LOL a supra thread.
Some wank job in my street has one,
hurts my feelings each day i have to look at it.
Them toyota built junk piles move no quicker than a fat kid in a billy cart flinstoning it on an uphill slope.
Just hate their ass end, to me looks like a big rice bubble,
Uglier than the ace of spades.
Owners of them must have screws loose ...
Everyone knows only hot asians girls drive them

 

I got a zed because it wasnt on fast and furious, and everyone told me how horribly unreliable and overweight it is, and because its a 2+0 manual tt with surprisingly great boot space.

And i could afford it lol

since its such a supra vs zed thread... I have a stockish tt, with recircs so no flutter or bov whistle. Had a fully sik p-plater in his NA supra try to show me up with his gf in the passenger seat. Boy, was he shattered... lol everyone is so used to "turbo noises" i love catching them off guard!

 

not sure if i missed something here but you do realise the 300zx from '83 - '00 include the z31 and z32 which are different..

 

i used to own a mrk 3 supra. damn it was a nice car. had so much fun in it. sold it to my dad, then a dumb ass cop in a 4x4 backed into it and wrote it off :'(

 

No falcons are meh.. 300zx was voted one of the top 10 greatest cars of all time 6yrs in a row. Its just you that has no sense of style or taste.

Supras front end is ugly and boring, interior is all plastic and ugly too. Good engine, nice rear but for 20k unless your going to bother spending another huge amount of money on upgrades then they aren't worth it imo, as cheaper cars for 10k once you spend another 10k on them equal to the supras market value you have a 300rwkw or more beast.

The point is a supra may be easy to work on ect but they arent a cheap starting point to begin with.

There is a reason they chose the mark 4 for fast and furious and the zed is the most unbeknown movie cars. Its been voted one of the top 10 cars because of its performance not its looks you tool

True but on the same token it's not the zeds fault that it didn't retain value as well. The way I see it the main factors for the price difference are:
1)z32's apparently being unreliable
2)2 series of z's (z33/z34) being released after it whereas Toyota stopped at mkIV
3)F&F tax for the Supra

You really can't blame the zed on 2/3. 1 is generally caused due to poor maintenance or more often than not someone deciding to push the car to an unreasonable power level with little or no supporting mods. We can all agree that a Supra engine is easier to work on and more bullet proof than zed's - but imo the apparent "unreliability" stereotype for zed's is more an ignorance problem amongst the greater community than it is flaws within the engine bay...

On that tho, I'm pretty sure the story of F&F was based on a black z32 TT in Japan absolutely tearing it up at the drags. Think it's a bit unfair they decided to back the Supra in the movie

 

Now thats an interesting bit of Trivia, might have to do some digging around to find more info on that gem. I can see why they picked the mark 4 though, its just a more wanky car in looks than the 300zx.

Cheers for catching me on that, I just copy&pasted the 300zx timeline from wikipedia. Interesting they were both called the 300zx.

On a completely unrelated note, does the single turbo exhaust manifold from the z31 match up to the z32 ?

Yes it was a black TT, I'm rather glad they didn't. Unless you want every kid around driving one with stickers all over it.

BTW to Mem, I and many others here own more than one car and have no trouble admitting there's better out there, that was never an issue or the point of this thread, your just making assumptions based on nothing. Frankly its making you seem quite uneducated. In fact there's been posts by members here who own both and think the supra is better.... you tool.

Yes, the zed has reputation for turning onto a fireball - I have seen 3 on fire on the side of the freeway living in Perth these past 5 years, 1 was a mate from work. People really should replace those bloody fuel hoses when you start smelling fuel. other 2 points damn good points.

 

The 300 relates to the engine capacity (3 litre). same goes for 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, 350Z, 370Z, and many other Nissan/Datsun vehicles. Just so happens that 2 models (Z31 and Z32) have the same capacity engine.
What I find interesting with Ford Falcons and Holden Commodores from their respective performance vehicle devisions is that years ago they used to have the engine capacity on their badging (ie. 4.9, 5.0, 5.8, or GT351, SLR5000 etc) but gradually changed to show the power output (Boss 290, GTS 317 etc).

Moving on, I was after a supra originally always liked the tail lights and rear wing. Called around but 14k for a rusted out example seemed overpriced when compared to other 1990's sports cars for a similar price range. Then 20 or so thousand buys a nice supra but its still totally stock and not a targa top. I bought my Z for 9k and by the time I've spent 11k on mods I'll expect to have at least 300rwkr, point being in the zeds case due to market value imo makes it a better deal value wise if your chasing high hp but its all relative to how much you want to spend.

Not my cup of tea, if you want a high rever checkout the 83 race spec corolla motor - they got it up to 21'000rpm in the end until they got restricted to 11'000rpm. I doubt you would want that as daily driver though, constant engine rebuilds would get old quick.

 

21,000 rpm is insane! I bet they weren't making over 600hp though

 

Wish I could read Japanese , my Friend is Japanese but cars just arent his thing (fashion is *sigh*) so he isnt likely to go hunting the Jap side of the internet for me either
