Firstly, thanks to Eric for the consultation over the phone.... greatly appreciated. As the title says, just puchased another Z32. Was at wrecking yard chasing parts for 1200 ute project, and they had a newly arrived Z32 on the floor. '91 Auto, Slicktop, 2 Seater NA, Blue Suspected hydrolocked motor. Owner said they drove it through a puddle, the car died, so they took it home, commenced disassembly, realised to was too complex for them and sold it for scrap. Apart from leather console lid cracked, auto shifter worn and leather seats badly perished, the suede interior is PERFECT. Carpet under the Factory FAIRLADY Z Floormats is immaculate. All boot panels, cargo blind, all unmarked. Exterior- Factory spoiler slightly rippled, small dent on front drivers corner of bonnet, few small dents in passenger door and front TT bar fitted is split at the bottom. Otherwise, car is dead straight. Paint is presentable, but not perfect. No scratches, dents other than mentioned. Car has lowered king springs all round (new) new cats, resonators and SS hotdog mufflers at the rear, and brand new 18's all round with new rubber (265x35x18 rear, 235x35x18 front).- receipt for $2000 for wheels and rubber provided. Condition of auto and motor is unknown. Sold with no guarantees on either. Will get a boroscope to inspect cylinders tomorrow. No signs of water in sump or airbox. Plenum, cam covers, timing belt, water pump, cam sprockets all removed, but no sign of any surface rust on the cams as yet. All removed parts are in the boot. Talked them down to $2500. Organised delivery tonight via tilt tray. Think trying to load a car onto and off of a car trailer 2 days after a hernia operation might be pushing the boundaries a lil too far. Will get photos up when it arrives :zlove::zlove::zlove:
Jealous. That is all i have to say. Lucky save too, wreckers are terrible places to send treasures too. Pics or it didnt happen =P
No they don't, the cool kids have v8's.......wait a minute:bash::bash: Happy to help Mick. So did you find anything for the 1200 while you were there?
Ha Ha I bet the 1200 was quickly forgotten about :zlove:. Great find hope you find all well with the motor.
Actually, bit of research found that the Distributor from the Nissan E15 motor, fitted to N12 Pulsars or ET Turbo's can be fitted to the old A-series block with minimal modifications. Saving about $350 to convert from the old points system to an electronic ignition. So, bought 2 of them.... and spent the money I saved on buying another Z. Just got a call from the Tilt Tray driver- car is loaded, but he wants to finish up for the night, so dropping it off first thing in the morning. Will drop some more pain killers and have a play then. Time will tell if its been a good buy, or a really really good buy. (unless motor, transmission and rear end are fubared, in which case a not so good buy, but staying optimistic). Photos definitely up first however. This makes 2 Slicktops now :zlove::zlove: Turns out it was the same Z32 that was in the wrecking yard about 6 months ago. Went to source some parts, but somebody had already put a deposit down on it complete. Had only been fixed and back on the road for 2 months before this.
great sounds like a good trip to the wreckers all round, Good luck with the zed, hope it works out well. Andy
ether way mate. its a good buy. if it turns out its buggerd on the mechanical side of things you can still make some money from parts and know that there going to the rite ppl. aka the aus300 community
I found a similar thing with Lucas dizzy's. MF and MH barina electronic internals fit directly into a Gemini distributor housing. Was alot cheaper than buying the Crane conversion kit when I setup a blown efi Gemini. Amazing what you can find out wondering around wrecking yards with a bit of lateral thinking.
Indeed, trying to get this lil ute as reliable as possible. Thermo over plastic fan S15 Fuel pump fitted in tank over aged mechanical S15 Steering column with associated ign and stalks over aged knobs all over the dash. Might have to trouble you with borrowing a boroscope sometime tomorrow if possible..... compensating with some fermented beverages. My other source just fell through
Toomorrow is out, will be at QR all day, unless it pours down. If it is pouring down toomorrow give me a call, 0400 437 899. Otherwise I will be at the workshop sunday from 10 until 3ish if that works for you.
Welcome back to the land of zeds.. Once they choose you, you cannot escape Look forward to seeing the progress she makes!
Love finding little goodies along the way. 1. Aftermarket Oil cooler fitted. 2. Electric Drivers and Electric passenger shagged leather seats. 3. KYB shocks all round. 4. 25c in change under the floor mats. 5. Head unit removed, but Alpine 6" 2-ways in doors and 5x3"? 2 ways in rear.
Progress Update: Inspection of cylinders showed no signs of water. Spark Plugs all spotless. Dropping of sump showed a flyshite of moisture, but dont know exact conditions that car was stored in after plenum was pulled. Staying Optimistic. Plan now is to reassemble motor to stage where it can be attempted to start. Further inspection found that amongst the pile of parts the previous owner had removed, the CAS, PTU,water pipes and cam sprockets were "misplaced". Not a concern, as I have spare polished CAS and bracket, polished water pipes, S2 PTU kit and spare TT parts engine. Now, the dilemma. Exhaust cam sprockets fit, intakes DO NOT. Seems the cams protrude into the timing cover 25mm on the TT, and only 15mm on the NA. Guessing that TT and NA Intake Cam sprockets are not interchangeable? All plugs are cactus. Surprised it even ran. Goal is to get running, assemble cooling system. Pressurise cooling system to check for potential head gasket blown and then compression test. All going well, will pull down again, then do 100k service including spare polished gear and replace all perished plugs. Either way, will ascertain as to whether or not motor is shot or not, costing nothing more than some of my time. Anybody is Brisbane area wanna swap, or sell a set of NA Intake Cam Sprockets?
They are all the same. My guess is you have a S2 motor in there Good luck finding a set of gears for it, I would change the cams. I sold a set of S2 intake gears for more than 2 whole NA long blocks
Both motors have EGR's fitted. Thought the S2's didnt So, to get some clarification, is it the S2 intake cams that protrude 15mm into the cam cover or the S1's? Might be able to chase up the last owner of the car. Both motors were also fitted with S1 PTU's also
PART DESCRIPTION: SPROCKET ADAPTER Z32 90-93 SPROC. WILL ALLOW LATE (94+ CAMS) INTAKE CAMS TO WORK IN 90-93 ENGINES. MUST BE USED WITH ALL JWT BILLET CAMS IN 90-93 ENGINES Did a bit of research. Details posted are for the "cam sprocket adaptors" on the Jim Wolf Website. Interpret that as, considering all of his Billet Cams are Series 1, that my spare motor, which I'm trying to get the intake cam sprockets to fit from, has Series 2 Intake Cams in it. Correct?
