it would be safe enough to put a Pin Punch in the sump plug hole and give it a tap with the hammer though I'm not sure how much more depth that will get you before the baffle breaks its spot welds.
With the sump off, you could probably get in there with a nibbler Be no problem cleaning up after, but how would that modify the function of that plate... any one know why it's there?, what it does, etc?
as the crank spins it generates a lot of wind in the sump and the windage tray stops the wind foaming up the oil. Foamy oil can't be sucked up by the oil pump very well.
catches oil flying off the crank so it doesn't keep spashing around and can get back to the pump pickup
good one beaver .. well done ... not too impressed with jj selling something that they should have known did not meet the purpose .... thank god, i had not tried to install it .. probably would have stuffed up the sump and the plug ...!!! black baz: query-is the following about a woman or a zed? no matter how good she looks, some other guy is sick and tired of putting up with her shit ...!!
Tom, if chewy means Maxspeed Motorsports - link is inside ... Maxspeed Motorsport magnetic sump plug Note his comment: *IMPORTANT* If I have advertised for your car these plugs will fit. This auction listed 300ZX in the title. I can recommend their service - I bought a set of their alloy lug nuts nearly 2 years ago - great item and quick service. Cheers, RZM.
yep Mikey that's the one - buggered if I could find it. I also bought the wheel lug nuts and valve stem covers from him. The sump plug sent to me was wrong so I emailed him and he promptly sent me the right one and told me I could have the other one for the mix up. Very good business to deal with.
The shorter of the two illustrated looks very much like Just Japs plug Unless the 300ZX plug is not illustrated, I would have my doubts as to whether that one is any better.
that's poor spelling from you Paul I suppose the pistons would create some wind but the overall displacment of all 6 pistons at any point in time doesn't change. I thought one of the main purposes of the windage tray was to stop oil sloshing up and hitting the crank causing a slight loss of power and also foaming of the oil. Also stops oil sloshing around and uncovering the oil pickup.
