Hehe as you can see I didnt get to even take any photos before I had the front in pieces... all so I could just install some HIDs

Picked the car up at 8:30, finished work @ 6:30, ummed and ahhhhed about whether I should install the HIDs, decided to start @ 9pm - less than 12hrs after buying it! Anyway I realised I couldnt install the HIDs without removing the headlight units as I wanted to put the ballasts underneath. Work on removing the front bar start @10pm, gave up @ 1am and came back to it about 9am. Finally had it all together by 3pm in time to wash it by 4 (stupid water restrictions).

Someone managed to snap this while i was busy scrubbing my rims:

I put my ballasts under the h/lights with out pulling it all apart.
Suggest read the tech section first before tackling the next job, might save you some extra work.;)
Good quick way to learn about the Zed though.
    like the mirrors, welcome.

Thanks everyone! It survived the cruise today, mostly. Temp gauge started to creep up after some wild boosting but was ok after I cut back on the thrashing. Rims aren't that choice but I will get new ones someday... not a priority right now.

I decided to remove the bumper because I couldnt get the new bulbs seated properly and had to cut the rubber dust covers to fit, so I wanted to make sure it was all sealed up. Also I don't have slim ballasts(about 1 inch think) so I couldn't find anywhere suitable to install them other than under the headlights, and I couldnt get them under there without removing the whole headlight, and i couldn't remove the headlights without removing the front bumper, the small radiator at the front, and the fan and air box..... but it happened in the end :)

Next I need to install my MBC, boost gauge, temp gauge and find and install a pod filter.... that's gonna take some research :|

Haha *smothers flame wars about his rims*

Thanks for helping me out Baz with everything too, and the CD. The Zed does has some issues that annoy me (i hate squeaks, rattles, noises, chimes, bouncing, etc) but for a 19yo car she drives beautifully, and performs beyond all my expectations. The best thing is the Zed's Spousal Approval Factor is 100%!!! :D

Are these 350z Brembo calipers on the fronts? Very nice!

Not sure where they came from, but yes Brembo FTW! lol thanks. Now I just need slotted rotors to suit!

    Well here's a progress report:

I've been attempting to to the diagnosis on the A/T for some time now - without success. I've followed the tech articles to the letter, even spent a constant 20 minutes on the weekend doing it. I just cannot get the A/T light on the dash to flash. I've confirmed the kick-down and O/D switches are OK. I really want this to work because the gear changes are just all wrong and it's annoying me.

Other than that, I went to install my boost gauge and couldnt figure out which hose to tap into (so many vacuum lines!) and the only pics I could find of an install where stupid American ones where everythings back to front... so I got distracted and started cleaning all my connections with electrical solvent. I then remembered the PTU suffers from poor connections quite often so took it out and cleaned the terminals. After putting it all back together (does anyone else remove the drivers manifold intake hose to do this (oh and i found some rather large scratches in the throttle body... what the?)) I found the car felt like it only had 5 cylinders and was vibrating reaaaally bad.... damn I made it worse. The back of my PTU has also been sealed up with black goo so I couldn't disassemble it to check inside either (normal??). After a trip to Bunnings to get a set of needle files I proceeded to clean all the pins on the PTU. OMG they're actually not green! lol. Now it's running better than it ever was :) Then I decided to try the ECU for error codes. That was a mongrel to get out. I don't like being upside down in my car wearing long pants at 11pm when it's stuffy and hot. Got there in the end and got an error code of 13. Did some research, blah blah... Read an old post from K-Zed who suggested to clean the terminals on the CTS. I did that (they were greener than the PTU!) and rechecked the ECU codes - ALL CLEAR :D I found that because of the Code 13 it had been on safety boost since I had it, and who knows how long before that. Now I can feel the power even more, and the back end does like to get slippery on a spirited take-off now.

Some things to do in the future:
Find where to connect the boost gauge sensor and hook it up.
Get a radiator hose adaptor for my water temp gauge.
Get some new suspension - mine's quite bouncy on the bumps but if you do the 'push test' it just returns straight to normal, so bouncing around.... wth!
    Still need a pod filter...
Need to rescrew the A/T and ECU computers back into the floor instead of sitting loose under the carpet.
    I'll add more later...

    BUMP

Has anyone got some advice re: A/T diags and boost gauge install?

Boost gauge is a fairly easy one .

Find a vacuum hose coming off the balance tube , cut it , get a T-piece and join them back together.
Put the hose from your boost gauge on the T .
Run the hose through where the bonnet release cable goes ( comes out under all that solenoid crap next to the brake master cylinder )
Once you have it in your cabin figure out where you want your boost gauge to sit .
    Good luck :)
