So if I take the drivers side off the box and pull off the pipes in the bay. The core will just slide out?
Yes , you need to unscrew the pipes off the core itself . Then will slide out . Thats the PITA part of doing it that way
1: By unscrewing the single bolt I already advised you about, 2: By removing the black cover(and computer controller)that has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, 3: By undoing ALL 4 screws on EACH Heater Pipe flange(where they attach to the end of the Core). Have you looked at the Heater Core Replacement Tech article in the Tech Section of this forum?
Short story. When I was buying my car (2001) I noticed something had been leaking into the p/s, there was a stain on the carpet. I asked the owner what it was, and he told me the heater core had leaked, he had it replaced with a new one. Odd thing is, he said, the old core and associated parts seemed fine. Anyway last summer 2011, my work car (ba ford) started leaking coolant into both the p/s and d/s foot wells. I went straight over to the ford forum to see what was involved in replacing it. I found a post their by a member who said that the heater core was usually not the problem, and that 99% of the time the issue could be cleared by simply pocking a length of stiffish plastic hose up into the drain pipe as far as it would go, so I did it, and its never leaked since. Its easy and worth a try before the ripping the dash out.
You don't get coolant leaking out of the drain pipe(that removes condensation from the A/C)and is another issue entirely. "Green liquid" is either coolant(or the old, missing bottle of Creme De Menthe)that you couldn't find(after the Office Party).
can you remind me where this bolt is and if theres a good thread in the tech section can you give me a link to that? im so over it at the moment i just want to get it done
Yes its odd, but that's what's happened, and it was green coolant afaik, not c d m. It wasn't leaking out of the drain pipe at all, there was nothing under the car, it was pissing into both foot wells as soon as the heater/demister was turned on, and was still leaking right up until when I porked the drain. Whatever the problem was, it stopped at the same time of the porking, coincidence, a miracle, I dont know, all I know is it's stopped, and saved me pulling the dash out, which btw is far more involved than a pulling the dash on a zed.
Condensation may have been pooling up inside the AC box if the drain tube was blocked . Prob rusting away and overflowing in the cabin side of the AC . The green may have been mold growing inside AC due to being wet . Just a theory . Legionaires disease ?
