well it's all go go go up here in the sunny north qld.. as a couple of people may remember i had a mishap at mackay drag way and had to get the car trucked back home.. it took almost 3 months to get her home, it went on vacation in airlie beach at my parents garage lol.. the car is back home now tho, and after unplugging disconnecting every thing.. we decided it was time.. we pushed the zed out into the street and pulled the motor in the court.. although next time i'm pushing it up to the shade, cause the bitumen was very hot when undoing the engine mounts..lol took us just under an hour to get the actual motor out, had a beer then pushed every thing away.. here's some photos of the motor coming out.. and the man that helped.. after some beers the car and engine was pushed back under the house.. since this i have taken the gearbox off and putting the engine on a stand to strip it back.. one of my mates here loves building motors and currently finshed building his 500kw skyline, and is now stripping my motor to forge it up i purchased karl's old GT28R turbos and are getting bolted on.. plus lots of other stuff.. but it wouldn't be a motor pull thread with a certain photo.. as i do stuff, i will update this and we'll see how it all goes.. no great rush to get it back on the road.. but when it does go back on, it will be side ways lol
I still don't know how you drive a Zed Even though I've sat next to you while driving... Leigh looks pretty happy with himself And who has the Supra? Mrs's?
forget to add what our plan was.. dress up the engine bay with the air brush hicas delete looking at the z1 side mounts bigger radiator 555 injectors all the usual deletes forged rods and pistons, plus what ever else my mate suggests lol repainting the re end of the car GT28R turbos umm lotsa stuff.. already fully built the gear box as some of you might remember after motor goes back in so far i've promised a 100m skid.. so that's our current aim lol
yeah that's the missus's supra.. the number plate say b47BIE or if you put your tongue hard to the right and tilt your head it reads barbie.. Been a while since i've uploaded some photos. here's some more sad photos.. taken before it died.. leaving airlie beach.. big smile, she's coming home! the current tow car, parts collector.. lol rolin vip on 20's.. lol
it was my job to stand on the back of the engine crane to stop it tipping lol.. nah lee just likes it dirty.. got a chair now to sit on.. will make stripping the motor so much easier.. also brought a new toy too.. will post it up once it arrives..
WTF, is that Up the pole, looks like a big arse spider, Don't you want any tourists in your town. Yeah corona FTW.
they have spiders every where around townsville.. dunno why.. there's one on the main night clubbing strip! you wouldnt wanna have a phobia.. lol airbrush.. i've already painted the sides of the car and it turned out ok.. todays efforts - put the motor on a engine stand.. removed every bolt bar 1 from the manifold to remove the turbo.. damn it's a hard one too.. hopefully will get around to it over the weekend..
Pulling the engine out on the road Good to see you roped Leigh into the engine pull, he needs the practice before he does his own. It's going to be a bit of a comp now, who will have their car back on the road first but I hope it's me otherwise no Z for the Fest
technically it never left the road since the engine pull looks like it was done... on the road lol.... and whats this street scene sticker i see! argh! lol look forward to seeing the results
ahh the QLDSTREETSCENE.COM sticker lol.. yeah i dunno why i go on there, they are mostly key board warriors.. i wish they had some thing going like perthstreetscene.com lol then i'd always be dirting up my car just for the car washes.. lol quick up date of today.. pushed motor to the side to help mate pull rb motor out of his slivia.. never again, i believe the zed motor was easier to pull.. heading down stairs soon to try again at this manifold bolt.. it will be coming off, even if it doesn't want to..
update for today.. got the bolt off, removed the drivers side manifold with turbo.. pulled the plenum, piece of cake.. coupla bolts and it was done.. filled the motor up and done the passenger side manifold.. what a bitch.. i dropped the coolant plug, and almost drowned lol.. snapped my spanner.. but i kept with it and removed the manifold.. i will write up how later on, cause it was pretty tricky just us little backyad mechanics.. so i'm left with the block now. just need to unbolt every thing from the back off the motor and remove the timing belt then my mate here is gonna open her up.. there is so much bloody oil every where.. lol
AFTER CHRISTMAS UPDATE.. what a productive christmas eve.. my mate came home from work and announced he's on leave.. walked under the house and said lets strip it before santa gets here.. it's came apart really easily, took around 2 hours and it was a bare block.. and found some interesting things along the way.. looks like the turbo's weren't blown my mate believes.. as we pulled out the top to explose the top of the pistons we found some serious detenation on piston number 6. my mate said, that the oil seals might be ok on the turbos and that the oil might have most probably been coming from this.. we turned the motor upside down to remove each piston and as we undid the 2 nuts on the rods the pistons were vitually falling out the bottom, there must have been bugger all compression on my 5 cyclinder motor lol.. here's some pics.. here's shane hard at work.. can't see the corona bottles lol.. the parts laid out.. where's the degreser lol what we seen as we viewed the pistons lol.. here's a bad photo of the side of the piston.. got me a trophy for the pool room.. so after new years the block is going in to get acid dipped and bored over size.. and then i'll be ordering some new over sized pistons and rods.. but unfortually i need to sell my other project first before i can go any further any one interested in buing a mighty boy lol.. as we pulled it all apart one phrase came to mind.. "now me and the mad scientist have to pull apart the block and replace the pistons rings you fried"
I had a feeling it might have been a failed piston. Lesson to be learned by all, this is what happens when you throw a lot of boost for sustained periods with a stock ECU tune. My #2 piston did not look quite as impressive as yours though Stretch .
You're making great progress there Stretch! Good work so far, i'm sure this thing will be a weapon when you've put her back together again! Keep the updates coming bud!
Great progress stretch, coming along nicely :zlove: out of interest how much boost were you running on the stock ecu?
well my boost gauge said i was running 14psi.. but while pulling the engine out i found many boost probable leaks so it could've been a lot more.. i had boost jets, plus a turbo tech manual boost controller.. i probably should have done a boost leak test.. but after pulling the motor i found that the turbo's were ok, the oil was on the out side from leaks.. and the oil on the inside of the passenger side was from number 6 piston letting go.. in a big way.. lol can't wait to get these 28r's strapped onto the side of this bad boy..
