i didn't do this...maybe thats why it lifted, but i did wait till it became tacky..
When i went and saw an upholsterer he said to rough up the surface too, but did not recommend using vinyl as it would be hard to work with..

well if mr interior magic guy actually wrote a propper instruction sheet so that people knew what to do.
Waste of my money and time. should have just gone to lincraft. but oh well i guess you learn from your mistakes.
I got ripped off big time by this crook.

    So JT was it successful?

By removing all the old glue, roughing up the surface and cleaning it chemicaly and using 3M90 has it held up (down)?

My trimmer used a 3M product made for the upholstery industry.

He sprayed it on with an Arnold Spray Gun, and three years later it hasn't moved 1mm.
The products are out there, what do you think professional Motor Trimmers use, Black Magic??:LOL::LOL:

    300zx interior trim

think about it for a quick second, if leather which is 2 times thicker then vinyl can be held in place, why won't vinyl? there are better glue out there then 3m, but 3m 80 and 90 is good for this kind of job, i've done my part, i sent you guys the best vinyl money can buy and sent instructions, i'm not there to guide your hands, so i don't know what you guys doing wrong, i did my Z with 3m 80 3 years ago and never any issue, i even offered for anybody to email me if they need help, nobody has, so, what do you want me to do? here is the thing, take my italian vinyl to an expert and see if they can find something better, i highly doubt they can, like i said before, i think some people over-stretch the material too much and they expect it to stay in place and also not doing the the correct prep work before getting started.

he supplied the material precut so I fail to see where he could

be a crook when it's the installation that went wrong instead. If you need instructions to put the interior trim kit on then you're already out of your league and you should have got an auto trimmer to do it for you.

Velour trim is a million times easier to use and wrap around bumps. For Vinyl and leather I've used a heat gun to make it easier to shape around bends.

    Crook???

I agree 100% Shane. Calling the supplier a crook, is not only wrong, it is also highly insulting.
From what has been reported on here, people were supplied with the product they chose to buy, it is the amateur attempts to fit the kit (and the incorrect use/choice of adhesives) that is the real problem.
Buy a set of pistons, does that make you a qualified mechanic? I very much doubt it.:LOL::LOL:

    Preperation

Hey guys,Im an upholsterer by trade . The most important thing is to make sure both surfaces are clean. Then you must spray the glue ....not paint it ... onto both surfaces evenly and let the glue go tacky... if you streatch the vinyl too much over a concave area it will lift ,so make sure you heat it up and try not to stretch it too much.

If done correctly it will last ..the quality of vinyl shouldnt matter ..So to blame Interior Magic is a bit Harsh ...
Just remember Upholstery is a trade ,it takes years to learn the so called tricks ot the trade ..ive been doing it for 20 years and still learn new ones.

If Anyone from the Sydney are needs assistance gimme a buzz ... ill help you out .

adition to my interior as of today(pics)

i just finished putting in the 300k speedo and the Group buy gauge rings.

i couldn't stop looking at the speedo... maybe now i'll be able to keep better track of what speed i'm doing... :)

or crash in to the car in front coz i'd be staring at the speedo... :)

i have to say the 300k speedo was a little harder than i thought to install... specially when i got help from my dad that managed to drop a big blob of solder on the circuit board and then go back inside leaving me to take all the solder off again and make sure none of the connections were touching.

end result was awsome though... i'll take it to the freeway tomorrow to test the speedo...

NO I WONT BE TAKING IT FOR A TOP SPEED RUN

i know the revs sit at about 2800 at 100k's so i'll make sure its calibrated correctly seeing as i didn't have a signal proccessor to check the accuracy of the calibration.

anyway here are the pics... feel free to comment

    my final thoughts on this

i have read a lot of posts, i see how we have some helpful people in here like Pauls and some other members, that have done this job and without any problem, tried to share their experience and tips. i hope the guys that are having trouble with the lifts read all the posts, i tried to explain why the lifts but nobody listen and try to blame it on my product. i'm very insulted and frankly discouraged to continue selling the kit, because of the material i used on the italian vinyl i'm barely making any profit when other sellers are asking 2 to 3 times for the same material.

    Dont be discouraged

Its not your fault if people dont follow the instructions properly or use the right glue. To blame you is just silly as it would have still happened if they precut their own vinyl.

If I buy of you i'll have it installed by a professional and even if it still lifted, i'd sooner blame the install job then blame you.

Keep up the good work  and dont be discouraged by a few unreasonable customers.

    lifting caused by silicon backing

My upholster said they could not garantee that the vinyl would not lift and say its because it have silicone backing not cotton or other. The silicon is waxy and slimy, and to clean it with some solvent could eat into the vinyl. The option we went with was glue the vinyl over the existing material. It would be fine in cooler climates but he has read many other articles about various peoples kits from the US for a variaty of vehicles and they lift cause the silicon backing can't withstand this climate, particularly QLD.

Will post results and photos in about a week.

    LIFTING

is also caused by some of the kit material sections not having enough overlap for some Zeds. I do not know whether this has been mentioned before, but it is a very important point, and that is, all Zeds are not the same exact size on the stock trim panels, particularly around the sharp corners.

Not only are they slightly different during manufacture, but over the years with wear and tear and being removed and replaced, damaged etc., they get out of shape. Not easily seen by the naked eye.

Therefore one size kit does not necessarily fit all Zeds panels.

This is one reason, as well as no fabric on the back, incorrect glue, incorrect fitting, why some lift and others do not.
