Gear boxes and diffs

I have been running stock gearbox for years in my zed race car and had no issues at all running Redline Shockproof gear oil cocktail mix. Recently changed fluid trying a different brand and synchros are now gone and finally getting my straight cut Dog box made by PPG. I do run a single plate clutch though not a gear smashing twin plate or worse triple plate. I have improved the ratios but fitting a 4.375 diff and later changed to 4.1 Kaaz custom 1.5 way diff, 20 plate. Stock diff is around 3.7 ratio and viscous coupling, which is average. Stock the gear ratio is way too tall. If you have the option go 4.375 otherwise called 4.4 as gets going a lot quicker and only downside is with big power you brake traction and would run out of rpm at Phillip Island. I hit 7,500rpm in fifth with current 4.1 ratio.

If you can afford it the Os Gear Set would be the go, otherwise PPG if you want stronger Helical Dog Box, although costs a bit more, although it is stronger and is close ratio 2nd to 5th.

Factory zedtt R230 diff weighed 52 kg R32 GTR diff R200 weighed 36kg and less rotating mass.





We had to machine spacers to fit the narrower diff to meet up with the zed tt drive shafts, and custom make rear upper mounts in diff cradle as well as a spacer for tailshaft until we went custom one peice tailshaft.

Curious Fleet what diff, gearbox and clutch do you have currently??

 

diff is stock TT diff with the Richmond / Leader gears.

gearbox is stock TT box.

clutch is Exedy 5 puck brass button clutch.

So what ratio is the diff and is it viscous or clutch pack. You are a good driver.

Same kart, similar weight ? Pete does not make much of a foot print on the ground though.

 

which go kart day are we referring to? if its the darlington park day from a couple of years ago, then I recall having the fastest lap time.

 

I think the ratio is 4.1, and being the stock diff wouldnt it be viscous?
