How about PCV and IACV vac hoses? and the air reg to balance tube hose ... carbon canister pipe connects to rear of balance tube ... You said that the only thing done since it last started OK was plenum pull. I wouldn't touch CAS / timing. I twill be to do with the plenum pull. How about the wiring loom earth terminals which connect to the two 10mm bolts on upper back plenum? I'd also try another PTU just to be sure.
Yeah that's true Trevy, but the fuel is getting to where it should be, the amount of fuel is in question. Tried cranking with a lil throttle, but not since the last plenum pull
Hey Mark, Yeah plenum pull and gearbox pull is all that's happened since last start so it has to be something to do with these. The earths on the back of the plenum are earthed. It's going to be something small and stupid that has been overlooked I am sure :bash: PTU is a S2 and it is under the nose cone and hasn't been touched since last start if that means anything...
i guess the next step is a compression test. there is a small chance that you have cooked the engine since one of the welsh plugs failed... im not sure if you have a water temp gauge. The welsh plug failure would have basically pumped all the water from the heads in a matter of seconds
Surely not that. It's started fine the 2 times I needed to move it after the plug came out. Started fine to put it on the tilt tray (about 2 hours after the car was stopped) and then started first kick the next day to move it into the garage??? Only failed to start after we pulled the gearbox and pulled the plenum a couple of times
Highly unlikely that it's killed it, it'd be making some awful noises if the compression was low enough to not start or the valvetrain was destroyed. I wouldn't worry about that too much.
As has already been covered, an engine only requires 3 elements to start, air, fuel and spark. If these occur in the correct quantities and time it will start. Obviously one of these is not right. Is it making sufficient spark? bright blue during crank, plugs not fouled. Is it pulling any vacuum at the throttles? no tape over plenum ports. Check the maf signal voltage while cranking with a m/m, if the voltage fluctuates the engine is drawing in air or just put your hand over the t/b while someone cranks it. Is it making the correct fuel pressure? not enough or too much, may have some debris fallen into fuel lines or reg, fuel lines maybe plumbed back to front. Timing wont have changed as nothing was removed to affect this, engine should still fire and start with iacv/aac hoses off, split or whatever. I think you need to take a breather and start again with a clear mind as you keep overlooking the problem, you are right it is something simple.
Good advice Step back for a wile mike if you can, I've just had to pull the plenum on mine after I spotted the fuel hose was slightly depressed between the upper and lower intakes, glad I saw it though! Forgot to resize, soz! The wrong way The right way
Haven't messed around with the alternator harness at all have you? when doing the gear box.... might be getting power but the big fk off power cable not connected and so when you crank it all at once it doenst have enough current... dunno, thinking out loud... no offence but im kinda glad... lol i had so much trouble i didn't want you to just put urs back in and be all good ahahahha yes!!!! im not the only one breaking engines
Am I correct in thinking that zeds can run without the dampener? Just trying to eliminate things... What would possible causes of too much fuel pressure be? It is getting plenty of fuel. It's the spark side of things that is the issue I think It has to be. Fuel is getting there, and air is getting there. Dam yours looks nice Geoff Bastard Screw you Joshy! It did start fine the first time (tho the injectors were spewing fuel everywhere). and then it started fine the next time too (with boost leaks). And it kept on starting fine before and after the plug came out. Only after the gearbox and last plenum pull that it didn't work
Yes it'll run without the damper. Are you using the stock regulator mike? The engine at start up fires all injectors twice per revolution that is enough to kill a weak spark, right away!
Yeah stocko reg Geoff... Going to get some insulartors (so I can put it back 2gether) and a spare S2 ptu from Chrispy this arvie. Will try jumping it once it's back 2gether and I'm putting new copper plugs in it this time too.
Although you have a S2 PTU It's still sounds like something electrical has died to me, be it a coincidence or not. I'd be swaping PTU, CAS and TPS as suggested previously.
sounds good mate, also jumping it from another (running) car will ensure that you have enough battery power and will also rule that out too. Keep us updated tonight on your findings bud, i'll be watching this thread closely tonight. *fingers and toes crossed for ya*
i cant this week anyway... trust me, me bent over in front of you has just reached an all time wrongness with my once beautifully tanned back is now pealing like a mofo.. lol mmm sexy... and ptu wise... OI ya little shit!
