I think you will find TTZ will be ordering these gearboxes via a Nissan Australia dealer, but they will still be shipped by sea from Japan. Whilst Nissan might have a list price, for a particular shipment of 5 gearboxes at the price we are looking at, TTZ's margin will be cut to the bone and prices will be subject to whatever the prevailing fx rate is at the time of order.

I doubt very much that these are being pulled from Nissan Australia's stock.

Spot on Mikey, They buy them from Nissan Japan in Yen.

Hence exchange rate will definitely be a factor. This is what prompted my previous post about them being approx 3K.

We have a better YEN excahnge rate now, than we did back when this was started. Therefore the price should be cheaper than $2600 previously discussed not dearer.

If it turns out it will be 3K from TTZ, then I will buy from Coz as there will be many hundreds of dollars saving.

Yer I hate to say it...

But may be cheaper to get from CZP.

    http://www.conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=813&Car_Type=NIS300&UID=

At US$1850 for the box, even if it cost US$500 to ship it'd still be around the AUD$2500 mark which is better off.

I think your best bet would be to chase up CZP and see what he can do. Shipping a few at once to help cut down costs, if it'd help at all may be cheaper just to ship individually depends how many per state.

That definitely may be true, but dont forget about import taxes, 25% duty and 10% GST roughly...as these are WELL over teh $1000 limit Id imagine we'd all get stung with the added costs, which has been included in the first post...dont get my wrong, Im all for bringing the costs down!

Where did you get the 25% number from?

The rate is 15% on base cost, plus 10% GST on landed cost (i.e. base cost +duty + freight), and for a non business addressee the chances of having to pay this duty are even money. Now that we have a Free Trade Agreement with the USA, the chances of getting hit for the duty are even smaller.

The negotiatiions for a FTA with Japan have been going on for ever, so I expect an import from there (viz TTZ) is almost certain to get tagged with the duty.

Unless we get a great price from Simon, if I decide to get one I am inclined to go with the ever reliable Coz.

I would advise only buying from Coz if the deal was still more attractive after allowing for 10% GST and 10% duty.

    http://www.customs.gov.au/webdata/resources/tariff/chapter87goods_b.pdf

Scroll down to page 4. I'm basing the above statement on ref no. 8708.40.43; DC (Developing Countries) and CA (Canada) rates will not apply. The gearboxes are not made in USA; even if they are shipped from there, the Free Trade Agreement should not apply.

Simon's pricing is probably all-inclusive of duy, GST and freight. CZP's is not. Macman, as the GB arranger, may be able to confirm.

These gearboxes will not be coming in via Australia Post, they will be arriving through a freight company by sea, and will be subject to customs regardless of whether Simon imports them or someone arranges shipment from Coz. It would be foolish to make a purchase decision without including the 10% duty and 10% GST; and to be pedantic, the GST calculation is made on the freight cost as well. And unless you have access to a locked in contract freight rate, I would expect any freight quote from 3 months ago to have increased for obvious reasons.

I an a past+future customer of both CZP and TTZ, but if I had been able to participate in this GB I would have gone with Simon/TTZ. My calcs show that a batch of 5 gearboxes from Coz would end up between $2800-$2900 each all up (based on estimates for freight and clearance); for $150 extra I would prefer the certainty of TTZ's figure.

If the GB were to proceed with CZP, and duty/GST did not get whacked on, then that should be considered a bonus for all participants. Just don't count on that happening.

this talk about which option is cheaper has already been discused.

this is the stuff I wanted keep leave out of this post:bash: . It was all discussed in the previous EOI. http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=270996
If you think you can get a better deal from coz, speak to him and let us know before the 15th of August 2008. Otherwise sit tight till I get an answer from Simon on the current price so we can get some gearbox's.

    This ends here please.

I'm still interested, once you have some firm figures and know who they are coming from and how long they will take I'll have a definate answer.

Come on mate, you're asking us to budget $800 more than the best price discussed in the other thread....

As above I am interested and have the money but there's no way I'm paying $3k for it through ttzed when the price coz quoted was only $2200. Even allowing for GST and duty we're still only talking $2640 through a much more reliable supplier.

    As Mac stated....

If the price from Coz is so great then can someone get in touch with him and confirm if it is still valid?

No argument with your views Mike

..though using the words "certainty" and "TTZ" in the same sentence is a bit brave. :p

I have had sea freight come in before and not had to pay duty, and I have had to pay it too. It's all in the luck of the draw. All I was saying is that a gearbox freighted from the USA has a very good chance of being exempted under the FTA. Unless, of course, "Made In Japan" was fuoroed on the crates. A private rather than a business address helps a lot too.

Let's see what flows from here.

    Quote from Coz

OK guys I'm getting a quote from coz. Actually I'm getting two, the first one is for all five boxes to my address and then we redistribute from Sydney, the second is for all to individual addresses so no need for local post.

If you are 100% in at the $3k/ttzed price and want to see if we can get it cheaper from coz, can you please advise your postcode so as coz can calculate infividual shipping costs.

This by no means indicates a commitment to buy. I'm not trying to detract from the good work macman has done, but I think we can do better and want to chase down some bottom line pricing in $AUD.

And the price from coz, shipped individually to your address is roughly $2505, pending exchange rates.

So where does that leave us??
