I beleive atm the strap is attached to the plenum and the chassis to make sure there was good earth there :bash: been clutching at straws Hope this is what it is
The ECU needs a good earth on the drive train as you know there are quite a few earths there that go back to the ECU. The body is already earthed near the battery (if you hooked it up). Make sure your battery is fully charged and throw a multimeter on the battery to see the voltage drop under load.
yeah but. if it needs that good of earth then why does mine start. when the earth strap only goes to the firewall and the intake manifold.
Plenum off and bolt the earth cable back on the box Mike, it's the only thing thats out of place. Low spark = no ignition and wet plugs which is whats it's doing. I wasn't 100% sure but the spark did look pretty weak when we tested them.
Earth is now attached to the passenger side head and also the GB Shit I'm tallented Old plugs are soaked again tho - too late to crank it over for a few mins to clear the fuel away... Hopefully that's it
m 'n m ...after this exercise you will be a p/pull specialist ... lol... fingers crossed for tomorrow .... are you on hols at the mo ...???
Unfortunately no baz, today was my first day back :bash: Yeah I'm gettin pretty good at the old plenum pull Tho it is WAY easier after it's been done with the motor out
Any more ideas guys? Cranked it over for about a min with fuel pump relay unplugged this morning. Plugged it back in and still no change. Wasn't sure if 1 min was long enough to clear the cylinders and didn't want to wake anyone up (5:10am in the garage). Will try again this arvie... Anyone got a part number for some copper plugs for the zeds?
Thanks Karl, I'll see if I can get some on the way home today and try them... I'm only guessing I cranked it for a min - obviously not all in one go tho
Only 3 things Will stop an engine from starting, air, fuel, and spark. sounds like it is getting plenty of fuel, check your voltage for spark, and timing. and make sure nothing is blocking the air delivery. Got to be one of those.
Check to see if u fuel return line is ok . Could be blocked or hooked up wrong causing high fuel pressure ,flooding everything. also check if ur fuel dampner and reg are servicable. Trev
Thanks Ron Def getting fuel - possibly too much? Will check reg and dampener as per heavytrev. Def sparking - although as suggested by beaver, we tested spark on the plenum as ground, possible that the block doesn't have a strong enough earth for them to fire when in place??? (even after reconnecting the earth strap???) For the air side of things, we tried starting with the throttle body hoses off to eliminate the intake as a restriction (as suggested by Niall). Will check voltage on battery this arvie. Will try to get some new plugs on the way home to try. Bones is bringing the timing gun around this arvie too to check that. Any other ideas guys? Open to anything however strange it may seem???? :bash:
Sound like you have disturbed the injector seals and now its flooding the cylinders, needs a strip down again if thats the case. Jeff TT
Haven't really done anything with the injectors. I got as far as undoing the lower plenum bolts but that was it. Which seals are you talking about mate? I assume the orings that fit around the injector itself? I can't see how they could've been disturbed but I guess anything is possible... How would this cause flooding tho? I thought the injector shoots out the bottom? Unless the lower seal (below where the injectors pick up is) is leaking and fuel is constantly getting into the chamber??? Something to think about there, but I did get the correct viton orings for the lower slot and the injector guy fitted the injectors into the rail and pressure tested everything and tested the injectors themselves... That is a very interesting point tho mate, I'll have to check them out
I assume so, it hasn't been changed at all since the car was running... Been out and got some new plugs and some new viton lower o-rings for the injectors - just in case I need them.
