Yes!! i totally forgot about that. I was talking to a guy a month or so ago about this. He said he didn't change the colour until it was completely done. Ill have to investigate it though.

alright well ill have to save it for sunday/monday then.

    cheers.

door handles are a royal pita.
*Easy enough to get the tabs off with a long handled flatblade screwdriver- to remove the linkages for the handle and locking mechanism. Be patient, especially with the plastic backing of the lock barrel.
*Access the front 6mm nut from within the door frame with a 10mm spanner (trim removed and window up).
*Pop out the plastic bung (about 20mm diameter) from the outer door, will allow access to the 6mm nut at the rear of the handle, using a 1/4" socket and extension.

Putting the handle back in is a slow, delicate procedure.
*Holding the linkage/rod for the latch, access it from outside the door, holding the handle close, clip it into position. Getting the handle in is a bit of an effort. Handle slightly open, right foot in the air and left foot about 97-degrees from the car. Will see what i mean when you go to re-install. Handle goes in easily without rod attached, but is impossible to get it in with the handle installed.
*Once youve finally fitted the handle into place again without scratching your vinyl, put the 6mm nuts on first. Bit on blue tack in the socket for the rear nut will stop it from falling down inside your door frame. It would "appear" that a uni-joint would be better, but its not.
    *Refit the front 6mm nut.
*Connect the Locking rod from within the door frame.
*Straight to the laundry tub with washing powder, a scourer and a bit of wood to bite down on as you scrub off the black sealant material thats now covered your skinned, bleeding hands.
    *Pop the bung back in
*re-install your door trims. Window down for this makes it a lot easier to get the window seal to clip around the door frame. If you've broken your clips, they're readily available from Supercrap for $3.95 per pack of about 10.

excellent instruction mate, will be very helpful when i attempt this. any ideas on a timeframe per door?

off topic: you never PMd me back about the mirror  ill get the plug thingy for you if you still want it while the card is off, just let me know either way. :)

    cheers,
    matt

Mirror is all sorted, thanks for that.

Expect maybe 3 paced hours per door, especially if you havent pulled a trim before. Pays to have the window down initially to remove trim. Then plug in and wind up to access internals for handle. You've pulled your door trims before?

    btw- car is looking awesome.

yea i have pulled the door card off before, took 10 mins? where does this 3 hours come from lol...sigh at that! 3 hours for a normal person is about 6 hours for me hahah.

    and cheers :)

    Took me 4hrs to:-
    * Pull drivers trim
    * Fit S1 electric mirror to S2 loom (not as simple as just plugging it in  ) * 4-5 attempts to fit new door handle after pulling broken 1 out.
    * Fit new door speaker and solder loom for. Large magnet 6 1/2 splits are not a good idea.
    * Refit trim with new clips.

Key for door handle re-install is that you MUST get the latching rod installed by reaching through the exterior hole, and seek comfort in the fact that, at the right angle, with the handle opened to the right degree, it DOES slide in, without damaging the paint, or vinyl in your case. You will NEVER be able to get it all installed with the handle fitted to the car, screwed in or not. I wasted a good hour, and multiple layers of skin trying. The locking rod is enough of a mission from within the door frame.

Sounds like a mission OZX, tomorrow is the day :)

The black makes it really stealthy on the bottom side. I tried taking a picture at night and failed. I would post it but its just a black square :)

Just another quick thought i have been having before i go to bed.

I keep noticing the mistakes i made on the hatch and its really..really pissing me off (seam and bumps due to less than perfect panel work)

ill get some good pics up of these mistakes, you can really only see it on certain angles and in the right light.

So change of plans, its now this:

    Door handles(tomorrow)
    Doors(tomorrow/Monday)
    Guards(later this week)
Front bar(when i get it and after guards)
Redo the hatch(after guards and possibly before front bar if i don't have it)
Interior silver parts like targa top area, door sills and hatch sills(after hatch)

6 things to tick off till im done with the vinyl :)

    plans in/after that are

    Nismo smoked side indicators
    smoked rear markers(reflectors)
    smoked front indicators
    35% tint all round
Rim re spray in matte black
    possible fog delete/ducts
    [IMG]
similar to this if i can get my hands on them(anyone know?) and wrapped in matte black of course.

interestingly the Americans call this all black theme "murdered out"

    hmm

Question- How would it go wrapping say the boot trims? Seem to be getting harder and harder to find a perfect condition set, whereas a full wrap with a close enough finish could solve a lot of hunting.......

you might be onto something here!!!

