Hello all, as most of you know I'd been searching for my perfect Z for the better part of 5 months, up until a few days ago. I'd like to use this thread to keep a record of any issues I resolve and any modifications I add, just so everyone can keep tabs, and for my own personal organization :p

I got a call from a mate who told me about a Z he'd seen for sale on the side of the road up in Footscray. I gave the guy a call and he told me what he could about it, but he was Asian and didn't speak English too well, however he did tell me it was a 1998 Z, so I organized a time and went to see it myself.

I rocked up and there she was, a Midnight Purple Z that looked like it hadn't been washed in a while
Gave it an inspection with my old man, went for a test drive and I was quite impressed. It wasn't in the greatest condition, but nothing that couldn't be fixed.

I took it to my mechanic the day later, where he put it up on the hoist and gave it a good look. Everything seemed in good working order, except he found a very slow leak from the Rear Main Seal.
The owner then left and I had a discussion with my mechanic about how much he believed it was worth and his opinion on whether or not I should buy it.
He gave me the go ahead as long as I could get the price down a bit :D
Called the owner back up and made a deal with him for $8800, as is.

Went to go collect the car on the 23rd Of October from his other house in Point Cook. Once we got there he gave me the stock wheels, roller cover and of course, the Z itself!
Got her home and started the clean up. A good wash and vacuum later and she was looking much better :) (Only downside to the day was the original key snapping and us having to get another one cut )

Then the Chrome Rims came off and made way for the stockies :D

Today I had her professionally Cut And Polished by Brett from Carina Mobile Car Detailing Service. I chose him as he Detailed my Dad's 1964 XM Falcon Coupe a few years back. The Cut And Polish took about three and a half hours, but the results were well worth the wait/cost ($150).

So everything is going well at the moment, a few more things need to be attended to, but it's booked in for its RWC tomorrow, and service is soon to follow :D

Hope you guys enjoyed the read and keep on reading in the future :)

    Cheers, Dean.

Sorry guys I completely forgot to mention, it turned out to be a 1997, not a 1998 :p

And a N/A Auto to TT Manual is the plan for the future :)

Also, the wheels are on the right way I think... Going by the way the vents are facing and the direction of the arrow on the tyre, I've done it right...

Good progress. Cut and polish looks fantastic. Nismo clear side indicators would really look good instead of the old ones too.

The blades of the wheel are supposed to draw air from the brakes.

If the tires arrows are facing forward then it just means whoever mounted the tires did it backwards.

The red Z in my pics looks like balls if I don't polish it for a few months, but after a nice clean, polish, and wax, always looks better. Red is probably the worst colour for fade, but every zed looks brilliant after you spend a few hours on your weekend keeping her looking pretty.

bRACKET - she looks beautiful! I am a huge fan of that colour, and think you got a brilliant buy for the price. Congratulations! You certainly show everyone what you can get if you wait for the right car. :)

Can't believe you nabbed a real '97.. I'd KILL for anything '95 and onwards :(

Huge congrats mate! Absolute steal for that price, if another was going for that price right now and in that condition I'd nab it tomorrow.

Just thought I'd make a list of the issues it currently has so as I get around to them I can cross them off :)

    1. No RWC (Getting Done Today)
    2. Interior neons need to be taken out + holes repaired.
    3. Amp needs to be relocated from the passenger side foot well and mounted on the sub.
    4. Make a custom sub box so I can fit the Targa's in as well as a sub/amp.
    5. Hole in the dash needs to be repaired (The previous owner screwed his GPS stand into the dash!
    6. Service.
    7. Remove all the little dings from the two doors. (There is a surprising amount :()

That's about it to get her up to scratch, ill update as each thing plus anything else gets done to her :)

    P.s Jedi PM'd :)
