Well I have picked up the parts from being balanced, and there home ready to go. My house mate is gonna put the bottom end back together this weekend. Will keep putting it together till we run out of parts.

I found some one in townsville that will powder coat my plenum! and he's putting it in with a heap of business gear so it's only costing a carton! I was previously quoted 300 bucks, so I'm happy to finally getting it done..

On a sad note, my daily has just about given up the game :( When I brought it I didnt test drive it just had it shipped up from Sydney. When it got here my mate checked it over and said the clutch was on it's way out. Its a common problem on the xtrails apparently. It has been on it's way out now for over a year. I was going to fix it but figured it could hold out till chrstmas, as I really wanted to get my zed back on the road.. and yesterday I managed to crunch every gear, even got stuck in gears.. Spoken to my house mate and his doing up a quote for me to fix it. So I'm gonna be stuck on my bike for a couple of weeks.

I have recieved my posting order and I'm definetly going to VIC at christmas, so now it's a race to try get as much of the zed together so it can travel. I dont wanna loose bits on the way..

So next year, bring on VIC cruises!

Will get some photos while were putting it back together :)

Well were slowly cleaning all the old gaskets and stuff off every thing. Were almost ready to start putting it back together..

My house mate has just asked me to try find some infomation on clearances.. only problem is I have no idea were to even look :(

    He wanted piston clearance?
Torque for the ARP head and main stud kit?
And clearance for some thing else that has just slipped my mind..

Where would I find these clearances? I have oversized forged pistons and rods, would I use stock clearances? Are they in the tech manual?

Cant wait to just put this thing back together..

Clearances should come with your pistons and rods. I was looking at a set of Wiesco's yesterday and they had it on the bit of paper that came in the box.

Torque settings for the ARP bolts should be on the ARP website.

Cheers chrispy :) all good we found every thing we needed :)

Now I just need some assembly grease so we can start putting it back together :) well at least the bottom end :)

Well I'm slowly cleaning the parts up, and found some assembly grease.. The motor should be getting put back together on Sat :) well the bottom end any ways :)

Cleaning the parts I'm finding some amazing stuff.. like most of it is alloy (silver in colour) goes to show how messy my engine bay was I suppose.. Super cheap degreaser in a red can is the bomb :) can't go past $2 a can :)

My mate that is helping me is great, he lent me his skyline to get to work today, (he has 2) and gave me his 'fast' one to drive. He said this should help give you some motivation.. and DAMN!! it's a 500rwhp machine! not much room behind the wheel for us big fella's.. but damn when it comes on boost, it literally screams :) very fun..

So enough typing I'm going to clean up some more parts :)

Put the motor back together today :) well the bottom end :) I have lotsa photos which I will post up later on, but....

I need to know if a bolt goes here to the left of the oil pump? I cant find one, and I've gone through heaps of photos from when we pulled the motor and can't see a bolt there..

    Does any one know?

Thats the bolt hole for the alternator belt tensioner bracket.

I really need to do my build thread but I can't be assed haha..

If you need a hand with anything mate you got my number...I just recently went through all this so its all still fresh!

Well here's a update, and some photos..

Yesterday we put the bottom end together as far as we could until we had to search for a hand full of bolts..

The ARP studs bolts in :)

    Setting the right torque :)

The assembly line :) who would have thought it would be so hard to put those little rings in that hold the rod onto the piston!

Piston number one assembled.. after this they just put them selves together, was so much easier :)

This is where we stopped yesterday.. Bottom end complete :)

    Pumps in and ready :)

The table of parts :) note the bags with bolts, I have written roughly were each bolt goes.. Best idea I had, just which I'd started this as soon as I said lets pull the motor.. Wouldn't be searching for a couple of misplaced bolts..

I've also picked up my black plenum, it looks great.. Kinda wising I had it chromed but when it's together it should stand out :)

Well I have to go down stairs and clean up the heads :) and pack to go field for a week :(

I'm so happy that it has started coming together.. I was so worried at one stage there.. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter, and I can see where I'm going :)

It maybe back on the roads in Townsville yet :) the heads are in the shop and when I get back from course I will be putting the rest of the motor back together hopefully..

Yes I am moving at the the end of the year, but I have been told by my wonderful removalists that the car needs to be in one piece! and my mate that is building the car wants to see the car turn over before leaving town.. So the zed just might run yet..

1989zx - is your zed sitting in a mechainc in south townsville? near the port? if it is please call me.. lol hopefully before it's too late lol..

i get back off course and i will have 3 days off hopefully, so the plan is to hopefully use that time on the zed!
