Chrispy, i've even tried venting the actuators to atmosphere by disconnecting them completely from the EBC. it IS the actuators. Some thing that i've found during my research is that you can't accurately bench test wastegate actuator pressure by just running pressure through the actuator line from a compressor, and mainly because that's not where the pressure comes from to open the gates themselves, it comes from the exaust gas pressure going into the exhaust housing which doesn't have an exact mathmatical equasion you can apply to compensate for actuator pressure to test them with.

But from Karls experience, to have his wastegates opening at ~12psi on the car, he needed to adjust the actuator rods so they were opening at 18psi on the bench via air compressor. which makes sense because on the bench there's no exhaust gas pressure trying to open the gates, only the compressor pressure in the actuator line putting pressure on the springs.

So end of the day, it is the actuator settings. I've excluded any other issues that could cause it. So i'll post up results when sorted :)

Yes mikey you are perfectly correct! and yes, i do know how to correctly plumb up an EBC :)

Ahhhh, that makes sense. Have fun, I hope you have your 6 knuckled fingers on for adjusting them

Yep! front up on ramps, dumps off, 13mm spanner, loooong needle nose pliers, a packet full of spare sur-clips and plenty of swearing should see it it happen this weekend buddy

Come to Cara's parents and use the pit :D no laying down required!

Have printed out the install instructions. Will double check it all for you Ben.
A second set of eyes can often do wonders :)

This is pretty strange. I had 1kg spring in the actuators pre-loaded at about 3mms, mine was running at 12psi after installation and with Zshop's wash jets they are holding 18psi all the way to red line. it should do exactly the same unless there are exhaust restrictions. Not making much sense at this stage but see how it goes.

Certainly no restrictions in Ben's exhaust :)

Agreed, exhaust is a more likely culprit. The Npower dumps will struggle with that ammount of air running through them. Even though you are only at 15psi, there is alot more arflow for the same pressure with the new turbos. What intercoolers are you using benny?

    Trust SMIC's. 100mm thick big fellas :)

Eric, is there a way of testing or telling if the dumps are a restriction?
i'm guessing the only real way would be to swap with something else and trial?

Don't forget that you were spiking/peaking to 17psi - the boost controller told us that :)

Dam forgot about the bok choi dumps.

I believe that Hypergear is using the same dumps on his Zed and is achieving higher boost. Maybe he can correct me if i got that wrong though...

Actually not really. I was looking at the Npower Dumps and didn't like its design.

So I ended up removing the center divider piece and grinded the area between 2x pipes to " ^ " shape. So I guess that would make it a 3inch single pulse dump.

ahh ok, well that adds new light on things then. I'll have a play around with things on the weekend and see what i can come up with.

I might also try unbolting rest of the exhaust from the dumps aswell just to eliminate the chance of any restriction in the rest of the system.

I think i'll also make a thread in Zed Tech, asking if people have actually run big boost and big KW's out of these Npower dumps to help confirm if they can actually handle it.

I'd rather get this answered as best as possible before i have to resort to stuffing around under the car adjusting actuators.

  16. I have just got mine dynotuned with the nistune ecu and it pulled about a 263rwkw at about 16.5psi on 95ron and about 625Nm torque. I couldnt get any more boost out of it with the controller.

This morning I disconnected the boost controller and boost lines to the actuators and got 18.7psi max out of them. I have a feeling that the exhaust is pushing the wastegates open a little. I too have about 2-3mm of pull on the actuators. I am going to try tighten them up a bit this weekend and see how it affects boost.

I also have Npower dumps so maybe they are the problem. I have been looking into making a set of 3 inchers but am having trouble finding 4 bolt flanges.

    Cheers

    Ahhh!!! Thanks Jason!
Well i think we may be finding a common issue then - Npower dumps!

  18. Anyone know where I can get some 4 bolt flanges?

Any decent exhaust shop should be able to get them or make them.

Hi Jason. Great to see your results but how come your car was tuned with 95 fuel. its a big difference in power running 95 and 98 fuel. Try BP ultimate or Mobile 8000 with abit more boost and timing, probably be seeing another 20~30kws.
