Hi guys, First post here. Want to order a s2 ptu as a possible fix to some intermittant problems aswell as insurance. Just need to know if there is alot of rewiring needed etc using diagrams or is it a pretty straight forward process for an amateur zedder. Cheers, Luke
Wiring will be pretty straight forward, Ill be making up a diagram tonight. If you dont have a harness for converting S1 to S2 you will need to cut off your old plugs. I can probably make up some harnesses if people need for a cost.
Ok, so will need to hard-wire the new plugs. Shouldn't be too hard. Will just have to fashion some sort of backing plate and get some screws that fit. Cheers, Luke
I dropped off the Adaptor leads to Stuey today. He is gonna make a nice CAD drawing for everyone. Thanks Mate !! If you are fitting the PTU back in the asame spot as the old one you will need to make up a Alloy plate the same size with mounting holes same as the old PTU and screw this new one to it. Then bolt it to the old stud mounts. Or you could put it in a better spot. This is not too taxing for the amount of cash we have saved. GJ
Zrated is selling the plugs with connectors, but as I understand the connectors need to be crimped. As I asked on his group buy post, but got no answer What crimp tool do you need for the connectors ? I don't trust just using pliers, no guarantee you get a perfect connection. Anybody else know? Soldering makes a perfect connection but leaves the cable ends brittle. Crimping without a proper tool may cause a lot of problems.
Wiring Diagram (unconfirmed) I have drawn up this wiring diagram by copying the harness Graham loaned me that will show you where to pinout to the original engine loom. ie without harness. Please note that until some one concurs that this is indeed correct this diagram will be considered Unconfirmed use at your own risk. For reference here is the Series 1 Diagram which Ive drawn from the Z32 Wiring Diagram. So you can see the difference
Sorry i havent been following the thread, are the connectors included in the GB ? Is everything i need there or will i need to buy something else extra ? And i am in this aswell
The crimp tool is a bit expensive to crimp these terminals. IMO it is not neccesary. The pliers to crimp and a good solder joint is enough. I agree about stiffening the wire. But unless you want to spend $35 for the crimp tool, solder them. The terminals have a strain releif after the wire joint anyway. I am sure it will be OK.
Tested? Hi Guys If this is all good i'm going to jump on board, but my question is, has anyone plugged this PTU into their zed and tested it, as in not heard someone is running it, seen it, tested it. I have a skyline ptu in my shed, which i believe is from a R33 or R32, i'll have to ask, but when i first saw it, i had the same idea.! it looks just like a series 2 zed ptu. However, i checked the pictures on the ttzed and the codes on my ptu didn't match. I'm not sure about part numbers though i was just looking at the numbers and codes on the top of the ptu. Cheers
Is it too late to order one? I can send payment off before tues. (also connectors and mounts) Regards, Tim
Guys when bought the series 2 PTU kit, I shortly afterwards hard wired the series 2 plugs into the main harness and dumped the patch harness. Let me know if you would like me to unwrap mine and send in a diagram of which wire goes to which pin. I won't bother if someone is on the case though.
