Yep just waiting on the xpipe. Slight smoke at idle after a hard cruise before the pull, now I'd get done for a smoky vehicle :p

I'm just exploring alternative solultions should all else fail.

Just get one done at a local muffler place, cheap as chips

How about an engine out tech weekend to replace your turbos Kieren? I see a couple of pairs of supposedley good stockies in the for sale section.

    You don't want to sell;)

Trust me, i want to sell it reeeeeeeally bad. But like most 300ZXs, you'll never receive anywhere near the amount of time and money that's been invested in it. It would be a very very stupid decision on my part to let it go for anything less than $22000 and no one on their right mind would pay that. So, it's not going... I just wish it was.

If the centre muffler does not fix the problem, Eric will remove and reco the turbo for a good price. After my plenum pull, I'm just not up for doing that again, even with help.

I just want to enjoy my car. Obviously that's too much to ask :(

Hang in there. It will be worth it:)

Well I'll update my progress, for my own future reading if nothing else...

Turbo seals were blown, most likely due to backfiring as a result of leaning out after the plenum pull. I can't remember why it was leaning out, Eric might remember since he was the master of repairing my abortion of a job. OK it wasn't that bad...

New turbo seals, steering rack bushes, heater hoses were all done at the same time, as well as EGR removal and fixing the leaking exhaust cam covers.

It also turns out my cam gears were pissing oil which was the main reason for the oil all over the back and bottom of the engine.

Everything has now been fixed (all credit goes to drz400y) and so far no oil leaks, or any leaks whatsoever of any fluids, and no smoke :D

I've installed a twin loop 4.5dBi glass-mounted UHF antenna on my quarter window so there's no ugly antenna sticking out my front bar anymore. Reception is the same, if not marginally better than the rubber ducky.

Today I had my Magnaflow X-pipe installed and the difference is amazing. With my a/m mufflers and stock resonators the drone was horrible, although quite reduced after my sound-proofing rampage. Now there is no drone, the exhaust is significantly subdued and my head feels a whole lot better now :D Installation cost me $124.80 including flanges and gaskets to suit my current exhaust.

    [rant]
I will be looking for a new exhaust shop though. I have used Pipewerx at Macgregor 5 times now and only ONCE, on the first occasion when they put a muffler on the Yaris, did they ever call me to say it was ready. The last 4 times I have had to call up because it is nearly closing time, or walk over there since they're across the road from work, to see if it is ready. The same was true today when I rang up at 4pm to check and Will, the director, says it's ready. How long has it been ready for? Oh since lunch time, I've been busy with other bits and pieces. OK, you've been too busy on 4 occasions to make a 30 second phone call to let me know my car is ready??!?!?!?! That's pretty poor service. Not to mention the fact they were very skeptical of even being able to fit the X-pipe on the 300ZX and even if they did they believed it would make no difference, or even make it worse. I will definitely be looking elsewhere when I get my new mufflers and dumps and test pipes done in the future.
    [/rant]... :p

I now have a 25-row oil cooler and filter relocation kit from Spandex to fit as well as an upper radiator fan shroud as mine is cracked and is held up by a series of keyrings so as not to get sucked into the fan :S I think I'll be getting Eric to do that somehow... I'm over the whole Zed disassembly idea at the moment.

Anyway, pics of the UHF antenna:

Blurry cam strikes again! Well it is rather hard to get a clear photo with a cheap camera at night...

Hehe thanks for the kind words guys :)

Took it for its first drive since I put everything in tonight and it looks really cool. Not too distracting (for me anyway) but totally awesome!

love reading your updates mate. can completely understand your frustrations with the car but I think with the amount of things you have fixed already there cant be much more to go wrong! the first time you drive it when everything works as intended will be worth all the pain.

Since getting the turbos rebuilt and leaking injector seal fixed, there haven't been any breakdowns :D Still things I'd like to get done to get it back to its former glory (glares at suspension and subframe bushes) but I'm very happy with it at the moment.

I'll help you do the suspension, but you are on your own with the subframe bushes :p

I'll supervise ;) Could you tell me exactly what I need to buy for the suspension bushes? Looking for a replacment for stock, nothing too uncomfy :p

I don't know if you can buy stock bushes

I have the Energy Suspension bushes from Coz, pretty cheap for hte lot. I still have a heap of spares actually as I have lots of aftermarket arms. I'll go through them and let you know what I have left.

So, a mini update on issues that need fixing:
New radiator required - the 'unidentified coolant leak' is coming from the top rad hose, specifically the plastic end tank where the hose attaches (must be cracked, again...)
Left front tyre has bad wear on the inner edge :(
Torque convertor is slipping when cold, for the first 3-5 minutes in the morning.

    Things that have been done:
Oil cooler with thermostatic sandwich plate
    Brand new TT fuel pump
Nismo FPR (yet to be fitted)
    Japtek SMICs
Tonight I fixed my Profec B Spec II after over a year since buying it. Turns out that although the wires to the solenoid looked intact the positive wire had somehow become severed. After jerry rigging it up on the floor with a spare batt and compressor and a long time probing with a multi I figured the issue and OMG I now have a working EBC! :D I'll install it at some stage soon when I have a new rad ready to go and I can get most things done at once.

In the meantime I'll just have fun on my new bike!

    Good news everybody!!!

The rad is fine, it was the top rad hose that has split where the hose clamp goes. Easy fix, once I get a new one :)

Also installed the solenoid for the Profec B, just need to plug in the control unit in the cabin and install the FPR.

Bushings are by far the best upgrade. :D
