Nothing wrong with giving your opinion it just seems odd since usually most members here love their car. :\

if u have the same feelings about 300zx's like we do you will get a zed and not the 34. Have patience and look around more.

i do, have said so in one of the replies too. it doesn't meam i'm totally blind to the bad aspects which come with the good. if you think it's depressing that's ok, they're not going to go away if you ignore them.

Each to there own i suppose, the Skyline is a fantastic vehicle, both mechanicaly and cosmeticly. But once you find the right Z, like i did...or sevrel lol, i could never own anythin else. The Z32 Z'ds.....unique and not every P player or who ever, owns one, it is old but has held its shape well since '89. The N/A's are wicked cruiz cars and they got some grunt for an N/A. The TT's are Hot quick track cars for the 1/4. A skyline....especially an r34 is F'in nice, but......the skyline is common, and also is amoung the hoon scene. thats how i see it around the cruiz's on weekends. Sorry if i offended anybody by that remark.

Its all about the dollar....If you can afford to maintain the Z its definatly worth it.
A skyline is cheaper to work on in a way, not talking about certin parts though lol.

I suppose, they have great performance with there Rb engine tho when worked, but its something about the sleek sexy side on look of a Z rolling on fats thats got me hooked lol

Nah, I quite like them. No haven't got enough spare dosh to justify a R34 GTR.

I'd say that by now most Z32s are down as

restoration projects or in need of some sort of restoration of which I'm doing.

If car restoration / maintenance is not in the blood get an R3x and be done with it.

All I can say is putting new parts back on the Z32 brings it back to 'factory' showroom quality. This is very rewarding, because you can see what these cars would have been like when new. They are awesome. Especially when all panels are aligned and when worn/torn rubbers and trimming is replaced and there is attention to detail which sadly is as rare as common sense these days.

Regarding turbos and seals blowing

Next turbo rebuild, fit a step seal ;) in place of the generic garbage seal in each turbo and the turbos will outlast your car provided that they are not starved of oil.

    owning a zed...

in my opinion is like owning a toy. I never intended the zed to be a daily driver. It was always to be the weekend toy as I have always had a 2nd car (now 3). Therefore, I maintain it, look after it and think about many projects that I would like to do. As such, even after 8 years of ownership, and lots of ups and downs, my zed is still a keeper and will never be sold. It only gets driven to "safe" places, ie, no shopping centres, no crowded car parks, no dimly lit streets. I have even driven home before when I couldnt find suitable parking that I was happy with. Yes I am anal. But I am very happy in the quality of my zed and hence aim to look after it. I am even playing with the idea of buying a 2nd zed and turning it into a track car. But that is still a few years away, and I havent quite spoken about that to the wife yet..:)

The person who buys an old mustang or old classic car, does not buy it for reliability or as a daily driver. Nor does he / she buy it thinking it is better than the cars that are made today. No, he / she buys it because it means something to them and they just really like it, warts and all. Although the zed may never reach classic status as the mustangs or old 240'z, the analogy still applies.

So if you really want a zed, be patient and you will find the one you want. Just expect that it may need some work like any other 20 year old car. If all you want is a daily driver that will be cheap to run and fix, dont buy a 300zx Z32. They are great cars yes, but with their complexity and their age, you will need to fork out some cash.

    WRONG

If you dont drive your car but just look at it in the garage, you CAN ignor all the problems and they DO go away :D

They all come back though when you turn the key :zlove:

Hah..ricebarn. True that. When the cabinet with a huge sign ''PERFORMANCE'' above it is full of crap no-name gearknobs, southern cross decals and smelly trees you know the shop isn't serious.

Anyone who buys an old car as daily driver and ends up caring about it is crazy.

I have only put 6000 klms on mine in 4 years and it lives in my garage. Sitting there looking lovely and waiting for me drive it.

One day it will be worth cash. I will still have it and it will still be pristine.

Everytime I take it out on a Saturday night and park it I worry whats happening to it most of the night till I get back to it. So I end up taking the ute instead.

If you want a daily driver buy a Commodore, money you save will be your own.

Only R34 or R33 to buy is a GTR. I wouldnt bother buying anything else.

There are just as many basket case R32 GTR's around as there are basket case Z32's

you say that you want tog eta Zed when ur older and more smarter etc. Mate, the only way to get smarter with a Z is to get one and work on it. sure it might cost a lil bit of money, and u will get a couple headaches, but in the end you should end up with a nice car that looks good, goes well and you wouldnt want to sell cause you are in love with it. The Z is very much an enthusiasts car, with the constant tinkering and its age, but thats why we do it, because we love it. when i bought my z is wasnt boosting and had all sorts of really weird problems. but me and my mates spent many late nights working on it in the canberra cold and it pulled through, very nice car now with a real strong engine. Get into a Z sooner rather then later. just buy a crap daily to get you around when ur Z is in parts in ur garage!

i think the Z will reach calssic status one day. thnk about it, theyre looks are ahead of time and there part of the Z family, which already has classic cars in it. theyre gettin rarer, especially good examples of them. very worthwhile owning one and hanging onto it.

If some of you pansies complaining about your car actually picked up a tool once in your life, you wouldn't experience half the problems you do...

    Exactly!

Old Skylines experience just as much trouble as old 300ZXs, go ask a few people who bought bunky GTRs from Japan just how much it has cost them to maintain. People reading this thread wouldn't even believe this forum is a 300ZX forum by half the responses, it's sad.
