1st things first, its quite a long post:
hi guys, i'm new to the 300zx world, just bought a 90 jap import 2+2 turbo about 3months ago which has been running like a champ taking abuse here and there and have been reading up as much as i can mainly here @ aus300zx which i found to be the best z site honestly not trying to kiss ass or anything anyways.

i am not a mechanic and have very limited mechanical experience or even knowledge with cars, i have the habit of buying trashing then scraping so forgive me if my description is a little vague of what happened but here goes.

i entered a lot, did a bunch of donuts and figure 8s (~2min,5sec pause, ~2moremins then leave). i wasn't starring at the rev counter but i was in 1st gear playing with the throttle at somewhat high revs but never bouncing off limiter. car is 100% stock btw, down to the sound "system", except for test pipes and 3" single k&n pod.

anyways as i was leaving since i thought i might have seen flashing lights approaching from far, i floored it and right about 4-5000 rpm, car felt like it had nothing left to give so shifted to 2nd, again about 4-5000rpm felt like nothing left, then shifted to 3rd, zigzagged my way out of the scene and limped her home at roughly 2k rpm max and extremely light throttle in 1st or 2nd at about 20-40kmh while on a 10min journey home then shut her off. started her again, ran the same exact way so shut her right back off.

by the same way i mean at about 2500rpm extremely light load, it stutters like it's gonna stall or like it's a 30hp motor, at 1200rpm light load, it hesitates like it's misfiring, but in neutral, it still hesitates but not nearly as much in fact past 3000rpm it even starts to feel perfectly balanced - i didn't bring it higher than 3500 in neutral-. oil pressure gauge, which i know isn't very reliable was reading almost 0 the whole drive back (a little lower than usual). Anywayyys. its my only car, and my only lady and love, and i couldn't even afford her to begin with i was like 140$ short after negotiating her down as low as she went and still won her over and now im about to cry. :sorry:well im tearing thats for sure. i have work in 3 hours no point in sleeping and i dont think i should be driving her i guess, please help her out ill do whatever it takes. i was hoping it could be an electrical issue or another running on 5 thread or something but i have a very bad feeling i broke her bad. lets please start on whether i can drive her to work in 3hrs, and we'll take it from there. thank you for your assistance.

have you had a look under the bonnet....might have blown a hose off.....check all electrical connectors....if you cant find anything right away dont drive it till you do

start with the basics. chuck it on conzult check for any errors. check all your coil pack connectors are properly pushed in. check all other connections, tpu, cas, etc.... just go over the car quickly. check all values in conzult are correct eg tps setting etc....do a vac leak test.

    start somewhere

Sounds bad... Get a compression check done. Also run diagnostics and see if any error codes come up. Hopefully it's something harmless like a dropped coilpack or injector.

    PS

Hope you have your flame suit on...

Check all the rubber hoses in the engine bay are plugged it.

    Save you money.

    Take it to a mechanic.

300zxclub has a canada section. someone might be able to look at it for you from there. had you been in aus im sure someone from here would have given u a hand.

as per previous debarcle...maybe its legal to do donuts in a car park in canada....

    GOATSE? <<< DO NOT GOOGLE<<<<

but yea, i have been having a similar problem where it would be sluggish and not rev under load untill it hit about 3k rpm then bulleted off, have found it to be timing, check that your cas hasnt moved :p

(insert a rank about stupid activities etc - especially this being your only car :bash: )

    BUT
I found while performing LEGAL burnout displays in a controlled environment with safety crew etc ( :bash: ) that after around three minutes you would most likely be starting to over temp the engine. (IE: the engine is hotter than normal running temp but not necessarily boiling the water)

This is based on the gauge on the dash showing high temp and the oil pressure dropping. You would find the temps would be climbing up fairly high sooner than this if you were to hook up to after market instruments.

Along with temp comes ..... well a whole lot of bad shite!

Follow the advice from the forum MOST of them know what they are on about.

I can tell ya know four minutes of doughnuts in a stock TTZ32 is waaaaay pushing your luck and asking for something to break sooner or later.

yeah well it was a deserted industrial car lot, after hours, no car or person in sight, but anyways i just checked the hoses quickly, everything seems to be plugged in, im going to go check the electrical connections now, i checked the oil level was fine, decided to start her see how she runs, and i guess it's good news, she's still sluggish and iddling a little odd but no more anemic 2500rpm behavior, i just drove her under a street light and back, i'm going to drive her back now for electricals. oh and oil pressure is a little above 0 now. thanks for the help all, and flame all you want i dont care.

Wasn't the 2500rpm limit cause of an AFM problem?

i realized this now but at the time, it didnt really feel like 4 min, passenger said thats how long it was about. and i will never push that long again, assuming i am given the opportunity to have a say in the matter vs a whole lot of repairs i cant afford and i am aware its the result of my stupid actions and take full blame. anyways ill be back in a few after checking electrical connections.

ok, first thank you thank you thank you thank all of you 100 times..
one of the coil pack connectors was a little loose, i pushed it in and uhhhm yeah...
it seems as all symptoms are gone, thaaaank you again. i cruised her up and down the service road to try to cool her down. coolant level is fine, oil pressure is slowly dropping.

what should i do now to undue/recover some of the damage i may have caused her while overheating?

consult?.. i have no access to that, in fact i have been looking with no success for a 300zx specialist in montreal... i know you guys are in australia but anyways. THANK YOU once again.

If it did in fact get too hot, then change your oil as soon as you can.

Glad it was a simple fix :D

change the oil for starters, heating it to extreme temps means that it will lose some of its lubricating properties..

Chrispy you beat me to it! :p

I think a loose coilpack connector would do what you described. Running on 5 cylinders would make it run rough as and it would feel like it had no power and all. If you did damage you can't undo it, but it sounds ok. Just remove one battery wire for 30 mins to reset the ECU, since it's learns and I'm not sure it had a good lesson just now :p