I was thinking of my boot trims the other day. How did i not put 2 and 2 together *facepalm*

i have a HEAP (more than a heap actually) of little sections of vinyl i could use that would be perfect.

The general rule (which also applies to spraying) is that it will not cover up imperfections, any little thing will show through. However, i wouldn't be phased at all if i had to sand them up or something to wrap them. The vinyl would hide all the coloured scuff marks and the faded look would be a nice jet black.

ill pull a small bit off like the vents or lay some patches down on bad bits to see what its like and get pics up tomorrow. easy and quick job.

    cheers :)

I've got a set of the fibreglass ones, cost nearly as much as the front bar did . I wouldn't spend the money on the carbon ones if you are just going to cover them in black sticker :p
    [IMG]

I can't say how well they fit a stock bar, but they appeared to be very well made.

Not a fan of painting them body colour... it looks like there's a set of lights missing, unless you've been told what they are. at least imo.

    Door Handles

Been casually at it since 1pm, door trim came off pretty easily. Got the first nut pretty easy, second one i worked at for an hour..then i dropped it. Then i realized it wasn't the right one  So i located the right one and grabbed it out (with my fave tool;))

    Trims off.

The favorite tool, not sure how common it is but ill explain it anyway. Its a good 60cm long, its flexible and has 4 wires running down the middle with a button on the end that extends these claws out. Awesome for grabbing nuts and doing that last quarter turn and pulling them out from stupid spots.

Drivers side started out like this.

Heated it and pressed it in and trimmed up the top. The reason i couldn't get that part off was because i didn't want to damage the mechanism that holds it together. I had to trim the top close but enough to go down behind this 1mm gap. I spent some time positioning it and pressed it in with a thin blade.

and it came out looking good (first shot!!)

Then wrapped that bit, was pretty easy.

    Keyhole, looks sharp.

    Passenger side.

    Heating and stretching it inwards

all done, 2 delicious door handles.

Also wrapped my ashtray today, quick pic here:
not the best of pics. In the car it looks darker than the stock stuff. Freshens it up very nicely and goes on really easy. Ill have more of a play with it when im done, so many other things to do right now.

My doors are still in pieces all over the garage, ill be wrapping them both tomorrow morning and getting the handles back on and back to normal.

well that wraps it up, im all wrapped out for today

cheers for reading and have a good night :)

    until next time...

    Doors

Big one today, lots of prep work and many hours laying the vinyl.

The roll width is ~123cm, so i halved that @ 61.5cm (actual height of door is 57cm) so i had about 5cms to play with, which isnt that much. Bonus to doing that was what you see there is all that was needed to do both doors :D
    [IMG]

Iv been trying to minimize offcuts the whole way but its inevitable to have some. Pic of the roll and remainder vinyl (lots!!)

Dad wanted to be on the internets
If you can take yours eyes off him youl see the vinyl is tacced up and stretched ready to be pressed down.
Another interesting thing that happened was when we peeled the vinyl off the backing paper a huge bug flew down and landed on the sticky side right in the middle. All we could do was watch him crawl around until he was punched off lol!

Pre trimming, took about an hour to get to this point.

Post trim, about 30mins to trim it up perfect.

Natural light, but still...not even close to what it looks like in the flesh.

Passenger side, no problems and a little quicker to do.

    door handle slot.

When i was standing there its like looking at your own private stealth bomber parked in your garage. :D
    [IMG]

I didnt get time to put the door handles on, looks very difficult and time consuming and i have guests coming over. Ill get it done tomorrow though (i hope).

Plans for the guards are Thursday, ill be up in Brisbane all Wednesday.

    cheers for viewing :D

    until next time...

    Matt.
