Just finished an engine oil change and finally got a chance to put in the sump plug I purchased from justjap a couple of months ago. However, when I tried to put it in it will only turn around 4 times and then binds up, like it is pushing against something inside the pan. I pushed a small screwdriver inside the drain hole and it is definitely fouling on something, maybe a baffle? Has anyone else had this problem?

    The only thing it could

come into contact with, would be the oil strainer, have you compaired the two side by side, mine seems to be nearly the same, maby 2mm longer.

exactly the same problem with mine, and I know why...

I tried to fit mine as well and had the same prob. It wouldnt screw in. It seemed like there was an obstacle behind it. Well, I was fortunate enough to have another sump handy (my one on the car has a dent, will get around to replacing it one day) that I could actually see the insides of. And yes, there is a piece of metal, looks like a bracket or something which sits behind the hole for the sump plug. The stock plug is fine cos its short and will fit no probs, but the longer magnetic plug just wont fit. I was going to raise this with JustJap, but since it only cost me $18, I gave it to a Skyline buddy of mine.

Infact, this arvo I will take some pics and email them to just jap and show them the prob.

    Cheers

Oh dear! Looks like $18 down the tubes

Not a great amount in the Zed world, but...

Possible use for JJ Magnetic Sump Plug: buy a cheap socket, superglue the plug into it and use it on the end of an extension shaft to pick up those items dropped into the Zed engine bay.

not a bad idea, its a bloody strong magnet....

even trying to get into the sump hole was difficult cos it kept sticking to the outside as soon as I bought it amywhere near the sump..:)

and here is the problem (with pics)

The sump plug wont fully screw in...

and when you look inside the sump its because there is a metal bracket or something directly above the hole for the sump plug, which inhibits the longer magnetic sump plug to screw in (in the red box).

I am going to email these pics to JustJap

    Take them back

And get your money back, as their not fit for purpose.
Just Jap is a reputable company and need to know they don't fit so as not to put any more out there till they rectify it.

    I have mailed JJ asking

him to reply, directly to members who brought the non fitting plugs, on this forum. hopefully we may all
get our money back, $18 for a usless untested plug is way to much.

did it come with an alloy crush washer? Also you could cut the magnetic

stem down so it does fit inside. I bought one from MaxMotorsports on ebay and it fits perfectly.

Yeah I don't think $18 is worth my time plus postage to send it back.

I will go on Chewy's line of thought and cut down the magnetic long proby thingamjig.

    my rough measurements....

told me that for the magnetic plug to fit properly and securely, all of the magnet (or nearly all of it) would have to be removed which defeats the purpose. Also, a crush washer was provided, but its not big enough to make up for the huge difference.

What sits the other side of that baffle?

Would it be feasible to drill a hole through it to allow the sump plug to fit?

    hard to say doug....

the piece of metal doesnt look all that important but I would be uncomfortable drilling a hole in their and having loose bits of metal floating around in the sump. I'll investigate whether its feasible to modify the spare one I have, but its hard to get down there were the sump opening is. To be honest, I'm not to fussed about it.

    Cheers
