its the black bar that runs across the top of the plenum ( top if the motor )
I T-d mine into one of the vacuum hoses that come off the back drivers side of it

Aah sweet, I'll have a look after work. I thought that was the fuel rail... Thanks again!

yep the fuel rail runs right in front of the balance tube , the fuel rail connects to the balance tube also. Just some vacuum/boost hoses for fuel pressure, goes the fuel pressure regulator.

    Not quite right

Fuel rail dosen't connect to the balance tube,
fuel rail is under the plenum with the injectors in it.
Petrol lines to and from the tank run in front of the balance tube conected to the fuel damper and the pressure regulator, which in turn connect to the fuel rail, vacuum hose runs off the damper to the balance tube.:)

    yep your right
I meant it connects to balance tube here ( in red )[IMG]
Anyway KIZ circled in blue is how I hooked up my boost gauge.
    not my zed btw

    More Photos!

Well the time of washing my car finally coincided with the camera having its batteries fully charged, so now I can post some proper photos :)

This one I tried to modify in Photoshop, just a bit too much contrast I think.... just a bit....

    Here's both my cars together, they are quite opposites if you think about it(300ZX/Yaris): Red/Blue, Powerful/Gutless, Low/Tall, Long/Short, Wide/Skinny, Stock/Modified (slightly), Thirsty/Economical, Auto/Manual, Cool/LAME!

This shot really shows the different chassis/body design differences:

I was so busy fiddling with stuff I didn't even notice Teegan taking these. I think I was running wires for my gauge pod and cleaning my gauge cluster...:

UHHH! The thing won't go in!

The newest member of the family is already in the hot seat! :p

Oh well I hope you enjoyed looking at these as much as I did creating them!

Oh and I finally made myself a sig pic while I was at it :D

    UPDATE:
    -----------

I got my 100k service and plenum bypass done by Eric (drz400y). At the same time he fitted some replacement auto turbos in VGC, GReddy turbo timer, and an Autometer Phantom II Boost Gauge.

The next day I went to the exhaust shop across the road from work and got 2.5" pipes from the resonators back, with 14" mufflers and twin 3" tips on each muffler. There's a bit of droning when accelerating mildly between 1500-2500 but other than that its got a sweet idle rumble and wicked WOT bellow. The shop said I already had new resonators and the cats were in good nick. No more pathetic sounds from a leaking exhaust :D

Tonight I installed my APEXi Power Intake to complement the new exhaust. Took the Zed for a spin and can notice it does make a difference. After half an hour of getting from 0-60/70/80 (depending on the limit) as fast as possible from the lights I spared no boost in getting home to check the water temp: only 85C! Fantastic!! :D Of course it wasn't the midday heat so it's not the best indication of all possible situations but it's good enough for me - good work Eric!

    What's on the agenda now?
    - New rear shocks and springs (probably getting the tried and true Einbach springs on KYB AGX shockies)
    - Original steering wheel with Cruise Control buttons (mine has a Zed wheel but no buttons :p )
    - Alarm system with immobiliser (for insurance/theft compliance), remote central locking and maaaaybe remote start.
    - EBC, once I can find a decent 2nd hand one for a good price. Only looking to run 11-12psi.

I will post more pics of the car one day when it's washed, the camera has charged batteries, and the sun is out. Might take a shot of the old stock air filters... they are mostly BLACK lol!

I took the front bumper off again (!) today to check the IC pipes for leaks. Nothing looked out of the ordinary so I sprayed some WD40 liberally around the ends of the pipes and started the car. After about 10 seconds all the WD40 was dried up.... it doesnt evaporate that quickly normally. I tightened up all the clamps on the IC piping and let the car idle for a few minutes. I tried revving to about 3-4000RPM at WOT and couldnt hear any turbo spooling or retric noise like I used to... maybe it was just loose pipes? Maybe I'm just hearing things...

I'll test it out on the road under proper load tomorrow and see if it made a difference. Regardless I should probably get new lower IC piping as they don't look that great.

Once I had the bumper back on I changed the battery to a new Century NS70L. Managed to install it into the Zed, but only to find out it needs terminal clamps! The old miniature (320CCA) battery just had the main cables bolted to the terminals. I considered drilling holes on the new battery terminals but common sense prevailed and I will just go and buy some terminal clamps tomorrow.

