through a couple of pics.
I have a new man on the job, the boss's son. I asked him to strike a pose and this is what I got.

These winglets will be the same colour of my car and the rest of the bottom diffuser gold to match my wheels.

I'd like to say "thanks" to all concerned for a job well done, on my end anyhow. I know a lot of time and effort has gone into this and I'd like it to be known I'm very grateful.
It's also nice to know something has been done about this mini disaster.

Your right, rob doesn't work at UAS and doesn't get any profit from the sales, but starts a GB , them moves all tranactions to UAS:confused:
As for textbook, i'd wouldn't like to be one off the 10 (as offered )(1st post off the GB) people who stepped up early for this GB, then to be dragged out longer, so to sell more(after reading the supplyers post).
GB guidelines state numbers, timelines, which were not followed.

In my opinion the group buy relationship with Rob and UAS is flawed. UAS dont have the time apparantly to deal with these group buys so they dont run them , but then they are stuck to deal with situations like this with an unhappy customer, a claim with toll and a bit of bad press.

It doesnt seem fair for Rob to organise it and take payments etc, but then its up to UAS to ship them out and in the event of a damaged item Rob has nothign to do with it?

In a case like this, is it a Rob260 GB or a UAS GB organised initially by Rob260?

Since UAS run a online store(for quite a long time ), i'd think that someone has a job sitting infront off a computer, mangering sales, so 20 or so extra sales over a few months couldn't cause that much more work.

I've havn't seen any other GB where the fourm member starts a GB then pass it onto the supplyer in the GB area off the fourm.

This is a fiasco. This thread was started because ONE bumper was damaged during shipping(and is currently being redressed).

Everything else on here is about the validity of a GB involving Rob260 and UAS.
It is clear that several termites are now emerging from the woodwork(but for what purpose, you may ask)?
Apparently to torpedo any future GB's involving product from UAS or it's suppliers.
Who stands to suffer as a result of this?
    Not Rob260(he doesn't profit from these GB's).
Not UAS, as they can simply continue to be the sole distributor of these products(at an inflated price, not a GB price).
That leaves the forum members(who can't or won't source these items at a dearer cost, and so will go without).
Who will have a moral(but empty)victory? The same old group of assorted, mean spirited, back-stabbing whingers, whose nicknames feature regularly in finger-pointing posts and threads.
    Another successful campaign(or is it)?:eek::eek:

Why/how would Rob sort out these issues with toll and poor packaging etc? This is an issue for the supplier of the product and the transporter of the product to work out.

The only additional input rob could of had was to organise the packaging at the start of the arrangement as part of the freight component.

Rob is simply a guy who wants something cheaper, organises a "quote" for x amount of the product at x amount cheaper, offers this to the forum to help him achieve the numbers and then its given back to UAS to sort out the supply of the product at the end of the day.

I really don't understand why so many people are upset by the Rob/UAS situation, the only difference I can see is:

    1. Rob has a personal relationship with the supplier of the product however this is irrelavent entirely unless evidence can be provided showing that Rob gets a benefit from the GB other than receiving the GB discount

    2. The supplier of the product is a member of the forum and therefore can communicate directly to us so we can get the info "straight from the horses mouth"

Why are you posting on here? You seem somewhat delusional(and I am already filling that position)?:eek:
It matters very little that you are totally correct in your reasoning.:p:rolleyes:

Interior Leather group buy a month or 2 back, organised by vader but we payed khalid from interior innovations directly & he group shipped to each state (or individually for extra $).

Its an expensive body part, personally I feel much better paying the supplier direct & having them ship to me rather than pay a middle man, who then pays supplier, who ships part to middle man, who then ships part to me. Thats a massive muck around, who gives a stuff if rob didn't handle the product or cash directly?

The last big dollar body part group buy where the organiser handled the cash was the beet widebody buy where zx2nv buggered off with circa $10k, personally I like rob's arrangement...

Now how about we get back on topic hey?

edit: Actually lets just lock it up again.

I don't normally post unless I have something helpful to say to a member..

The reason I have stuck my opinion in here is because Rob does the forum a favour by running these GB and I want them to continue so in the future I can get parts at a discounted rate.

Agree that thread should be locked, OP is getting his bar repaired and seems happy with this outcome.

Fiberglass products should be boxed in some sort of wooden box frame as it's so easy to crack....or fitted in a carboard box with the moulded padded protection to fit around the product. We're living in 2011 !!!! ....not 1840's.... Get it together suppliers!!!
Suppliers who ever or what ever your product is, investing in supply is just as important as the first $$$ you spent on your fiberglass moulds. Don't let your customers have to fix up your supply problems........
Treat any Z products with respect.
    Cheers
