Winton Summary Didn't even crash once haha! Nah it was a really good day, gets so tiring throwing the zed around all day, but it was well worth it. To those who bitched and moaned about how crap I'd handle, I still out cornered all the Commodores, and isnt that what's really important? Temp was pretty good, ambient temp was in the mid 30? mark, hottest the zed got was 90? before I pulled her off for a cool down. Brakes held up surprisingly well, didn't experience any noticeable fade... Maybe I wasn't driving hard enough. Biggest issue I had was the severe lack of power coming out of the corners. Soon to be rectified
Glad to see your going manual/turbo conversion!! Escort bar will look sex Should come to a track day next time I go man!
Damn right. As long as you're going harder than some of the cars around you, it's gunna feel alright. And if you get passed by an MX-5, pah. Surprised about the brakes. I took my old Z32 down a mountain on the GOR once. Wasn't going too hard, but we had to stop for ice cream at the bottom coz you could smell the brakes
Pre Track Day Prep Not really in order here, but here it is anyway. Wanted to prepare for todays track day by giving her an oil change and putting on a few of the parts I had lying around. New oil also meant a new drain plug. A magnetic Greddy item took the original bolts place. Then my SPL brake ducts were installed. Luckily for me, later model zeds have a threaded section in the lower control arm, so this is utilised for the install. Earlier models must be drilled into so a nut and bolt can be used to secure the ducts. Drivers side on, no problems! Passenger side was a bit different. When I went to bolt the duct up, I realised that Pedders, the business that installed the SPL Tension rods some months back, installed the passenger side upside down. This mean that the two threaded holes in the tension rods were on the wrong side. Simple fix with some cable ties and problem solved. That was it for prep, a quick snap of the Zed and my mates R34 GT before we hit the track. :zlove:
Yeah man can't wait! For sure, will be good to go for another thrash with you Brake fade might of been reduced by the slotted rotors and the brake ducts, other then that I've got no idea, my setup is essentially stock How don't they work? I got mine through CZP if it makes a difference. edit: Just read up on them not fitting, mine went in without a problem. Bloody strong magnet too. Maybe the design was changed?
Could be just later vs earlier brakes. Apparently the '90 ones weren't as good as '92 or whevener they fixed them up. Down that hill, I was in a '90.
Only the calipers were different, however late model N/A's were fitted with TT sized rotors, maybe this had a role in it too.
On a track it's hit the brakes super hard for a really short period then you get some air flow on them to cool them down a bit. Driving down a mountain you more than likely had your foot on the brakes most of the way down (even lightly) resulting in overheating the discs and reduced braking. Nice work Dean. Sorry if I missed it, but which track did you go to?
Didn't even think about that, great point. Dunno if I mentioned the track actually, it was Winton. I thought it was a good track to learn on, nothing too confusing about it, and I really didn't see above 140/150km on it. Whether that's because I'm N/A or the track isn't particularly fast is for the more experienced to decide hah!
Because if the cyclinder leaks or a seal blows out the car will come crashing down and crush you... and yes it does happen.. plus even a semi slow leak you may not notice til its too low to get out and you are slowly crushed in a very painful slow death... really really really stupid to be under a car with just a jack supporting.. always have some kinda mechanical physical support under it.... and that doesnt mean a stock scissor jack
thats what my fat gut is for im always aware of teh jack and only get under it for a short period of time. guess i better get some stands eh