In the meantime I'd also picked up the little olive I needed for the boost gauge. The gauge is probably sick of reading "0" allllll the time by now. I had NO idea what this little olive was for... after a lot of muttering and complaining to myself I looked at the design of it, and figured maybe it will clamp the hose if I tighten it enough. Tried finger tightening it several times but the hose just kept falling out. Fed up I grapped a couple of adjustable wrenches and went to town on the little connection - it worked, and now I know how it works :D

I couldn't wait until tomorrow to test out the gauge, and I really couldn't be bothered taking out the new battery and putting the old one in again. Instead I found some spare 60A wire and cut it into 4. I spliced 2 segments to +ve and 2 to -ve and prayed the wires could handle the starting current without melting.

    ...

    ...

OK well it worked :) and so does the gauge, at least in vacuum - I don't want to wake the neighbourhood at midnight revving the car. I'll complete the checking tomorrow.

This has been another N00B (R) Adventure brought to you by Kiz! @!@

Heh heh sweet ass there :)

Well the new battery is all in and pre-wired the main power cable for the amps. Going to Redcliffe now for testing :D

Didn't end up going to Redcliffe as I went thr wrong way :p Instead I just went to the boat ramp in Fig Tree Pocket with Teegan and Jazz so we could take Jazz for a walk.

Anyway, the boost gauge is great - dead accurate but responds much quicker that the stock gauge. One problem though: I'm only getting 7 PSI. I've checked the ECU countless times, before driving, during, after, even when the water temp was hitting 100 from sitting in the stupid KFC drive-through for 15 minutes... no ECU errors!

I don't believe it's a leak as the turbo spooling is much quieter since I tightened the IC hoses, and the gauge reads dead-on 7 PSI, no less, no more at WOT around 6000RPM.

I'll do some research into possible causes and see how I go.

    Tata for now :D

PS. This is turning into the Kiz blog...

After some research I've concluded the safety boost is due to either actual detonation or something to do with the boost solenoids (they've been bypassed).

Asides from that, I got bored this afternoon. Not enough new posts on here to read! I decided to install one of my amplifiers in the boot. It seemed easier if I just pulled the back seat and trim out:

    I also found a 10yen coin under the carpet :) :
    [IMG][IMG]

Hey, it's better than finding an ancient lipstick, used condom and wrapper and other nasties like I did in my old R30 Skyline...

I ran the power and trigger cables down the passenger side and 2 RCA pairs with return speaker cables down the drivers side. Since all the cabling came straight out of the Yaris it figures it would fall a little short :p The battery cable was the perfect length but one RCA pair and both speaker cable pairs would only reach as far front as the drivers seat :(

Anyway I was able to reinstall the rear seat and trim without issue and left the front apart until I can buy some more cable.

I've seen some members with custom fascias for their touchscreens in place of the headunit. I need one of these made up for my 7" frame. Does anyone have any suggestions as the best way to do this, or are they willing to do it for me? Bear in mind, once again, I have no experience with plastic moulding/bogging/finishing or fiberglassing....

The saga continued tonight by finishing the wiring for the amp. It seems though that only 1 speaker on the whole car works. The drivers front one :p The install is done correctly and I can confirm all the channels are working but only 1 speaker works :( it was like this before I added my wiring shamozzle too. I guess I'll have to pull the passenger door trim off and see why it's not working. I tried using a 9V battery to check for a connection and there was nothing on all 3 non-working speakers - this is just testing the wires at the head unit, not the speaker itself. The passenger window switch no longer works as of Saturday so I need to check it out too...

Other than that, the sound from the 1 speaker is much clearer with the amp and I added the 2 subs from the Yaris for funsies in the meantime.

Well my Zed has thrown a few surprises at me tonight, and shown what a fool I am at the same time.

First surprise came when I looked under the rear speaker grilles to find out why the rear speakers weren't working:

So it had a BOSE system.... I guess that's why the rear speakers aren't working - they're not hooked up, or blown, and the paper cones are looking worse for wear....

I finished installing the amp and subs and decided to investigate why the left front speaker and window weren't working. I couldn't get the window down to remove the trim so I went exploravigating around and found the 2 plugs in the passenger's left foot kick panel had been left disconnected from when I pre-wired the amp battery cable.

Finally got the window down and the door trim off to find the next surprise:

I guess I don't need to upgrade the front speakers now :)

The final surprise, albeit an expected one, was that my custom box was just too big for the Zed's hatch... :p
    [IMG][IMG]

I guess I'll put it back in the Yaris some day. It was a weekend project that turned out quite well I thought. The covering material (Cashmere) was the most expensive bit :p It's just 2 Jaycar 12" drivers in parallel to make a 4ohm load.

Well at least everything's back together for now.
