Yes and these forum kits are $100 +++
This is my whole point with this thread - we don't need some special H3C 300ZX HID system that costs more than double. Just a simple H3 set off ebay work fine.

I'm looking out for the forum members by finding them with a lesser cost product.

This thread is to show other members about my HID setup.

I just took some pics and will upload in a minute or so.

Ok guys here are some pics:

In this first photo you can see the 2 ballasts peeking out from under the nose panel. I suppose you could cover this or something if you were worried about police attention:

Here is the ballasts under the nose panel:
Please excuse the dirt etc and the vacuum tubing for EBC.

Here is a pic of what the wiring looks like to the headlight. Hardly noticeable really. You could tape up the red wires and you wouldnt even know that there were HIDs there.

HID's turned on. Now this first pic is just after I switched them on. They have a blue tinge which goes away after a few seconds.

This photo was taken about 10 - 15 secs later and you can see the blue dissappears into a white light:

And finally this is a close up of the HIDs on
    [IMG]

In terms of ballast placement: I wanted to actually use the supplied brackets to mount them in some of the spare holes left by the factory airfilter. However the high tension ballast cable isnt very long so I wasnt able to do so. All HID ballasts appear to have a fairly short high tension lead. I suppose this would be for 2 reasons: 1. perhaps the amplified power or something dissapates if you had a long cable and 2. most cars have enough room to mount the ballasts next to the headlights.

Either way tho: with a little bit of fiddling it worked out alright.

No night time pics yet. To be honest you really cant give them justice on a camera at night. There are lots of photos on the comparing HID to halogen etc. You'll just have to take my word for it that they are heaps better.

Congratulations on your purchase and the fact that you paid so little for them.
Your Hid kit is nothing unusual or original as many members have had these kits fitted for years.
The local ones sold through this forum are H3 for low or H1 for high beem, not H3c.
Chili does make a point with regards to suporting members, particually Australian (Sydney)
ones and help keep an Australian employed, for the sake of a fist full of dollars?

Yes I know there is nothing unusual about my HID kit. Thats why I cant justify spending over $100 for a kit that is exactly the same.

I don't know about you, but I would rather have $70 extra in MY pocket than some forum member's pocket. The ppl who sell HIDs on the forum are running a business. They are not running a charity so there is no reason to treat them as if they are.

Anyway like I said b4 if u want a debate about whether to buy off the forum or cheap off ebay then start a new topic.

This thread is to show members that they dont need to buy 300ZX specific kits or anything like that.

About to buy these right now, same types as you got Blue. For Bulb size, do I just say H3?

On my current bulbs, they say H3C. Whats the C mean?

*Edit* I think I figured it out. The H3C have the 2 metal 'pins' coming out the back. The H3 have 1 female connecter wire coming out the back.

I paid $100 for the ones on the convertible 12 months ago. No problems at all, work great.

I also have another set I paid $75 waiting to go into the Silver car.

As far as I'm concerned, there is no difference between the $70 ones and the $135 ones. If there is a difference in quality, it is up to the sellers of the more expensive ones to explain why.

Besides, I have seen numerous posts about faulty ballasts being replaced by Banksid. It may be a bit easier as he is local, but for only $5 more, you can buy 2 complete sets.

Over the last 12 months the average price on HID's have dropped drastically. Most of them are around $75 now. $135 a year ago was a reasonable price, today it is not.

It would be nice if there was a real indicator to quality. Price may be an indicator, but seldom is the most expensive the best.

Yeh mate you are right. The H3 HID's have 2 wires coming out of the back just like a H3C.

Just one question..I thought I remember reading somewhere that if the globe is more then 6000k in intensity it was illegal? Could someone refresh my memory..cause I'm interested in getting some..

Yeh I've read that before too. Doesnt seem to stop ppl from doing it though.

Personally i chose 4300k as it is supposed to provide the best light. When you go higher u get that blue tinge etc but the light quality is actually reduced. Apparently BMW etc use 4300k. So that colour must be street legal.

I went for 6000k, even that little drop in light quality is still FAR better than the crappy lights I got atm... and besides I like the dimond white look :D

    Here we go again...

Back on topic, there are some sellers out there marketing HID kits as 50-55W systems, while many others don't state a wattage. Do we need to use one that has a similar wattage rating as the Z32's lighting, or does the ballast sort all those voltage conversion issues for us?

The HIDs I bought are 35watt. But they put out heaps of light. HIDs are more efficient and dont require as much wattage as a halogen light.

The 55w ones should only be used for high beam. If you used them on low beams they would be way to bright and blind ppl.

Just for clarification for ppl: the HIDs that I got from ebay are the standard 35watt. You have to specifically request 55w to get them.

No need for voltage conversion etc. The ballast does it all.
35w are the best for the normal headlights. They put out heaps more light than a 55w halogen.

    35? 55?

so the 35ones should only be used for low beams and 55 for the high beams??? so u have to tell the ebay guy lol that you want either the 35 or 55? is that how it works? sorry for the q's :p i take it there watter resistant as well?
