after priming, what was your sanding process to get it to this finish? i.e. what grades did you use? and by hand, block, or orbital?
deff no orbital ey, just by hand. 400 wet rub then 800. i did this process 4 times then rubbed back twice with 800
Im looking forward to seeing this in person once finished , u might have a few customers queueing up wanting resprays
haha na f*** that. just sprayed color and damn those fumes get ya and im wearing a full suit and twin charcoal filters. well worth it tho came out wicked, surprised myself ey. uploading pics. its all about using a good compressor. looks better in person and this is a good cam. now i gotta wait 2weeks then spray clear when weathers good. cant find a drip anywhere!!!
Is that all 2pac in the home garage? What brand paints/thinners/hardner you using? Also ballpark figure on the materials - primer, hardner, paint, thinners and clear?
 man looks bloody awesome, well done mate you should be super proud of yourself. Sure ya don't want to do a few other people's cars ? I'm sure a nice holiday up in Sunny stinking hot Queensland will help cure the paint fume hangovers
na man acrylic. if it was 2pac id be dead i reckon,... or at least brain dead lol. metalic paint costs about $230. everything all up including buying new compressor from supa cheap (40l tank, 200L/min) will cost under $1500 i reckon.
didnt realise you were using acrylic, even so, waiting that long between clearing is gonna give you some major issues. since you cant use prepsol to clean your basecoat your gonna have to use a wet rag with water and wipe the whole thing down and then tack it of, unfortunatley water doesnt remove wax, out of all the workshops ive been to ive never heard anyone wait so long using acrylic or 2k. also keep in mind acrylic clear coat dries dull not glossy, so your gonna have to cut back every single panel right to the edge then buff it up if you want it to look good. A supercheap compressor wont cut it for a proper clear coat process. clearing requires a nice constant amount of pressure, you can get away with pressure drops in base but not clear. Looks like its a decent job so far but in this day and age there really is no justification for using acrylic instead of 2k, acrylic hardners and reducers will kill ya just as quick as 2k ones. anyway enough blabbling cant wait to see the end result!
why cant you use wax and grease remover on the color?? iv done it before and havnt seen a bad side? il be sanding the clear with 2000 grit and that is a job on its own. the compressor im using is quite good at holding pressure. i reckon the clear will be sweet. you have to wet sand the shit out of it after it dries anyway so little pressure drops wont matter i reckon. then im gettin a pro to cut it back and detail. Andy (Michandy) did the same thing im going to do and his acrylic job turned out looking pro
