It looks amazing :) Keep up the good work!

Will it be kept at 2 tone scheme or ya planning on stealthing the whole lot?

If you look at all my posts that are left aligned they have titles with the pieces i have done. I have done the whole bonnet yes.

I planned on keeping it 2 tone until i had a front bar the i was going to do it all. I think im just going to continue along at a snails pace starting from the back and working forward.

Monday is the day iv set out to do this particular rear bumper part.

    :)

    cheers,

Here :) At "the best rim repair shop in the country", where they've been doing it for ~7 years.

Murci I'm starting to wonder; how are you going to do things like the fenders, doors and side skirts? Going to pull the car apart? And things like the sides of the engine bay which you can see with the hood down, and inside of the doors?

Must be sweet to not have to worry about matching paint with bodykit parts... it just arrives in the post, you wrap it, and put it on yourself. too freakin' easy. going gReddy?

    brokey link:p

Fenders wont be any harder than the bonnet i think. its just a matter of heat and stretch and they are fairly skinny (no point is too far from an edge).

door will be alright, unsure about door handles havn't had a look. skirts are long and skinny so same again.

Im not looking forward to the lower part of the rear bar and also the front bar (whichever i get) as there is some huge curves there.

and yea no extra painting costs for body parts is good :)

    Upper Rear Bar

Im calling it the Upper Rear Bar as that is as descriptive as i can get about this particular panel.

On a side note, when i showed a proper vinyl guy my car he told me this section was going to be the hardest...he was right. took me a good 3 hours from Go to Yo.

So i started this afternoon at about 4.30 getting ready by washing that section, backing it into the garage, finding proper lighting. Collected the tools and did a rough string measure of the surface and the other measurements.

Prepped the surface with metho and removed the reflectors.

Started from the middle and worked the left side first.

*Insert 2 hours of swear words and head scratching*
This is because the curves were absolutely ridiculous, the part where it goes from the rear of the car to the side. On one side i ended up making a seam("is disappoint") Its not noticeable at all unless you get up close and personal with it.

Ragged edges and ready to be trimmed.

Trim stage(no i didn't leave the bottom like that) I heat it up and push it under then re-trim it again very accurately.

Almost finished + a big pile mess :D
    [IMG]

The other side, looks pretty good.

Little bit of a 1,2,3 thing here. Definitely my favorite part, puncturing the tight vinyl and pressing it inwards. Really clean result and easy to do.
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

    All finished and tidy.

Came out pretty good considering, a few 'not so perfect' spots but that's ok for now, they arn't major. For 20 bucks i can always go back and do a panel or 2 so im not too worried.

Thanks for reading again guys and feel free to ask questions or praise/criticism along the way, im open to anything :) Excuse the bad pictures/bad lighting.

Either tomorrow or Wednesday ill try to do the next part (the bit above it).

Also ill ask that no one quotes my original post if possible, i like this clean format i have going.

    until next time...

Nice work again Matt...slowly coming together...looking forward to the Z version of this look :D

I'm glad the sikaflex worked well for you with the infil, looks very neat.

Just wondering if you could put some pics up of the seam on the rear bar and the one for the rear wiped? Just interested to see how noticeable it is.

    Cheers,

    Craig

Yea ill gets some pics and send them. Im a tad on the perfectionist side so i definitely want to redo them..or if worst comes to worst pay someone to do just the one panel..cant be that expensive. I know i can do the hatch easy..the bumper is the tricky one.

Always figured you'd be taking the rear bar off. Huh.

Wondering about the anti-stone chip dimpling stuff on the underside of the rear bar and skirts. Right now I'm sanding back an Aus-spec rear to get rid of that exact uneven junk (turning out well but a ****load of effort ), but wrapping it in vinyl would be difficult wouldn't it? or can you heat it then use something soft to push it in to all the gaps?

    that is sweet!

Hey Anti, cheers for keeping up and a posting up all the questions:)

The stone guard paint is not a worry for me. Iv put little pieces of vinyl on it to see what its like and its fine. I goes on easy with the soft felt tool and just like paint it shows every little thing through it so you know its getting right down in between the bumps. I need to clean up the dirt from them though when i removed the mudguards.

Iv actually decided to do this bit next after looking at the pics, it just seems easier.

Waiting to hear back from ztoy about one of his front bars as an option.(which is next on my list of things other than vinyl)

Ill save rims until iv finished all the vinyl..just wouldn't be right doing them before.

So i plan on speeding up the process now, i predict a few weeks til im done or up to the front bar.

    cheers,
    matt

been working on the back bumper all arvo until i ran out of light. Only got about half done before it got too dark to see the wrinkles :p

ill finish it off mid tomorrow and get some more pics up, its starting to come together now, almost at the point of more black than silver so im getting a tad excited. :D

    Lower Rear Bar

This part took me a few hours last night and a few this morning (really starting to hate odd shaped curves).

Basic plan was to do both sides separate and put the joins under the numberplate and in the edges to they are fully hidden.

Before i start...many of these were eaten during this panel and it they acted as bursts of happiness during the flood of not so happy events. (coke bottles if you couldn't pick it)

Started off with some cleaning and then prepped with metho again.
    (Dirt from mud Guards)

Cutting up the vinyl. You can see the roll it came on and how messy my room is :(
    [IMG]

Lightly tacted it on and then worked from the middle out. This plan seemed to work alright. If i had started from one side the flat sheet bending around all the curves would have thrown it so out of shape it would have missed altogether.

Closeup there for you anti, the vinyl will follow anything on the surface (even very faint scratches in the right light on the right angle very very close up..lol)

Trimmed up but leaving the line exposed.

This is how i finished it at the numberplate area.

This morning i started the right side.

    Ready to be trimmed.

    Closer shot.

Super heating it and sticking it right into those curves. Also covered up the exposed triangle thing (temporary)

This is on the top of the lower part where the line separator thing is. On the right of the pic is a brown thing, that's the squeegee pressing it down into the groove.

    You can see the difference.

I have a plan for this little strip and ill post it up later when i get around to it.

In the right light the black looks stunning.

Excuse the dirt, dust and fingerprints.

    Pre numberplate
    [IMG]

    Post numberplate
    [IMG]

    Gave it a little wash.

shammied it down and backed it into the garage again.

Clean and perfect..just how i like it :)

So thats it for today, was a big one. Sorry for the 20 odd pics, i figured the more the better.

Unsure of when ill be doing the next panel, im really worn out right now..the fingers are aching something fierce.

Im starting to picture the finished thing in my head...and im loving that picture :D

thanks for viewing again guys, any queries/comments/suggestions or any of that feel free.

    until next time....

If only your car was white you could finish of the side skirts and have a similar paint scheme to the GT-APEX AE86 I love those cars :)
