    Handles On.

Spent a good chunk of the morning putting the handles and door trims back on. Big thanks to OZX 320, the step by step guide worked a charm, probably saved me a few hours :D

First handle took dad and i about 45 mins to figure out, then 15 to get it in and working. Second handle took 10 to get in and working, not bad. Door cards went on pretty good so no big dramas. I was thinking of wrapping some of the plastic parts while they were out but im just so wrapped out for the time being, iv gone pretty hard this week putting in a heap of hours.

Plans for the guards are Thursday. I don't think i will run into any problems, relatively small surface area and some slight curves.

    Here is todays pics:

if you take a step back and look at the zed as a whole rather than its black parts combined you can really notice the transformation..its now a black car with a tad of silver :)

cheers for the kind words and advice, i cant wait to see it done.

    until next time...

    Matt.

    Hey mate.

The US Air Force called. They want their F22 Raptor back.

    Looks fantastic.

Looks the goods. You're unfortunately at that stage however where it looks like you crashed your Zed and had to replace the front, but never got the new panels painted :p

My all time favorite is the lockheed f-117 nighthawk:

This is probably where my obsession with black and stealthiness came from. I have models of it floating around somewhere.

back on topic though, i may or may not have some Carbon fiber wrap in the not too distant future to play around with

so ill see how that turns out and give everyone a run down on the differences/similarities between the 2 materials.

I feel like iv almost mastered this vinyl and its time to broaden my horizons and play with some others :zlove:

I also have a few ideas in the mix that some people might be interested in.

    e.g blacked out roof look

It gives it a different style, very subtle but appealing. Would be very cheap and easy for me to do and its removable AND protects the paint :)

This vinyl is still surprising me, its not cheap crap, the first pieces i did were over 2 moths ago and they look as fresh as the newest pieces.

hehe, yep and theres a small amount of front end damage to that i dont know what im gonna do about yet. :)

happy to do it for/with you, PM anytime :)

unsure. current rims are going matte black until such time as i find the perfect rims :br:

Also having thoughts about an eventual TT swap, really all depends who is near me and can lend a helping hand. wouldn't be for 3 months anyway :)

    Throttle Cover

    Sorry no guards today :(

Im investigating some damage on the passenger side guard. So the new plans are drivers side guard tomorrow.

In the mean time i did the throttle cover. The paint is heat resistant up to 500 degrees or something so i presume that will be fine.

    Started out looking fairly dull.

Came out good, a few little spots to fix up but overall an easy 15min job.

And no, i wasn't game putting vinyl underneath the bonnet lol.

    until next time..

    On Request: interior trim!

So a few people have expressed interest in interior plastics/boot trim.

Iv done a little fiddling and a mock up or what of i have seen/noticed.

This is the passenger side window switch fascia:

    Normal.

    Normal again.

Hole cut and starting to press it down as you can see.

    Finished:

Excuse the sideways images, imageshack is being a pain.

It really doesn't look any different to me sitting on the table. Its only a few shades darker than the original colour. However this piece wasnt that faded and had no damage.

I know you wanted boot trims but they are larger pieces and to be honest..my boots trims are in pretty good condition. So i have done a mock up using Mafi's boot trim pics here:
This is very close to the change in colour that i have noticed by putting the ashtray in and comparing it to the surrounding pieces.

So its going to change the faded look to jet black. As for scuff marks they will need to be sanded out i would say otherwise you still get the plastic damage but not the colour.

so..since my boot trims are in good condition does anyone have any rough ones to offer up and have an experiment on?

    enjoy.

    matt.

Wish you were in Sydney mate, my boot trims seriously need it. I think it will make a massive difference to the whole boot space. Just looking at the curves and contours of some of the pieces though tells me it could be a trick job though .

    hehe :)

the curves don't worry me that much and in the end a very well hidden join is unnoticeable if you trim it properly. Id say a full set of boot trims would take me about...2 hours to get it looking perfect.

Also if anyone is interested in numbers ill give you a good breakdown and comparison here:

A full respray costs? (ill let you decide)

I got a quote from a professional vinyl applicator @ $5000 for the zed and he said some silver bits will inevitably show through. I was never considering that option but its interesting to know.

I Have put 40 odd hours into it so far with 8 or so to go + $450 for the vinyl.

If i were to offer this to people (as some have expressed interest through PM also) then i would base my numbers off time to difficulty ratio + materials.

I would put each panel at $10-$150 and a full wrap at $1650. I don't think you could get it any cheaper and i would guarantee quality based on your paint quality.

That being said im not sure how serious people would be so if its a small bit i would do it for a drink or 2 :)

Anyway, today i got a bit sidetracked and then decided to try remove the front bar to get a better edge on the guard. The driver side is all prepped and ready to go for tomorrow :D

Here is a pic of the engine bay ;p

I have a boot trim for a 2+0. Changed out from my NA, and pretty sure its almost complete. Will check to confirm.

Can also put you on to a cheap and extremely good window tinter. 5% on quarter windows and hatch glass with 18% on door windows looks spectacular. He will even do a 65% on windscreens.

How much would you charge for a set of 2+2 boot plastics?
