I conclude the $11 per M spotlight vinyl is crap.. so im goin for fabric

I really like the fabric used in some of the late model commodores.

Would look fully sik on the zed inserts...

prob the latest SS interior fabirc on the zed inserts would look pro

and ill match it up with racing seats or have stock seats retrimed black with the commodore fabric.

Re: Why didn't you just make all the old pieces slightly

i have the nylon backing on mine and i used 3M 90 glue and it is all comming up. looking back at the instructions they said nothing about staples. oh well looks like i'll get a professional to do when i get the money. that way i don't need to get irritated doing it myself.

This interior trim lifting people keep getting...

Would the same problems be experienced if going for leather or suede? Is it just the vinyl thats the problem? On a summers day the inside temps of the car can go in excess of 70-80 degrees C (according to a thermometer I placed in mine).

    Thats pretty damn hot!!

AndyM when your done doing yours you can do mine ;) Looks tops!

i have a thought, maybe you guys are using the wrong glue

i'm from the US, I HAVE OVER 1800 cusomers and none with that lifting problem, is the atmosphere that much different from the states? we use 3m 80 and 3m 90 , maybe those 2 glue don't work well in that kind of atmosphere, For example my UK customers told me a glue call EVO-STICK work best for them, maybe there's a glue in Australia that works better. Anybody that have the italian vinyl already know the quality of the material, you can bring it to any upholster and they will tell you it is the best and there's no doubt about it in my mind, and any proffesional will come to the same conclusion. one thing i would like to find out is what glue to use so i can help everybody

    bah wtf is it...

I been to super cheap car auto, miter 10, bunnings and also bloody LINCRAFT. No one has heard of 3m 90 Adhensive glue. They keep refering me to other places. God...wtf do you guys find it? Might be why som many people are hacing issues. Anyway, im about to start today. Got the following products:

Sellys 'ALL FIX' (was a yellow / off browish colour tube (not chalk tube) and it was 250grams. This goes through and you can see where you press it down. DONT USE THIS. it does NOT FIX ALL lol bah. Lucky it was a test panel under the steering wheel. Does not even stick to the carpet to vinal. Useless. Left it for 2 hours+ and didnt even set on the carpet, but on the wood block i tested it on worked fine (10 mins to set hard)). So stay away from this.

Now i got some extra strong areldite. 2 tubes connected to each other with the press panel thin gon the end and you have to mix the 2 soloutions to get it to work. Small tube. Done half the top center panel. Will see in the morning how it will turn out / strong.

I also have done the glovebox arm rest. That was just all nails and trimming, no glue needed.

Ill take pics of all this soon when i have a few more parts done.

I have to remember to purchase a staple gun too. I can tell already the door panels are going to be a bi*ch to do ;/

    Yay me...

Also where do you people get the Z tag. I seen it on the center console panel and also on the door triming of AndyM's ride (in this forum). Where can i steal this idea from? Just one for my console is all i want :) Cheers

    Lifting caused by incorrect preparation

of the surface before applying the glue.
hints on how to prepare the old surface prior starting would help, as I believe this caused my vinyl
    to lift.

Why don't all you amatuer upholsterers use the correct adhesive?

If you did, we could get rid of all these bitching posts.
Araldyte IS NOT an appropriate adhesive for this purpose(nor Blu Tack, Tarzans Grip or No More Gaps).

    100% correct CHILLI:thumbsup: , but i can't see all the info - sorry

Very useful post CHILLI, but for some reason my browser is NOT displaying the information in your post that defines the appropriate adhesive in your experience that works best in our range of conditions in Oz and where you have found it to be avaiable locally, could you repost that information for me please:thumbsup:.

    Hello all...
I used the HIGHEST 3M adhesive glue recommended and that is 3M 90...and it doesn't work for shit, i would not recommend anyone use this (but my car is black and gets REALLY hot)...i would try using an ACTUAL upholstery glue

    Chilli - which type glue?

Sorry Chilli, the location came up fine on the heading, but what type/grade of glue did not make it into the post body - so I assume it is a 3M product, but which grade do you say works bets ??? - the last post does not have a good opinion of 3M90, so is it another glue you recommend, or did 3M90 work fine for you ??

did you wipe the surfaces with prep-wash (acetane). Also if covering over

plastic scuff it up with some sandpaper to get rid of the shiney surface. Also when applying the glue you let the glue get tacky before trying to lay down the vinyl down for the final time.

thats what my upholstery guy said

If you dont get ALL the old glue off it will lift. He used some chemicals to get it off but said it still took him ages.
