Yeah true. I dunno whether I should touch it just yet just in case the insurance company wants to have a look?

Hope they can fix it. Wont stand for anything substandard tho. :) Seeya a bit later on today dude!

Keep it under $4500? The quotes you mean? Why is that out of curiousity?

Yeah I assume they can fix it with some panel beating, but that means bog too :( I would want the panel replaced instead... Essentially, I'd like the car back in the same condition as before the crash ie: no nasty bog. :p

Replacing that qtr panel I'd assume they would have to replace the rear quarter window too. $600 from Nissan aus... :(

From what I've heard recently, if Chris says this ^^ , then I'd start making plans to get her fixed! :)

OK, so just called my insurance company. I'm insured through them for 10K. (Shannons). Essentially, if the other parties insurance company would like to write the car off, they can match that figure.

I have priced up bits which would need to be replaced in the event of a repair:

Rear bumper - $800 Nissan Aus
    Rear apron - $600 Bomex
    2k Tails - $700 Nissan Aus
Rear Infil - $350 Nissan Aus
Qtr panel - $700 Nissan Aus

Approx 3k without labour, paint, fitting etc.

    Hmmmm....

yeah over 5000 they start looking at writing it off because its easier and no chance of it falling back on them if something else goes wrong with repairs .

I'd be interested into the procedure of writing-off cars.
After they've been written off is it normal for them to offer you buying back the wreck?

If so wouldn't that be the optimal decision?

Or are they holes? do they sometimes NOT offer you to buy back wreck?
    Just curious.

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

Why risk it with Nissan parts? You could easily pick up a new rear bar for $50, a whole chassis for the quarter panel for $10, etc... keeps your chances of them writing it off lower?

Its hard to tell but your pics look like the gap on the door is out as well, if so the car will need to be more than just the quarter replaced, oddly enough I have just finished an almost identical job on a mazda 6. So quick answer is yes it is repairable honest answer is I am pretty sure they will write it off. buy back depends on the insurance company, but I am pretty sure shannons will let you, they let us buy back our commodore, the down side is getting it over the pits after the repair, your cost will be more than just the repairs its also all the bits required to get it over the pits. I have however seen your Garage and maybe that is not as bad as I think. I do wish I was down there at times like this I would be more than happy to help with repairs. Best of luck Jamie.

yeah we had ours rear ended as well bought the wreck for about $1500 repaired it with porta power, there was no actual damage to the suspension checked on a jig but the boot floor was shortened still raced it for about three years but the hit on the exhaust transfered all the way to the turbo and unsealed a gasket. I think you have to cut the whole back off to fix it right, major effort and insurance wont pay unless your agreed value is above about 15K

Wow man that really sucks aye. I'm happy to lend a hand if you are gonna do a swap over. Shouldn't be that hard with a couple of people?

Get it written off as a repairable write off, get you 10k and buy back the wreck then either A. Fix it or B. swap the gear over to another z. Surely you would end up on top? Minus the stuff around of course.

Sucks to see mate... my jaw dropped when i opened the thread! :( poor z

yeah but i wouldnt bother repairing to be be honest... if you look at it objectively its not a custom colour or full moulded in kit or body wise anything special... all parts are bolt on that you would want to keep, thus best thing to do is get payout + car back, new shell, swap over.. yes its a pain ive done it myself you know this lol... but end of the day you will profit from it + not have a zed thats been in a crash

To be honest, you're making that way more expensive than it needs to be. Find a wrecker with a z32 lying around, scavenge the rear bumper, quarter panel and whatever else you can find off it for a fraction of the price. That's really no better or worse than buying straight from Nissan, given that they need to be painted anyway. Unsure if you can supply parts yourself in an insurance job, haven't been in that situation yet, but there's no reason to buy everything new. Could even pick up a mechanically defunct TT as a parts car, always useful to have for mechanical repair and it'll cover most of what you need.

man they wont do that... if you say "if u cant match it, respray they whole car" they say "here is the 7k market value, sod off....

Sadly thats how these things work....

I'll put $20 down to say it wont be repaired.
