ive gone the other way, my first zed was a TT and i later purchased a second zed, a NA this time.

love driving both, and while the NA is by no means quick, it has enough to entertain me on cruises and so on so im content.

Both cars are projects, and i intend on pushing both TT and NA tp produce more power and torque in the future, with both retaining the original engine configurations

I have been a NA zed owner for 4 years after coming from owning turbo's all my life, and been very happy.

vg30de made 125kw at rears with pod and cat back while missing and running fairly poorly when I first got her.

    27 with full licence.

a well running NA with smart mod's is more then capable of surprising many cars. (not that I really care too much about trying to race other cars on the road!! got past that a few years ago)

also when lightened, very fun to drive on the road.

** and note that she is not far off my previous car which had almost twice the power and weighed less.

I bet the N/A goes hard out! she looks sporty fit and light =]

upgraded laggy turbo girl, while she may look like fun at first, I bet she gets tired easy, and you will eventually feel all that weight pounding down on you!! and she will run out of puff and get a sore back fairly quickly!

But yes, I definitely choose to keep the NA, plenty of low down torque, not too short on power, shorter diff ratio, no hicas, very fun and fairly predictable on the road.
Do ponder about some snails some times, but I like having fun messing about with the NA and seeing what it can so, it is actually a very surprising engine!

And I love the way the z32 chassis feels once you start getting the weight down!

Going from the heaviest spec to a lightened NA is like chalk and cheese, and good for completely different things, but then again, it depends what your interest's are, and also your driving style to what you may prefer. But at the end of the day, If you enjoy driving your NA it is definitely not a waist of money to mod her, because later on if you get bored and decide you want to keep your chassis then most things can be transferred onto a TT any way's

I bet a standard VL six would eat a N/a 300zx around say wakefield so I cant see the point in spending money and flogging a dead horse just get a TT

Are you telling me that if someone offered you a Veyron with a golf GTI engine inside it for 7,000 you'd reject it? It'd be like a car version of Quasimodo, so retarded that it's awesome.

Besides, the NA has its place. It's a fantastic cruising vehicle/daily driver. It's still got the targas, it's lower maintenance, it has a nice growl (particularly with a good set of headers), it has the same beautiful profile and perfect seating position.

Also if you're actually comparing it to cars of similar ilk (naturally aspirated 6s) rather than it's forced induction monster of a cousin, it really doesn't stack up too badly. With a few modifications it's actually competitive with some of the hotter NA 6s some 20 years after it's initial release. That much is a testament to nissan's engineering.

Granted, it will never be a decent track car, but the low down grunt is extremely satisfying to exercise.

It also gave you TT guys better gearing ratios to whack into your cars, and an NA with the stock TT setup simply stuck on it at low boost is one hell of a sprinter with the higher compression, if also a potentially short-lived one.

I presently have the cash for a TT, but I'm sticking with my NA. That being said, I've got some extremely bizarre and potentially expensive ideas bouncing around in my head as to what to do to it... performance won't be optimal, but the "WTF???" value could be overwhelming...

VL's are the most gutless cars you could ever imagine in NA form, my NA could beat one in reverse.

Markup is the same on a lot of things that get imported here. Along with cars, computer tech is also something that somehow gets bumped up outrageously. I remember seeing a laptop for $1600 in the US, being sold by harvey norman here in Oz for $2500! with lower spec hardware too. It can't be the low demand, or the shipping costs. it's got to be corporate F-YOU tax...or govt tax >.<

TBH, I sometimes have nightmares of my manual JSPEC TT turning into an ADM 2+2 NA Auto :( well...at least i'd get a big numberplate space

2.5 years to do the V8 conversion thank you :p I do like the TT though, very laggy with how the power comes in compared to the V8, but hugely good fun when it does.

NA's have their place as do TT's. More about the driver than the car. Just look at Aza on the racetrack, humiliated a couple of TT's out there :p

Driving an NA is like is like riding Nigela Lawson. Looks and feels good until you want it to go faster, then it can't quite keep up. :p

Hmm well would hate to be the one to prove you wrong, and as much as i love the Z being a TT owner my missus has a 91 r31 skyline RB30 N/A same motor as a VL with only cold air induction ,2 1/2 inch custom exhaust, extractors advanced timing and it's an auto, well i went for a drive in town thursday night and i pull up next to a bright blue 5 speed n/a Z with veilside kit and pretty much same mods zaust and pod, we had 3 runs the first off the lights got almost a car length on him by about 80-100kph, 2nd run rolling start from about 40-50kph got him again then 3rd time same result from 80kph rolling start, so in saying this don't ever underestimate the power and torque in a RB30 N/A i surprise many with the missus car lol.;)

Sounds like that Z was a nugget and most are, probably couldn't drive either. You're free to run the car at the drags and compare the time to mine, guarantee you won't come within half a second of it (most worked NA VL's at WSID ran 16's). My mates VL has a full exhaust, cam, intake & a chip, i can leave him 4-5 cars behind without too much trouble.

    I'm with SRB-2NV on the VL's

They are rubbish without a turbo. My VN has on many occasions (when I was young and stupid) spanked VL's. and the VN is not quick. It in fact is a turd.

well to be fair here the r31 is lighter then a VL but it's a bloody quick car for a n/a her car launches pretty hard from the word go, as i said i surprise many in it silvias, falcons, commonwhores not 8's and not turbos but pretty much any other 6 i come up against with just minor mods it eats.

how can you say a 3.0 litre nissan motor is rubbish lol not even close they are a great inline six and no comparison to a VN they should have stayed in nissans forget sticking it in a holden :p

A lot of P plate legal cars are slow as anything. The only NA(less then 8 cyl) cars that have pulled away from me were a 350Z and a EG Civic with a B18C7 Motor(off a rolling start too). I've had many cars from BA/BF XR6's, VZ Storm utes, SIDI SV6 commodores to the usual SSS/Honda/little buzzbox/NA Supra's and have never been given any trouble apart from 1 or 2 cars that stayed with me. The problem is, a lot of P platers will get a manual car and won't be able to drive for the life of them...from crap launches to slow gear changes it all adds up and since your R31 is auto its not suprising if you came up against a crap driver(or a thrashed out car, i've been in some NA zeds that have been shockingly slow:eek:).

The offer is always there to run the car at the drags and to show me up, hell if you run a quicker time then me i'll cover the cost of entry :)

PS: Not starting a fight, a friendly wager is all :p

haha yeah I'm certainly not arguing that he could have been a shit driver and it could have been a thrashed out car, and i too have owned many different kinds of cars turbo's, 8's and such but to say that strong RB30 is rubbish I can't agree there, as for running down the 1/4 with you I would love to seeing as you have posted your times I'm pretty confident that you would take the win light but i don't think her car would be far off you, i think from past experience that her car would run high 15's on a good pass or there abouts.
