    Manual steering rack

I installed the manual steering rack this the weekend and it works well. For the technical people, it takes 25Nm to turn the steering wheel while the car is a rest. Which ain't to heavy

The steering rack is from a Mitsubishi Galant.
The rack shaft is the same length and diameter as the ZX rack, only difference is the pitch of the thread for the tie rods.
I've used Mistsubishi tie rods, they are the same length and thread as the ZX, so it's allowed me to use the ZX rod ends

This what it looked like when I first got it

I cast my own mounting bushes from a cold castable urathane CC95A

The coupling on the rack input shaft is a combination of the ZX coupling and the Galant coupling. They both use the same universal joint

I've replaced the rubber coupling on the steering column with an aluminium spacer

    1 more milestone reached

Exhaust manifolds and exhaust finished :)
Due to the lack of space around the steering, cost and time, I didn't end up with the tri-y and 2 1/2 exhaust I was planning.
I ended up being knocking up something that would fit and reusing the 2 1/4 cat back sysyem I had made for the original engine. I can always change to a bigger system later

    Mounting screws on firewall

Does anyone now what the mounting screws in the piccys are for.
Its been a long time since I pull the car apart and I have no photos showing the screws

    Fuel rails? Ie hardlines?

Nope, you can see them bolted up in the piccy ;)

Not sure what most of them are for. Brackets for cabling I guess. The one between the two holes is the aircon pipework clamp thing.

So when are you going to start selling the manual rack conversions as a kit ???
I will put my hand up for one.

issue with using a manual rack out of something else is they are usually way too many turns lock to lock. This is why I depowered the zed rack rather than do this.

    No chance of a kit

Theres way to much work and problems involved with make up a kit.
Also I don't know how good it will work till I get the car back on the road and give it a good run. It could turn out to be crap.
The number of turns lock to lock as gone from 2.7 with the power steering to 3.25

    .

Thats better than the 4.2 turns that the bolt on manual rack out of a R31 Skyline/Pintara is. I didnt want the hassle of making mount rubbers. I prob would have machined alloy ones. But good on you for the innovation.

    Aluminium bushes

If the urathane bushes I've cast don't work I plan to have ali bushed machined up

Crap paint job, but at least its clean and theres paint in places that lacked any paint.

Clutch installed and tested. Works OK, only taken 4 years

Gearbox fitted and bolted up. In no rush to take them out again

Orig Infinity engine mounts replace with UAS performance mounts

Fabricated a fibreglass dust cover for the gearshifter extension

Engine and gearbox in and bolted up

After a few small mods to the gearshifter I can now select 6th and reverse gears.

    Headache time

Pulled out the wiring harnesses for the ZX and VH engine today !OMG!

Worked out the small ones for the VH injectors & spark plug coils and fitted one set of sparkplug coils with its harness.

The engine harnesses where on problom, the VH one is now in the car

Getting that feeling that I may get my zed back on the road

But can anyone tell me what the white connector is for on the ZX engine harness
    [IMG]

Also besides the starter motor where does this harness connect to
