    yep how about -ve effect...

If theyre gonna crush cars, the car i go hooning in is going to have to be absolute worthless trash not costing more than 2 cases of beer to purchase. mods will be ghetto slicks, removal of springs, no zorst and no intake system.

That is EXACTLY what they do in the U.S, for example guys will buy 3 or more Camaros and do ghetto mods just as you described. It almost becomes a game, lets see who can get the most cars crushed. It's a tactic that fails miserably, you just dont street race in the car that is your baby and take the bomber...

Street racing is dangerous, but so are 85 year olds who can barely see over the steering wheel doing 25kmph in an 80 zone! lol

Build more race tracks, advertise them. That will cut this behavior down alot...

    Booboo behind enemy lines

after police observed them allegedly racing side-by-side on the Great Western Highway

this is whats got me worried as i have been in a mates car which happens to be a ss and we were driving side by side with an xr8 driving not racing yet soon after pulling into his driveway the police were parked behind him and acusing him of "racing". I dont race but i dont want to lose my car cos someone just says oh yea officer i saw that car racing. I think ill just lay low in the zed untill i get my blacks

100% with ya there ;) ....its pretty logical really, parents telling you not to smoke, so you do it...its the adrenaline rush that you get out of doing something you are not allowed or shouldn't do, its just natural, wateva it be in life...

never really been a fan of paying out oldies on the road butttt... the other day.. ohhh my..

in the car park, old guy decided he wanted to go down one of the lanes, turned too late, drove up the gutter where they place tree's n what not.. on the other side is a parked car..

soo the old guy reversed back about 2 feet, turns the steering wheel about 3cm over and tries again, nope.. seems to find himself in ALMOST the exact same spot.. he repeated this 4 times looking more and more confused each time  so i beeped him,
now this was probably was a bit cruel coz it looked like he shat his dacks (air horn in the zed :p )
another senier citizen was also trying to help the confused on man get off this gutter/median,
now on the 7th attemp (seriously 5 mins) he finally turned enough to make it OVER this gutter not around it lol,
bottomed out his whole ef falcon ghia (what else would he be driving) allowing regular motorists to finally fkn pass!!

later that day i was unlucky enough to be stuck behind a miss daisy do no less then 30km down a 60km road despite flashing and beeping her, was 2 solid red lines and only 1 lane.. god damnit.

    In a word, BULLSHIT!
I wondered how long it would take for this thread to switch the blame to the victims.
Build more race tracks? And who do you think will be paying for this gem? The long suffering, tax paying public, that's who. And who will be using these tracks? No one, because these dickheads don't like rules & regulations(and if they have to be supervised they will find another public road to use).
There was a very healthy Car Club scene in this country when I was a teenager, and you could get all the car-hooning out of your system any weekend of the year, on private off street areas(and get your arse kicked if you made an idiot of yourself), but you also learned to drive properly and skillfully.
Strangely, there was little, or no, street racing scene until some of the rebels started to use Underwood Rd, Homebush (an Industrial area) for illegal drag racing, and then the problems commenced.

Yes, you can "take off from a set of traffic lights(and not exceed the speed limit). Unfortunately, you can also be booked for "Driving in a manner dangerous", and there is NO speed limit on that offense.

For your information, 5-10kph is considered "safe" in a carpark in NSW. 15-20kph IS NOT!

    Agreed media is BS

Pisses me off how they dont even bother to match images to story even on TV.

Dont know if you guys over east heard, but there was a HUGE ignition DVD meet over here in Perth.

    1000 Cars.

About 7 cars started doing burnouts so the cops (chopper and all) road blocked the meet and checked pretty much everyones car.

On the news "HOONS!!!!!!!" all over the place.

what? 7 dick heads out of 1000 cars? OMG jail us all!!!!!

What REALLY pissed me off was on the news:

"And 1 P plater was charged with being over the legal limit"
**Camera cuts to footage of a cop next to MY MATES WRX**

HE WASN"T OVER THE LIMIT!!!! HE HADN'T TOUCHED A DROP. IT WAS SOME OTHER DICK HEAD!!!! The footage was NOTHING to do with what they were talking about!!!

IMO the media should go back to clearly printing "Librabry footage" or dont show anything at all.

    How is that bullshit?

Fair enough I don't think more race tracks are going to stop street racing. But some and I repeat SOME older people really shouldn't be allowed to drive.

For example, my Grandfather is over 80 years old and I wouldn't get into a car with him in a pink fit. He actually admitted once to having double vision and not being sure which road he was supposed to be driving down.

I've seen him back his farm ute into dad's shed and drive off oblivious as to what he'd done. He is a danger to everyone on the road and yet they give him his license every year.

I'm not saying all 80 year olds are dangerous, but they are out there. Of course there are crap drivers in all age brackets. The license test's are nearly strict enough.

