Well a plenum pull seems the way to go, thanks Eric I would degrease and go for a drive other than half the hoses are now disconnected and the dumps are half off... Did you replace the PCVs last time? If not I might do that as well. What would you seal the cam covers with?
Yes, pcv cam with the 100k kit, I am pretty sure I done all the hoses for pcv's etc aswell so they should all still be soft. Use coppermax silicone, supercheap etc have it. Also get a couple of new intake cam cover gaskets from nissan, they are about $30 each. In the back of the heads on the exhaust side is a half moon rubber plug, replace these aswell as they are always rock hard.
Valve seal kit ordered from Coz As well as an intercooler hose kit and a BMC brace. Since it's not the turbos I can do the rest of the things I needed to while I've got the car off the road. Also need to find that boost leak....! My Z had a message for me when I got home for lunch: ... too bloody right! Oh and I now have a blog, with RSS feed! Just for funsies... wooo http://plenumpull.blogspot.com/
I see what looks like a bike handle on the right, is Sticky helping you repair your Zed? Nice work btw, now come do mine.
Bike parts FTW! Oh and anyone can remove a plenum, the real test is putting it back together and the starting the car first time Pictures of the removal stages, mostly for my reference if i can't remember something.
My poor Z!!!!!! My workshop is a mess I should invest in some shelving I think the dust storm got into my brain because I've started polishing my plenum.... somebody shoot me! It's obviously only early stages, more experimentation for now. First run is with a steel wire drill attachment to reduce the bumps on the surface, followed by 40-grit sand paper to remove all roughness, then I'll progress to higher grade sandpaper to remove the scratches and make it nice and smooth, and the final step will be with a polishing kit. I won't be doing the whole plenum, I'm nearly dead already... just the top and front will do for me. I've completely removed the AIVs from the wheel wells and fender area but haven't found anything to plug the holes in the exhaust yet. While I had the fenders off I took the opportunity to fix my misaligned door. Just a matter of loosening the top hinge bolts, jacking the door up and re- tightening the hinge bolts. I got the height right first time Here's what it's been doing to my poor car: ... but not anymore Question Time: Is the carbon canister supposed to vent to air? During the last trip I made to Somerset dam, my mum was made quite sick by the fuel smell from just normal cruising... I've sealed it up as shown in the next photo. Is this ok? Also, what's this: Thanks everyone
Bottle in the front is the AC dryer, Thought the carbon canistor was meant to get rid of the fuel fumes?
That should plug into a nipple that vents to inside the chassis rail. Aircon dryer. You need it if you like aircon.
Little black one with a bit of rust inside on the right hand side. The big one on the left is for the big fat pipe that comes out of the cannister.
Well done a top effort After reading this I feel I might attempt to have a go at my plenum soon. Although, I'll go for the "buy a pre polished plenum" and associated stuff I think. Cheers Pete
For sure, it's not that hard to pull the plenum, even for a tech nerd like me I would definitely be getting a pre-polished plenum too! Doing it yourself is no fun...
Where do you get the prepolished ones, Caz hasn't had them in stock for a long time. I was thinking of powder coating.
