Have 2 Zeds, therefore definitely a tragic. My Ausspec, owned ~6 years: When I bought it I knew nothing about the tech side of 300ZXs, but always loved the LOOK. Loved them from 1990 when they were first released. Thought they had a most "natural" sports car look. Decided that's what I wanted. Bought my first one when prices were still realistic (high). Bought a VERY GOOD Australian model. I drive it every day. It's very special. My Godfather, owned 3 years. I attended 1st National 300ZX National convention, Gilgandra, Easter 2004. Met in person the ppl I'd talked to on the forum. Most had TTs. All were great people with a fundamental interest in 300ZXs. Decided to buy a TT as an indulgence. Bought it in Japan, enjoyed the journey of shipping, compliancing and registering it in Australia. Mechanically in very good condition, bodykit professionally fitted. Lovely custom interior. Glad I can enjoy it. Still enjoying the journey. Plusses - Love the look, love the targas, love the level of engineering (see minuses) Minuses - lack of working space, complexity (over engineered) and cost of parts. I no longer have any other cars.:zlove: So, am I in for the long haul? Cheers, Peter
i agree except for the part about ferraris. They are more expensive for whole diferent reasons, not coz owners price fix. yaaar
Bought my z in 2001.Will never sell it. I have a bad habit of buying cars and never selling them. Purchased a GT in 87, Still have it. Purchased a Fairmont Ghia in 95, Still have it. + the 300 which now has the Rb26.
I'm keeping mine till the day I die, then I'm getting buried in it(that should make me extremely popular with the grave diggers). I already made a bad choice when I sold my 1976 260Z 2+2 24yrs ago(I've regretted it ever since, hence the Z32). IT AIN'T HAPPENING AGAIN!
nicely said ... and..personally.. i just dont think i can see a point in selling something that makes me happy especially once ive possibly put more money into the car then i paid for it LOL.. So.. there is a danger period of about 6 months.. after that.. im in for the long haul (unless fire, act of god, or act of mrs interviens)
I'm keeping mine I've owned her for 2 1/2 years now, and in that time I've been almost at the point of having to sell for financial reasons. I couldn't do it.:zlove: Through this forum, I've learned how to maintain and repair her, and although I know that I still have a long way to go (and a lot of money) to get her right, unless the unthinkable happens and she gets written off, she is with me for life. She's my daily, and when I get in to her in the morning and turn the key, I fall in love all over again. A Zed isn't just a car, it becomes a part of your life. Talk to owners of older cars of other makes and they'll tell you the same. Sentimental old fart? Yep, that's me.
That's the way my 86yo Mum gets in and out. Once she's there, she reckons it's the most comfortable car she's ever ridden in (but, that's the sort of thing Mums say anyway, isn't it?) Sorry, ETAF, there's no such animal! On the other hand, a couple of snails can be expensive pets, can eat you out of house and home! I don't feel quite as extreme as you do Lloyd, but while I can still get in and out without too much trouble, she stays! But when you are older, been there, done that, and can buy a car that you REALLY want, not just transport for the family, the Zed fits the bill admirably! I'm an enthusiast, and I don't understand, either! Obviously, if I finished up in a wheelchair tomorrow, the Zed would have to go, but only because the wheelchair wouldn't fit! I wouldn't know about that... I keep both hands on the wheel! Likewise! Dredz is the oldest car I've ever owned, and except for the last couple of weeks, I've still spent more than it's worth just on routine maintenance KEEPER!
Long term Just remember all that a car is to serve you not serve it, depending how you look at it, its not an investment finnacially(maybe one day), however a passion to own and considering the age of the car is still an impressive work of engineering design even still to todays modern standards. A large portion of us spend money on our passionate vehicles hopfully wisely and some sells for their own personal reasons. For someone like myself that rarely drives this beautiful vehicle I know that its mine. Long Haul, Long Passion
It's all about the cost versus pleasure factor for me Yes, my recently purchased TT has cost me close to $3000 on top of what I paid to get and that was only to just get it past the Tassie Vehicle inspection. Yes, I'm sure it will cost me much more than that to get it the way I want it....as a nice fast, classy cruiser that will not embarrass me at local club events and a sweet as ride that my son will hopefully learn to drive in one day. Yes, it?s depreciating in value faster than some other fast rides. Yet that all pails into insignificance when I hop into it, fire it up and drive it, when I see it parked in the drive, when I sit nestled in the coolest driving cockpit this side of a 928 (Which just happens to have the same driving cockpit) The most important thing here for me is that my 300ZX is an investment in adding to my quality of life, my pleasure from driving, working on it and that ?s pleasure I?m willing to pay for. Cheers all Pete
ive voted now i love the zed and can COMPLETLEY understand people spending more than its worth IF you start with a clean example I have no problem at all in expecting high maintence bills OR lets of DIY greese money time... IF you start with a clean example if you DONT start with a clean example, unless it was a bargin and you intended to have it as a project......... if you DONT start with a clean example, and hence dont feel the love... then I think you need to make a choice I am currently on the RIGHT side of the money pit. I am standing on the edge looking down and to me, me and THIS particular Z32 have never gelled. For me, THIS particular Z32 is not worth it Im out. Zed will be up for sale shortly
