    what happends to the carbon

I'm imagining chunks of carbon being dislodged and getting into the cylinders could potentialy damage the cylinder wall. Exacly how does the process work?

No, that upper engine clean stuff go's in the intakes, doesn't go through the fuel system.

Actually, let me clarify first, did they put it in the fuel tank or through a vacuum inlet on the manifold? If in the manifold it would clean the chambers, valves and inlet runners, but not the injectors.

dunno. Tenargah did it when i asked for a throttlebody clean (not knowing at the time how easy it was to DIY).

They instead said "we'll do this... blah blah made by suberu for the WRX's blah blah" so i think your right. Aimed at intake clean

i was trying to fix a bad flat spot at the time which turned out to be my O2's anyway

Nah no misunderstanding, I got what max meant.

Anyway Tom, if you are reading this, put me down for a carbon clean as well once you are offering them please.

what mods do u guys both have? im about 208kw at 10psi, so would like to see what a carbon clean would do for me

nice power gain just for a clean I wonder if anyone in S.A dose this ?

How dose this process work exactly ?

    Here's mine

    EDIT2:
    Sorry, forgot mods list.
    FMIC
    Single POD
2.5 inch Cat back (centre mufflers recently removed)
Stock boost (ie no controller....maybe boost jets we dont know yet)
.....and Turbos that supposily have been higflowed with T28 internals (all we know at the moment is, the housing is stock T25.......)
    Nothing esle.

176.5 rwKW BEFORE the clean and a fairly eratic power curve

I think for me, to see that curve smooth out so much after the clean is the biggest change and probably explains why car feels smoother through the range now.

As said, my boost seems to be coming on VERY late and slow, so leaks remain for sure. No real change in the before and after there.

HOWEVER....also note that before i got this car, the previouse owner presented a dyno sheet done in Brissy for 181 rwkw

I've had the car for a year and had been working through issues to IMPROVE the car, but somehow, its gone DOWN until the clean?

    hhmmmm...

    anyway, here it is
    [IMG]

    EDIT:
here's the sheet presented pre sale to me
    [IMG]

So ive developed a seriouse leak somewhere

    matty-Z zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

so your running about 11 psi or am i reading wrong?

  9. ugame

yeah tom said it peaked at about 10/11

on the guage in my car I see it hitting just under 10 when i give it some

most of the time it doesn't get that far due to coming on so late.

It doesn't really budge much past 0 until 3.5k rpm so i reakon 4k rpm is the earliest i hit 8/9/10 psi

Thanks for the input and feedback from everyone...

We've spent big $$$ on the machine and now offering the full carbon clean service for $249. I'm about to advertise the service in the for sale by business section, just waiting on the youtube footage to upload. :)

The price for the first 10 will be $199 as an introductory special, then the normal price of $249 will apply. I really would recommend this to EVERYONE with a Z! The price is nothing compared to the gains in performance and drivability/fuel economy. I was a little sceptical when I had the sales pitch however after seeing the results and learning how the machine operates, I'm all for it!

    Details up soon!

    To book, please phone 0438 843 467

Some details on how it works would be good for us sceptics

Old fart that has done carbon cleaning the "traditional way"....
pull the heads off and wire brush the carbon off

    or

flog the bejesus out of it :D
Which works a treat on my mum & dads car, oldies that tootle around in the big V8..... every few months it goes off and they bring it to me for a "tune up" which means flog the crap out of it for half an hour !!!!

so you lot with carbon issues must be driving like my parents ( who are in their mid 70's )

    pussies
    :p

Being 100% honest...I fang it around more than not hey. I think the carbon could still build in in the edges and all where it doesn't get blown away so well.

Or else it was the injectors but meh, much nicer now.

    Oh and mods I have:
    FMIC
    Underdrive pulley
Boost jets putting me at about 10 PSI from my sheet during peak power
Mines ECU (slightly advanced timing I believe, all the other stuff it does wouldn't affect the power too much)

And ugame, that's really late boost isn't it?

Tom, what revs was the boost coming on for me and ugame? And, why was mine dynoed in 2nd? Is that because I'm an auto and ugame is manual? I remember I usually had a dyno done in D with O/D off. Does gear selection change peak power at all?

  14. ugame

    ugame user #1

    yeah very late.

and note, mine was dynoed in 3rd (Tom) but in 4th under previouse ownership, so i'd also be intereted to know why sometimes its 1 gear, and sometimes another

but isn't 3rd (manual) the strongest gear?

  15. vbevan

    vbevan Active Member

I thought the aim was to dyno so the gear ratio was 1:1 to try to eliminate error related that?

  16. tom@pzp

    tom@pzp www.pzp.com.au

I like to dyno and tune in 4th gear as it's a 1:1 ratio however most forum members like to see the third gear results....

  17. ugame

    ugame user #1

.......so what kind of diference does gear selection make?

ie would 3vs4th gear generate a diferent curve and diferent top end?

  18. vbevan

    vbevan Active Member

And what does second gear do haha?

Why do people like to see the 3rd gear result? Because it's more realistic of what they'll have on the street or because it gives a bigger peak power number?

  19. ugame

    ugame user #1

2nd gear is there so my car can make boost before breaking the speed limit :D

lol ugame :D Fix your boost leaks bro!

IIRC I get around 10 psi at or before 3k rpm, and am at full boost (16psi) just before 4,500 rpm. Not exactly sure though, so will check tonight and post results ;):D

Anyway I'm booked in for carbon clean first thing monday morning, will post results once done :zlove:
