Parts, including 02 sensors didnt arrive before replacement motor was installed. Drowned threads with Inox to make installation easier. Must have applied a lil more healthier than required. Since its all burnt out, haven't had a problem. *02 sensors are fluctuating within listed parameters. *Coolant levels have stayed the same since new radiator installed (used 1/3 tank of petrol since running). *Operation temperatures are good- 80degrees through ECUtalk. When satisfied with finish. Will book in with A2Zed for thorough looking over
FINALLY home with a day of sunshine. *Replaced Cruise steering wheel for much better condition one *Sourced OEM battery box and fitted *Replaced carpet. Not the most pleasant of jobs, especially when replacement carpet is from a 2+2. All goes well, working from the front back, until you get to the centre console, then it all turns to s$%t. Leap of faith with a stanley knife and using old carpet as a cutting guide, and it fits remarkably well. Car is booked in for RWC on Monday, and window retint Wednesday. Going for 5% all round again. Then can get to resprayer for a quote. The fatory blue is growing on me...... its the new black Definitely a downhill run from here, and surprised as to how little it can cost to do this amount of work, if done yourself. Little bit more bling, stereo install and A/C regassed and should be smooth sailing from here... fingers crossed :zlove:
my Cookie Monster......its blue and eats a lot of dough........is REGISTERED! Oil Pressure gauge is playing up- Will examine sender unit when weather clears up Temps are a bit high- Spare clutch fan to go on Cannons- far too loud.... and for THAT reason, am changing them out, not because it was pointed out to me that they're "rice" Wheels- better suited to a commodore. Picked up a set of Amistad's 18x10" all round. We've got DISSSSSHHHHHH! Bit of gutter rash, but polisher will sort that out for me. Not complaining for $500 Perfect fit on the front, protruding a touch on the rear. 255x35x18" steering, 265x35x18" pushing. Window tinter booked in for Friday
Glad I went with the 5% and 18% window tint combination......... so nobody can see the dissapointment on my face as to just how lacking an NA auto is. The Postie was already 4 bike lengths ahead of me before we reached 60, and had to run a pensioner on their electric scooter into the curb for fear of never living down the outcome. Was initially concerned about putting 275 Kumho Ecsta's on the rear, at $420 a side, but am confident they will perish before they wear. I now have a new appreciation for those who wish to get better performance from an NA, and those who constantly suggest to upgrade to a TT. ... went to sulk in mine with a rum...... but its been that long since started that the battery is flat
$420/each??? thats bloody expensive for kumho Ecsta's...KU31? I got my for $250 each 265/30/19 and the 275/30/19 is the same price.
+19 offset, only just fit, 255x35x18's stretched a bit. Lip of the rim is dead in line with the guard. Have been offered a guard roller next week to try to pump out the rears a bit. Working in reverse- making the car fit the rims. Paint cracking isn't a concern as a full respray is last on the list. Will make a couple of calls Monday to different outlets of tyre supplier (tyres and more) and pending quotes for ku31's, will question why I paid so much. Up in the air as to what to do with the car. It drives nicely, but is too "non-responsive" for my liking. Considering respraying in factory blue, quieter exhaust, possibly changing rims for the 17" Giugiaro's on the TT (much more subtle) and then selling it. Was always meant to only be a project, and have thoroughly enjoyed most of the work involved, moreso seeing a wrecking yard purchase saved.
Put some smaller lighter wheels on the thing. Going from 20" chromies to 18" mags on my na manual made a world of difference. On an auto I'm sure the problem would be tenfold worse. For me the change made the car a lot more responsive and less doughy. Made it feel like a Zed again rather than a commonwhore
Still progressing slowly. *Changed the 18x10's out for the 17" 5-spokes on the TT. 17x8 up front with 255x35, 17x9" on the rear with 275x40's. *More dressup bits arrived from Rob260- flawless transaction as always- Chrome plated master cyl cap, battery brace, shock caps, p/s ressy cap (to go with newly fitted HPC coated P/S ressy), clear rear bar markers and door strikers. *Nismo clear front indicators *Factory rear mufflers. Mistakenly purchased 2+2 variations..... yet to fit the 2+0's I've since acquired. Being able to hear anything over the prior cannons makes up for the "rotary" look of the 2+2 beer kegs hanging off the back. *New wiper blades from BrisZ group buy *New passenger cowel panel Had a problem with actual running of vehicle, suffered from surging/hesitation between 2-3k under all conditions. Tried different AFM's, reset base idle (AAC showing 20% on idle now), TPS rechecked multiple times at .46V, then reset to suggested .42V for NA Auto, and back to .46V with no success. So, got drunk and cracked it, pulling a late nighter till problem resolved- *Pulled coilpacks, tested resistance at packs, earths on connectors, signal continuity to S2 PTU and earths. Cleaned and retensioned new connectors. *Recleaned injectors. OHM tested, retensioned connectors *New plugs, gaps came in between 1-1.1mm *Boost tested for leaks. Minor leak at AAC seal in the unit itself. *Timing belt checked- rotated to TDC, cams checked and belt groove numbers checked. *Timing reset- was first set to 15deg, had dropped back to 10, so reset to 15 (car idling 720RPM, operating temp) Fired it up again and PRESTO...... running like a dream. No hesitation, no surging, no initially slumping when taking off. SPLITTING mofo headache all day however A/C regassed this week, hoping its as simple as just that. One final issue however. OIL! Have run the manual suggested grade, and I suffered from VCT rattle. Changed out to 5W40 after reading it resolved the issues for another member, and now I have lifter noise. Hopefully this is where Eric pipes in and reminds me of the oil he suggested...... again.