Yeah silly me, of course money is more important than peoples lives. The FACT is that if there are more avenues for people to race legally then people WILL. No doubt the reckless dickheads wont, and they're a risk to everyone. That doesn't mean you dont give avenues for the genuine people who just want somewhere to race their car.

"Oh those few dickheads wont use it, so screw everyone"

And you wonder why people find their way to street racing. Attitudes like yours are the EXACT reason problems like this exist... The whole "back in my day hardly anyone did that" is the only bullshit here.

Straying from topic, but it's not bullshit...

Age does play a factor in driving behavior. Even though it isn't always a factor, often it is. Young drivers think they are invincible, & don't always comprehend how easy it is for things to go pair shape and end in disaster.
Older drivers are a lot more reserved in their driving behavior, and not always as attentive. Just the other day in town, and elderly couple were driving through the city, and decided they wanted to change into the lane I was in. I was driving beside them, he used their indicator... which was all well and good, but did he look over his shoulder to check his blind spot... no! He came very close to taking me out. I gave him a beep to let him know I was there, but seems he didn't hear me, or didn't care as he ended up forcing me into the next lane. Got to love older drivers

I think most peoples problem wen driving, is like not knowing there limits, so wen 2 idiots decided to drag, all they want is to win, at any cost, they wont back off,i know i personally have had my share of 'foot down' incidents but wen the car gets to the point where im like getting tooo nervise then i dont care wat i am/was raceing im going to back off, i personally think too many people out there have the 'any thing he can do, i can do better' type of attitude wen it comes to being on the road.

    well thats 1 mans opnions

p.s not allowing 'P' plate drivers to own zeds is a good idea!!!! (lol i say that because ive been off mine for like 2weeks :D :D :D ) :bash: :bash:

    p.p.s jokes :D

As a "concerned road user", did you notify any of the authorities about your Grandfathers declining roadskills(out of concern for his, and others safety)?
Or are you content to sit back and say "somebody should do something". Road safety starts with each of us, not with some mythical "somebody". It's up to every responsible individual to actively get involved, not wait for someone else to do it for us.
Knowing that you helped to keep him(and maybe someone else) safe and alive, should offset any remorse you feel at having to report your concerns.

BTW, in NSW, elderly drivers are re-tested periodically.:zlove:

Here too. He passed his test last year, to the amazement of us all, so what else can we do?

The double vision issue has been corrected since he made us aware of it. Still doesn't make him a good driver though. I suppose the one saving grace is he's rarely going fast enough to cause much damage.

I think you need to take another look at your argument.
You are trying to tell us that sensible, intelligent drivers "who just want to race their cars", need to have race tracks built for them, because ATM they're out there street racing with the "idiots"(idiots who you acknowledge, will still street race, no matter what).
How the Hell is that going to make one ounce of difference to road safety?
    Get a grip mate!

There is every possible opportunity for anyone who genuinely wants to race, to do so, from Club level right on up.
Why do you think the Government should provide more?
Join a CAMS affiliated Car Club, and start from there.
Not doing so, and whinging on here, is the real bullshit. Get off your arse and do something for yourself, instead of bleating about somebody else needing to do it for you.

I think you need to take a look at yours...

Sorry but there's no logic to your arguement. It's similar to saying why bother having laws? Criminals are just going to break them anyway, so we might aswell not even have any laws in the first place right? People who share your opinion are the ones who want to keep tracks like Lakeside etc closed. For the record I am a member of a club! :)

im only 19 and i have never been booked for speeding or any other stupid driving, this is based on the fact that i would be destroyed if i lost my licence.......... problem is - all this street racing bullshit started by some old guy in his commo, i think he was 30. so before you go catagorizing the younger crowd as bad drivers maybe its just randoms. do be honest, the driving decissions some drivers make, i reckon they need to get their head examined... i.e. the 2 WRX's on anzac bridge in syd... 160km/h in a 60 zone.

Personally I dont think racing on track stops you on street

    Just my opinion....

Dont get me wrong, i wouldn't class myself as a "hoon" but like most people, ive done the occasional "drag" from the lights when you know the person in the car next to you is wanting to play.

I used to pride myself on saying "I only drag to the limit" but that wasn't always true either.

I really really thought that once I'd been to the LEGAL drag strip, I wouldn't feel the need anymore.

Went down and had an AWSOME night. Recommended it to anyone.

On the way home on the freeway, several other cars felt the need to "challange me" but I just sat there happily cruising at the limit still with the grin on my face from the races.

but as i got very near home to streets I know well, i found my self at a set of lights next to a guy I knew, who also drove a 180SX. We had a chat out the window. Told me what times he'd run when he went to the drags. I told my times (still with my stupid grin) and that was that... nothing more was said.

So no reason to race right?

Lights changed, and we both just automatically gunned it

    Nothing silly, but we "raced"

Point: It takes more than "going to the track" to stop you doing it on the streets. It will always take personal disapline... and some people just dont have that in them.
