Ordinarily I get about 450km before the fuel light comes on, which is when I fill up, I could get well over 500km if I ran it to empty. That's a mix of stop start city driving and spirited country road driving.

Sitting at constant speed on the highway I get about 10L/100km. (Tested between Sydney and Melbourne.) Which equates to just over 700km if the tank were to be run dry.:D

if they were to come on the gor cruise or any other cruise with us i wonder how surprised they will be if they saw our cars in motion...skylines are nice...some of them are like r33gtr and all that but we have some nice zeds too and if they could see one day, alot of them would just shut up:D...would be nice to see our zeds against skylines on the gor though:D:zlove:

i got 365km to half a tank last week, that was with alot of stop start and some boosting, dont know why you guys cant manage to pump 400km from a tank? maybe you need to learn how to contorl your right foot, or get new o2's.

I have to disagree with Ugame, even with HICAS locked out the zed isn't as easy to drift as a mildly worked S13, the zed just has too much chassis grip. Not saying you can't drift the Z, but the S13's are ridiculous

I think the real issue is, who cares about fuel economy???

No turbocharged car will have good fuel economy, for that matter, no really fast car will get good fuel economy.

The fact is, that knob on Skylines Australia blamed the car because he's too much of a retard to put fuel in! It's like blaming a car for an accident when he expected it to steer itself in and out of corners! Seriously annoys me!

i would have to disagree, look at the forum in the last 6 months and compare the over heating problems to the sau forum. you will find the zx is far outweighted than any skyline in heating issues. and now you will say "oh but ppl dont take care of there cooling systems", but its a matter of reliability. problems are easier to come by in a zx than any skyline, and if you disagree then you just havent come across any problems in your z, and trust me its coming:) no matter how much you take care of it, and thats only cause of its age. as for fuel... i had a ground up rebuild performed by joe from montrose motors 9,000km ago and i have no change in getting over 400km a tank in suburban areas

I reckon the fuel economy is pretty good, its better than my brand new company car 2008 WRX which has less power, less weight and is much slower than my Zed. Lucky to get 300km out of the WRX with a $70 fill, vs the Zeds 400km or so on the same amount. As for overheating, never had a problem with that in 9 years of ownership.

i guess the fact my NA zed is getting around 500 - 550 km to a tank wouldnt change anything either.

The thing i hate about skylines is there are so many of them out there whats the difference between one skyline to the next. I dont care how much power or cheaper they might be to run. I think the 300zx is why more stylish and way more supercar looking then any of the skylines every released. I bet most of the skylione owners on that forums have probably lost their licence more then once before and have spent more money on speeding fines then us zedders have.

  10. Benny_C

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

    Fuel economy has little

to do with if you have a fresh engine rebuild or not, it's more to do with your tune mainly, second to that is that all your sensors and connectors are working properly so they're sending your ecu accurate engine information.

Coolant issues at the end of the day still have to do with condition of hoses, jackets, joiners, radiator, radiator cap, etc all of these things need to be kept in good order no matter what car you drive. It may be more concerning in a Zed due to requiring more hoses than an RB engine, but still if all components are in good order and there is no huge mofo i/c blocking your radiator, there still should be no troubles - just like any other car.
If you look over previous threads with coolant problems, you will find they have a reason for being a problem.
eg, I fixed a problem in member Bigchoofa's zed the other day where his coolant temp ECU sender plug had a shitload of corrosion build-up on it so it was only letting the ECU know the temp was ~71 degrees (below operating temp) so no fans were running and it was still thinking the coolant/engine was cold - when I cleaned the connectors and tested again, it actually showed nearly 90 degrees! now if that had not been fixed, he could have cooked his engine ... and could have blamed it on a coolant issue. (not to say he would, but i'm using this as an example)
... now this could have happened just as easily to a skyline/commonhore/skippiru.

    Its a

skyline forum, what do people expect them to say, (yer tell your GF to get it quick) That dose not excuse many off their members lack of knowledge about zeds, or ever there own cars. In the end they can say whatever they like, ignorance is bliss, and its seems to be in a never ending supply at sau.

haha at the "ran out of fuel" comments - are people that stupid?

I suppose skylines never run out of fuel?

and haha at the "had gearbox problems"

also suppose skylines never have gearbox problems?

allthough.. TT as a first car.. lol we've seen what happens with a number of our members buying TT's as first cars... to be honest i'm surprised I never had an accident (that was my fault) in mine in the first few months of owning it

Then we agree actually i think.... im confused lol

I was saying WITH hicas, the Zed is a pig to drift (coz hicas is designed to STOP you drifting...its what its for) but without it its easier

But if i were into drifting, id choose an S13 any day of the week. (well 180sx actually... Silvia's are ugly  lol)

I was simply saying that guy was probably talking aboiut a Zed WITH HICAS.

But that said... his argument is pointless. The whole quesiton was "Should my GF buy a zed as her first daily" pretty much (in my words)

It was not "hey, my GF is a fully sik drift chick and wants a 300ZX for comp"

So wtf was that guy talking about anyway?

The true measure of whether a sports car is a good handling vehicle, or not, is in it's ability to negotiate tight, winding corners on moderate to high speed roads, without losing traction/grip(and an ability to lay down bags of power whilst still maintaining that grip).
Drifting is the antithesis of this because it relies on an almost total loss of grip(which then needs a skillful driver at the wheel, if you hope to avoid disaster). Drifting is spectacular to watch, but is really just Dirt Track Speedway on bitumen).

mine HAD a huge mofo i/c and still no overheating issues.
And thats after buying a damn good AM Temp guage from PZP to keep an eye on things.

That would be a bit to keen, you do need a bit of know-how.

    yep

so in the S13 vs Zed equation, the Z wins hands down

Allthough some S13's have hicas too, but im not sure it works the same....anyone?
