Disasterpiece, let it go man, ignorance is bliss...

 There is nothing to prove here. It's all been proven before on the drag strip by people much more qualified than members posting of this thread myself included. Lets pretend the Supra is King and move on mate.

    A little bit correct :p

It was a beasty 300ZX TT. It was New York, not Japan. And a Mistubishi Starion, not a Supra. ;)

    Clicky!

I think Supra's look great, I couldn't afford one so got a Zed instead...

And 2J's are tougher and handle power way better than VG's. No two ways about it. Have a look at the stuff that Gas Motorsports and Titan are doing with them, plenty out there pushing 1500hp+ out of them.

What can we take from that for real world usage tho? I agree the 2jz is a great engine and stock injectors being around 555 is fantastic but currently for a clean unmolested supra your looking at around $22k and that wont be making 1500hp :p

A clean unmolested Zed can be had for $9.5k this doesn't make it the better car of the two obviously but if your after usable street power you've already saved around 10 thousand dollars which is an engine rebuild with high flow turbos and injectors ect. Both can handle big power say 600hp which is a realistic goal :p

They're both good cars I wanted a supra too until I saw the market value for a stock turbo.

imo a cars performance is ultimately up to the driver. U just gotta see 1 Top Gear episode for evidence of that.
Call me shallow, but i bought my Zed cause it looks fast just sitting in the drive! That and i didnt have to get an aftermarket kit to make the body look half decent! All ive got is a trust front bar (now cracked doh) deleted tt spoiler and factory mud flaps front n rear. A stock supra ,I think, has the body of a jellybean on steroids.

A quick search on the net and this is what I found...

    Thread: http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic9898.htm

This information is from another post but it's common knowledge nowadays.
Not as detailed an explanation as what I have read before but the essentials are there. Also the Supra Turbo in stock trim runs higher boost than the Z. I believe the Supra runs 13lb. Now make the Z run 13lb and put both on the strip and see who wins. I know that on 13lb a Z hammers.

I also like the Supra, to me it comes down to personnal taste in the looks dept. Mechanically wise I honestly don't care because both of these can be modified to ridiculous levels if the money is there. Power that is way too excessive and unnecessary.

    Anyway, info below.

I have driven both of these cars, I work at a toyota dealer and my best friend drives a z32 w/ JDM vg30dett swap. The engines have about the same power potential it's just more common to see a 2jz built to the higher end of the spectrum but it's fact that the fastest Z will destroy the fastest supras on the drag strip(escort engine service z32/Titan motorsports supra drag car) and road coarses, nissans most succesfull race cars were powered by vg30's such as the three time IMSA gt Champ NPT-90 and the GTP-ZXT. The VG30 is also a more advanced powerplant implimenting vvt long before it was available on a JZ motor and due to its over square design as apposed to the 2jz's square design it is much happier at high RPM's. The biggest player in terms of performance difference though is the Chassis/Suspension design. The Z is superior to Supra in Terms of Handling(agility) and ability to put the power these vehicles are capable of when modified to the ground, check your local drag strip to witness 600hp Z's smoking 800hp Supras. There is truth to all the jokes you hear about 1200hp supras not running even elevens, this and more comming from a supra fan who is willing to be honest rather than indulge in automotive elitism.

The main reason they havent held their value here in Australia.

Is the damn Jap importers brought in so many dodgy 15 year imports after the hammer fell. AND that the majority of these cars where in fact SHITE.

It was a total racket with forged dates on so many sale documents signed after the close off date just to HAVE THEM for import.

They managed to bring every POS dead beat z32 that was on auction in 2005 regardless of whether it should have been broken up for parts or flogged off.

We are now living the problem of deflated value thanks to these bastards.

MMM Starion, my mate has a race spec 1 sitting in his front yard. Unlicensed atm :(

I do it for the lulz :D:D:D

Cheers for the thread - interesting read.

Id like to point out though, dyno queens != drag monsters, so yes you will quite often see lesser HP beat a monster due the very narrow band the monster power has been developed at. It reads as a very informed opinion, but alas that is all it is "an opinion". For the ultimate showdown I say we all goad TRD & NISMO into an all out duel on the 1/4 mile and on the dyno - no limits to modifications. Any takers ?

id imagin a high hp 1000hp car would be crap in a drag situation because it would take so long to come on power from lag and when it does come on power its so voilent that the wheels just lose traction.

we should get in contact with the supra club and have a drag or track day and settle this for good!

There were a couple of turbo 2JZ drag motors running at WSID a few weeks back and they didn't seem to have a problem running 7.xx passes

yeh but were they street supras with street tyres? im just thinkin in terms of a full street supra with that kind of power. I just would of though any turbo car with that sort of power that is a street car would be good for nothing but a dyno run.

Ha yes that I agree with definitely. 1000HP is not much use on the street!

Im going to go against this forum here.
My mate's gf has a supra. 6spd man, tt. Took me for a drive the other day and I have no doubt it's faster than my z. Same mods to both cars eg. fmic, boost, pod, zorst-usual bolt ons. It was stepping out in third in the dry. Now, my z's an automatic, but I don't see how a manual can make that much difference.

    Now,
I didn't buy a z because it is the fastest, nor the best bang for buck, or for reliability. I bought one because it was the car I really wanted. Ask yourselves: why did you buy your z?

    it's so purdy

    and the rest

but realistically, if the 300zx was a looked like (insert: fugly car) this forum/cult following wouldn't exist
