there are a couple of earth connectors at the back left middle and right top of the plenum near coil pack no 6. the car wont start if those arent connected.

I have 3 earth eyelets bolted to the back of the plenum atm. 2 right behind no6 and another closer to no5

Have you tried for spark on each coilpack

    yet?

PS: Also, have you checked the ignition relay and associated wiring are working? Might also be ECU related. Did you remove the ECU for any reason (could be the wiring plug not seated correctly) or could well be internal ECU failure.

If you want to test this theory, place key to ign and bridge the two closest female terminals under the ignition relay. This will give direct power to PTU ->Coilpacks etc instead of via ECU.

I have a spare ECU and a new S2 PTU you can try if required, but I haven't ever heard of a S2 dying.

Sorry if I appear insulting, but those connections

look really suspect. No offence, but that could be your prob:rolleyes:.

Why not solder them as a permanent solution? All the jiggling on the motor may eventually loosen those crimps and certainly any wires that may be just twisted together and held with electrical tape.

ALSO, doing those S2 PTU connections, I have experienced where one or more terminals gets pushed out the back of the plastic connector when connecting the plugs together thereby causing a continuity break(s).

Worth having a good look to ensure all the terminals are all 100% connected.

So the job on the 1st plug is suspect? Looks pretty clean to me.

There is a better pic of the 2nd plug. I have soldered every wire and put heat shrink over all the connections. The tape I put on was because some of the original wiring insulation shrunk when I put heat onto the heat shrink.

I did have a problem with the orange wire not seating and pushing back but I fixed that.

On the S2 PTU there are the numbers. 1,2,3,G,4,5,6 on the 7 Pin side and E1,E2,E3,E4,E5,E6 on the 6 pin side. Are the E1 (through to E6) pins meant to be connected to the ECU or to the coil packs?

I owe you an apology. On 1st glance

they looked like those cheapo crimp connectors. Upon closer look they look fine  Sorry!

E1 through E6 are connected to the ECU.

1,2----6 are connected to the coil packs.

The E terminal changes sides from series 1 to series 2.

The E terminal is on the ECU side in a series 1 so you pull the wire across to the other side and connect it on the coil pack side for a series 2.

Ahh thanks for that Tek. I have the plugs back to front then. The coils atm are connecting to the E terminals. So I'll have to switch them.

Are there any schematics that are relevant to the S2 PTU? I just want to make sure that I get it 100% right this time.

Thanks again Tek. The image for the schematic is broken but I'll drop Hyper a PM and see if he still has it.

Marc that same thread has a post in there with pics I took when you wire up for the S2 PTU plugs.

Seconded. I follwed 90TTZ's instructions for my S2 PTU with no dramas.

If you're wired it incorrectly it is possible that you have fried your S2 Ptu.

I guess when I rewire it, and it doesnt work I can either get another S2 or put my working S1 back in.

I found the pics Karl. I'll write down the combo's are rewire :)

Well I redid the wiring as per the s2 thread. And I believe I had it right already. But here is the wiring job I did. O and the 6 pin plug on my PTU which I was told in this thead goes to the coil packs, is connected to the E terminals, which I was told here that it goes to the ECU??

Anyway, can someone check my PTU and see if the S2 I have is the right one? I got it from ebay a while ago (It did work on my car). But does this look right? If so I might need to get another PTU to try cause I know I'm getting power to the coil packs as I forced a spark out of the plug. I know I'm getting the ECU signals to the PTU as I checked it with an LED and it flashed as I cranked it over. But I get nothing out of the other side of the PTU.

    Anyway the pics:

    PTU looks right to me.

In the first pic the orange wire looks a bit wierd where if goes into the plug... Is it just the angle?
