it doesnt matter if you changed it two weeks ago. you may have gotten the oil too hot. it is recommended you change it. better spending 80 bucks on some new oil rather than a few k to rebuild the engine. and seeing as how this is your only car, do you really want to risk it???

not 100% sure if you need to change the filter but i dont see why it would need replacing. as long as you drain it properly. i dont know if the 'hot oil' could damage the filter some how but i would assume they are built to handle some pretty high temps....:)

cooool i guess ill drain it, fill it with fresh oil, shake-n-bake..minus the bake.. re-drain it then install.

    lucky dude :)

Good stuff on finding the coil plug :)
Buy a new one and get it fitted so she doesn't come off again LOL!
(obviously have a look for others that are broken/damaged & replace them as well)

You will not the video is only around 90 seconds long, this was long enough for the temp to be dangerously high.
The exh manifolds are glowing red hot, water temp is up through the roof, rear brake rotors were blue - not how you should treat a car that you need to get to work aye LOL!

Still this is my toy & I know how to fix her.
Interesting to note that of all the cars involved in the display that weekend this zed was the only Jap car AND the only one not to break in some way

    5w - 40 sounds about right.

check out what other zeds use around that area... its not a good idea to ask us what oil to use montreal is a bit colder than here.

removing battery wire dosnt completely reset ecu, ive done it numerous times when i have been too lazy to get out the lap top and error codes are always still there.

as for overheating the engine, highly doubt it, the 300zx cooling system is more then capable of taking it, as long as it is maintained correctly.

    most possible causes

engine torqeing from the rev bounce unsettled a coil pack connector or maybe even a injector connector, or some other form of wiring, cas, afm, det sensor, lots of things to check, make sure all your connectors arnt green and dirty

also car could be running in safety maps, which would more then likely be caused by error codes caused by bad circuits, all from the above mentioned, from experience running in safety maps makes the car run like shit, mine fouls the plugs really fast when it does, which makes it hesitate alot, especially when your cruising, then seems to fix it self when you nail it, i think this is just because of crappy tune in safety maps and over fueling possibly? but im not all too experienced with tuning

my advice, is that you get a conzult cable and nissan datascan, you can buy the program cheap or get a free version which has limited options, but enough to get you by

300zx's seem to have really bad wiring and sensors and connectors, most of the ones i have seen all suffer from it, i think mainly because of age and excessive heat build up in the engine bay because of how cramped it is, most problems you encounted will be electrical/wiring imho so yeh best advice, lap top and datascan ^_^, and dont be scared its very easy to use

how long did you leave it disconnected for? to reset ecu this way it needs to be disconnected overnight....

    After

4 minutes blazing the tyres, Im sure the engine was hot dam hot, you could have blown a head gasket dude, or worse. Pull the plugs see what they look like, they may be damaged, if your luckly.

Not true, reset with paper clip is my preferred method.

you can reset with paperclip? I thought that was to bring up the error code...

the magic of the paper clip...might even solve world hunger and global warming.

A paperclip, an elastic band, some cable ties and some duct tape is all you need to create a fully operational M16 assualt rifle...I saw it on McGuyver.

You will notice. Even if you reset with the PC. If the error isnt fixed, as soon as you turn the car back on it shows the same error code again.

I would think if you pulled the power to clear errors and memory. In the time it takes you to read the error codes again they have reoccured and will show up.

EG: code 34 det sensor shows as cleared and 55 for about 1/2 second after ECU reset. Then comes flashes back up as a code 34 again as you watch it.

Pulling the power for a time DOES kill all error codes as the ECU doesnt NOT have any persistant memory when the power is off.
