    mrkarter77 No Really, They do!!!

obviously not a true zedder, and yes i can say that, because as you said, this is open speech,

when i was about 10 dad started looking around for a project car, and after a few years looking at different cars, we came across a Z31, i knew then and there that i wanted one.... and after about 2 years, we found one, and started work, over about 6 months did a engine pull, rebuild, respray teh engine bay, and did bits here and there, and then dad got busy and she rusted away, then at the xmas holidays, me and a few mates decided to start playing with it, and started putting it back together, and decided it was too far gone, so i looked at money i had, and how much i could make, saved a bit, dad threw me a bit, and i bought my z32.....

always wanted one, now i got one, sure if someone was going to give me a new porshe 911 or lambo gallado... i would keep it, and it would be parked beside the zed.....

cut the guy some slack, I can see where he's coming from.

if you've owned not 1 but 2 crap ones then quite frankly I'd probably do the same if I were in his shoes. I'm not exactly the most patient person either, if I had a lemon zed that failed big time, instead of burning all my $ on fixing crap, I would cut my losses and move on.

:zlove: thank god my zed has been as kind to me as I've been to her so there's never been need for such dirty words like 'sell' or 'move on'

    I'll be buried with my

Blue Beast. No matter what other vehicles i'll ever own during my life, my Zed will always have a spot in my garage for ever - no matter what the cost.

.... see this is why i can't hold a girlfriend, "apparently" my priorities are Zed=1st, everything else=a distant second.

yeah i think the essence has been captured here

i should have added an "unsure" option in the poll though

for me, if i hadn't expereinced a good zed first hand by borrowing midnites on occasion, and the zed i have now was my ONLY sampling of Zedness, I'd have jumped ship

But because I know what they CAN be, i just have to keep reminding myself "its a long term project" and "1 step at a time"

i think i was very lucky with the 180sx i had, as in, with all the hords of drift spec, abused POS out there, I had a nice clean 20 year old car

And i guess thats what we fast food generation come to expect.
Buy something and have it a working perfectly as we want it and have all that NOW

as opposed to working TOWARDS a goal we want perfection NOW.

what ive come to realise is, apart from the lucky few, or very very patient buyers, that DOESNT happen with 20 year old cars.

You buy and THEN make it what you want it to be. And that is a long and expensive process.

Do i still think of selling?

yes..... but only because I know one day, midnite will sell his, and I want it :D

i do see that point, however, this guy is constantly bagging zeds in this thread, and making references that to me imply that he is saying all zeds are lemons and crap....

i dont agree with the generalisation

    but answer this.......

with the few good ones on this forum, how many more molested, or simply aging non forum zeds are lurking out there than good ones?

Like any car, MOST will have a poor maintence history and have 1 foot in the grave.

thats the facts when you choose old sports cars as your hobby/mode of transport

    no getting away from it.

This doesn't sinlge out Zeds of course, but all cars in the genre

Old family cars/hatches can be more forgiving though depending on what it is.

Exactly my point, and most modern cars will face the same problems as the zeds in due time, the fact of the matter is, the zed is one of the first fully computer controlled cars ie air flow, fuel ratios, timing, etc etc.... (note i said one of the first, not the first), whereas you still have the old school pushrod engines with injectors in the older crapadores, that the computer is basically there to say ok, spark now, fuel now, for the set values.....

Correct me if i am wrong here...

true this. as an older ambassador for the "want it now" generation, I would like to add that the zed is the first thing that has required me to not have it all now. I am a perfectionist and I just cant afford to make it perfect straight away. Although Im giving it my best shot, the zed has taught me the virtue of patience. and a virtue that is. On the contrary to some opinions in this thread, I think that the zed has the potential to not only teach patience but also self esteem (you have to have that to drive around in a crapbox camry while your beast sits in the shed with a busted cvaihsbfgabvfiuskj switch) hard work (obviously) love (when something breaks this much and you have to fix it this much, well thats similar to love eh) tolerance (getting excited about a drive only to find that your injector connector has just come loose and broken) perseverance (when it takes 7 hours to remove one bolt because you have to tie a spanner to a piece of wire and then slowly work your arm into a tiny crevace, hook on to the bolt and get out 1/8th of a turn before dropping the spanner and starting all over again) Letting go of issues and baggage (so many issues, so much baggage, throw it all in the bin and they work much better.)

my point is (although ever so slightly contrived) that a zed is able to be a part of your life even if you only own it for a little while as long as you choose to embrace those valuable life lessons you learn along the way.

so even when I sell it, there will always be a part of it left behind.....zed for life for sure.

    LOL:):):):):):):):)

ironically thats why sometimes i think id prefer a 240 or 260. Simpler cars
(apart from the awsome looks of course)

but then you have the rust problems and all the problems that go with an even OLDER car than the Z32 lol

    There's your answer :D

And Graham, a 350Z... PLEASE, I'm disappointed in you (even though you are a dirty man).

My next realistic car will be a R35 GTR... But that won't happen before I find a rich b!tch, or before I'm 50

Someone else to shamelessly advertise to :D:eek: everything wallet unfreindly is already done ;).

back on topic. whilst i LOVE my zed, im throwing in the towel while i still can. I have come to the relisation that awesome as it is, the cost of owning it starts to become unjustified (well at least for me) and being constantly ripped off (or outright refused) any work by mechanics, parts costing twice as much as other cars. im trading up to an s15, newer, faster, cheaper to run and better handling. it can never have the sex appeal of a zed, and the wow factor of non-car people, the targas off thrill of wind in your hair twisties, sigh, now i want to keep it :zlove:
