Well I drove the zed home from the workshop last week and all seemed ok. TWD came on, pulled over. Popped a welch plug out the back of the motor. Tilt tray home :bash: Started 2x after that for a matter of seconds to get it on the tray and then into the garage athome. Pulled plenum off to chech heater and turbos lines. All good. Pulled GB off and confirmed welch plug was missing. Installed new plug and reinstalled GB. Re-sealed cam cover while plenum was off. Reinstalled plenum. Realised lower plenum hadn't been bolted back down. Pulled plenum. Bolted lower plenum back in place and reinstalled upper plenum. Forgot spark plug tube. Pulled plenum, installed spark plug tube. Reinstalled plenum. Now the bloody thing won't fire up! It turns over as per normal but it won't fire. It is def getting spark and def getting fuel. Pulled coilpacks and plugs out. Plugs soaked in fuel. Pulled CAS and manually turned it to confirm firing order and spark. Swapped the soaked iridium plugs out for the old ones and confirmed they all made spark. Checked starter wiring and earth - both seem as normal. Had Bones over after work for a look and checked all plugs etc and hoses to make sure they are all fine. Tried starting with TB pipes off to eliminate airflow as the issue (on advice from Niall). Pulled the fuel pump relay and cranked over to clear all fuel from cylinders, reconnected and tried again - no luck. No change in anything. I'm pretty much at a loss as to what the problem is :banned: Since it ran and I drove from AMEC, all we have done is dropped the GB and pulled the plenum about 3 or 4 times. Nothing has changed Any ideas guys? Something simple I'm assuming that has been overlooked... Cheers, Mike PS all 3 (2x1 and 1x2) earths on back of plenum are earthed
This totally sucks Mike. How about putting a huge air leak? maybe something pinched between upper and lower plenum?
There shouldn't be anything in between the upper and lower, but I guess I'm going to have to pull the plenum again Can have it off in 20mins.
Can't find my consult cable to check for codes. There was no codes when at AMEC and the car was running
Has datascan given you any help with settings/errors? it would have to be a MONSTER vacuum leak to stop it from wanting to turn over, but try a leakdown test, also check timing isn't out.
Does it sound like it wants to run? Coughing and farting or just cranks? I'd start changing things, coilpacks, CAS, ECU etc. I have spares for most things except ECU. Welcome to them if you want.
If ur comfirmed on the fuel ,spark and air supply all u need is the correct timing for it to run . What is ur base fuel pressure? I would def get copper plugs in there to sort this problem out Trev
hey mate, u mentioned you dropped the gearbox... maybe neutral safety switch?? i know it sounds stupid but its usually something small, and are all earth cables connected??
alright self diganostics has been done, might get a datascan cable tomorrow to test that part. the gearbox is hooked up properly. and areostart doesn't sound like a bad idea.
Hi Magic Mike When you pulled off the plenum, did you use rags etc to block up the intake pipes. Just on the off chance one of them has fallen in too far to see.
Timing test next I guess... You reading this Bones? Borrow your timing gun 2moro mate? I'll make sure I have rum
Did use 3 rags and all are accounted for. Also pulled the throttlebody pipes off and tried to start it to eliminate the intake tract as the problem
Why the heck did you not connect it! Dude bad earths = bad circuits. The Z has average earthing points as it is. Without sufficient earthing, when you crank the starter the voltage will drop enough in the ECU to interupt a multitude of conditions required to start. A semi flat battery will also allow the starter to move but the engine will not start because the voltage has dropped significantly, usaully below 10 Volts. Make sure you connect it on the back of the passenger side head too.