http://www.shell.com.au/home/conten...road/oils_lubricants/helix/product_range/hx5/ Shell Helix HX5. Good product and good price. Have had good results with this stuff in engines with noisy lifters but showing good oil pressure which is a good indication of bottom end wear.
champion.... and is it worthwhile doing an oil flush prior to the change? or is it just an expensive bottle of light grade oil designed for suckers... like me?
Never use that crap in a can, if you want to flush it, use something like Castrol RX super as it is readily available or Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme(I will order this for you if required) for a few service intervals. They are both diesel engine oils designed for heavy duty engines, on highway trucks, mining etc. The Premium Blue Extreme is formulated for EGR diesel engines which very quickly contaminate the oil. The additives in a bottle will dislodge the gunk and not break it down properly, resulting in blocked oil filters or worse, block oil strainers. Running the diesel oil will break it down much slower as it has a very high detergent level
all good. Will change the oil again. If I get VCT rattle, will drill and tap some blingy S/S grease nipples into the sprocket caps and fill em
Thats exactly what I always use, the yellow in the daily and the blue bottle in the zed, slightly better grade of oil.
Well, progress is still being made. Fresh oil change again and some recommended "magic lifter free in a bottle" and noise all goneskis. Time for another oil change again to get out crud. More oil changes than tanks of petrol. Cruice control repaired. Turned out the vacuum diaphram was leaking. For those interested, the setup off of a Nissan Maxima can be utilised with the following modifications:- *Brackets have to be swapped out. Am sure you could use the Maxima mounting gear if the Z32 setup is missing completely. *Plug for vacuum motor has to be swapped, is smaller on the maxima. Can either be changed to OEM socket, or swap the maxima plug. Pin layouts are the same, as confirmed with Diagnostic pin checks. Motor mounting screws are in the same location as the Z32. *Diaphram cable has to be swapped for the Z32, as the Maxima cable is longer, and cannot be adjusted when trying to fit it to the bracket on the plenum. This is as easy as popping off the cone shaped plastic surround on the end of the diaphram, pulling out a clip and swapping cables out. Adjusted properly, the cruise is sensational. doesnt overshoot when accelerating up a hill and holds speeds to within 2km/h. CLIMATE CONTROL REPAIRED! Went from a simple $250 for a retrofit to needing additional valves changed, 2 x regasses (leaked out first time) and compressor clutch rewiring. Would operate momentarily before blowing the 10A fuse. Well worth the effort, and final cost of $600. Temps climbed to 90-degrees and sat there. Will investigate operation of thermo fan and possibly putting a parallel switch wire from the compressor relay to the thermo signal wire, incorporating a diode to eliminate back feeding. Paint job time I spose.
Able to take the car for a lengthy drive to monitor operating temps with Climate control set to full on 10-degrees. With climate control off, at idle:- 84degrees With climate control on, at idle:- climbed about 1degree per minute. Stopped test at 95 With Climate off, city driving:- 84degrees With climate on, city driving:- 91degrees With climate off, highway driving:- 85degrees With climate on, highway driving:- 91degrees and climbing Went for the mod of putting a diode bridge in between the ECU controlled relay coil earths for the A/C and Thermo fan relays, making the thermo fan engage the moment the Compressor Clutch does. Not only were the temperatures significantly reduced, but the Climate control is estimated to be at least 25% more efficient, and for a total cost of under $10.... you cant legitimately feed a family of 4 for that! With Climate control on after mod at idle:- 85-86 degrees City Driving:- 86degrees Highway driving:- 87-88degrees. Went as low as 82degrees in the rain. Entire cooling system is new, apart from clutch fan. Guess its lacking a bit. Will replace, but has removed it from the "dire urgency list" now. Still a very cheap 30min mod to increase the efficiency of the climate control, without removing the factory ECU control of the Thermo relay.
Well, its been almost a year since first laying eyes on it as she rolled off the tilt tray into the wreckers. Have been slowly tinkering away- replacing, modifying or updating.... while the TT.. the original one.... sits idle waiting. A lot to be said for DIY, made soley possible with this forum and the priceless support and advice given by Eric/Drz400Y. Definitely cost a lot less than expected, yet more than intended for a "make it purdy and make it gone project".
