hey guys, got quoted around the 7k+ plus mark for a standard exterior respray sooooo im givin the home respray another go...another learning experience except this time i know what im doing. big thanks to Andy (Michandy) for all his advice of the method of the spray and extra tips.

Stripped the pig this friday for the sanding side of things and sanded for 12 hrs with a mate for all of saturday thanks to many-a red bull :D:D. Got most of the car sanded down but still got the rear bar, front bar, nose pannel and wing to do. primed the inside today and also fitted new skirts, will update as the weeks go by..... progress will slow down as i start on the exterior...

haha yeah i know what you mean but im powering on. just been keepin at it. wake up and keep sandin lol. got so many things to sand, putty up, alter etc, that everytime i get fed up with one thing i go onto another. i actually cant wait to spray, thats the best part!!! just sanding and prep is the most important, boring and time consuming part

    Yeah

Know exactly what you mean . I tell you what though, there's no better feeling than when you put the paint on and am able to say " I did that " :zlove:
Keep at it and take your time with the paint ;)

make sure u have a good compressor and you can power it away... but yes its a ghey job

also use paper not plastic unless its static plastic but even then :/

yeah all sorted... why not plastic?? its always worked good for me. i tape around with masking tape then tape the plastic to the tape. papers way harder? this drop sheet im using weighs next to nothin so its that easy to use

a problem you can have on plastic (it can still work) is that when the overspray lands on the plastic, as it bends and blows in the air from the gun those chunks of over spray can flake off and land back on your paint. Paper absorbs the overspray paint, plastic layers it

you can often have no drama but thats the reason why you see panel beaters use paper often

ah i see, yeah for the exterior i stretch the plastic out over the windows etc so it'l have minimal movement. not too fussed about the interior but yeah il take care with the plastic sheeting, cheers

you'll probably be fine just a useful tid-bit of information that if you ever have that problem you know why...

    nice colour :)

ill be following your progress. I plan to attempt my first respray late November early december.

Do you by any chance have a link to a thread, or pm you can forward on with these tips from Michandy?

Two quick questions, what kind of spraygun are you using? Also if I plan to paint it the same burgundy colour, how far back do I sand it? (considering when my bumper was resprayed the guy said the cars been repainted 5times, one on top of the other).

    update..... \

removed screws from sideskirts, puttied over holes then sanded

sikaflexed underside of rear wing that was coming appart, sand it down once dry (sandable sikaflex is great)

puttied up crack on lhs of wing, will sand when dry tomorrow

rear bar has been a pig, been sanding on and off for 3 days heaps of imperfections and im not yet happy with it

fibreglassed and fitted new front bar, side screw holes above indicators were very damaged. its only hanging there by the two front brackets and fits almost perfectly very happy.......now its time to sand it

hi mate going to be using a 50l 2.5 hp hire one from bunnings. 40 bucks a day aint bad as il only be usin it for a day at a time. Wish i had ur beast lol. Dont know where i could buy one like urs from do ya? As far as paint is concerned il sand the clear down with 2000 grit then get a pro to buff and detail
