well not much to update here.. I'm down in VIC doing a SGT course.. Before I left I dropped my heads into the shop to get them machined so they would fit flat on the block. Got a phone call soon after, saying the valves were shot and I needed new ones so I agreed. Then got another call that he had to grind out to make the valves sit flush. I fly back on Tuesday night, and hopefully will be able to pick them up on Wednesday providing my boss doesnt want to send me field for another month when I get back lol.. So with any luck I will have more photos and progress on the motor next weekend..
Haha didn't really think people were following? Well I got back from course on the Tuesday night, and had my ingrown toe nail cut out first thing on the Wednesday. Been limping around since, the doc cut out both sides of the one nail.. it's still throbbing.. But I managed to go pick up my heads they had been cleaned, machined, bored and new valves fitted also machined in so they sit flush.. And I gotta give a shout out to DC Engines here in Townsville :zlove: he loves his cash jobs.. Here's some pics of the heads.. still wrapped in plastic :zlove: they look like new! Today I thought I'd finally slap some filler on the timing belt covers and tomara I'll be playing some more with them.. Just a quick pic.. botice any thing different? :zlove: And before I went on course I degreased the sh1t out of the engine bay.. I currently have the lifters on my kitchen table, and am stripping them. Just need to find some thing to soak them in.. see this threadhttp://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=305035 Spoke with my house mate, he plans on putting the motor back together this weekend.. So will hopefully update more later
Well I gace up on the lifters last night. But as son as I finished work I was down stairs pulling them apart. After a couple I got the hang of it and they pretty much fell apart.. except for the last one! that needed a little more force They are currently soaking in a mixute of kero, petrol and degreaser.. will go check on them in an hour and go from there Honestly thought this would be hard, but it is going really well at the moment. Bring on the weekend
Just rebuit the lifters.. was easy as.. found it easier to sit on the table and push it all together when it flat on the table.. then clicking it in once finished.. oh and I had asyringe to put oil the oil in the spring to save making a mess.. built all 24 lifters back together in 30min also found some paint for the covers, there undercoated down stairs atm. Tomara afternon they will get a lick of paint and then we are going to start putting the heads back on during the week. :br:
Watch this space.. We're putting the heads back on at lunch time, then bolting all the goodies back on I can't wait..
I have 2 short head bolts. Any one know which hole the go into too? And I don't have a det sensor, so I need to block that hole?
Sorry about the silly questions above.. I used the search function and found out about the bolts Just unsure what to do about the Det sensor? I've already bypassed it with the help of 90TTZ, just unsure if I should be replacing it? or just leave the hole empty? will oil squirt out?
Yeah. My mate just got home, and I got in trouble lol. My wife saw me down stairs playing on the motor doing nothing, she ashed if she could help? I said I can't do any thing cause I need a torque wrench. So my loving wife jumped in the car and went and brought me a torque wrench so I could put the car together.. She came home and I was so excited. My house mate came home (the mechanically minded one) seen the torque wrench and laughed. Said it'll be good to put the cam covers on, but it's not big enough for the heads. lol So every thing is on hold till Tuesday night, house mate is going to bring his tools home from work and put the rest of the engine together On a plus we picked up the engine crane from a mate today so it is slowly getting closer.. And I'm gonna look into going and buying a new det sensor.. Might as well change it when we can.. So till next weekend
Was up to midnight last night. Just a quick pic, will update more this afternoon as I'm running late for work lol. More to come tonight :zlove:
haha thanks for the link.. will be buying that one now. it buy a knock sensor from conz $95, and from the local nissan dealer here in Townsville $495!! WTF Had guard last night, but have a half day today and tomara off so will be doing more today Thanks for the comments guys will post more pics later tonight
It's slowly comming together.. The green is the same as the VE holden commodore green, my cheap camera doesn't show it properly.. Going to head down stairs and go about putting the mounts and turbos and stuff on hopefully today..
I've checked all my engine photos and random engine photos I've saved over the last couple of years. But I am unable to find what bolts go in these holes? Hole number 1 is just under the tensioner. It might be a hole that holds the lower cover on? but hole number 2 has me worried. It is in the heads. I've checked heaps of photos and it looks like it is left empty? Any help would be great.. I've just bolted my sump on, and now I'm about to place the oil tree on before I look at putting the turbo's back on it is slowly coming back together..
