The 1996 federal laws in the USA state that cars sold for public roads must be OBD11.compliant. That's why the ZX ECU was changed to 16 BIT. to comply to the USA laws.
Unfortunately you cant import or even register a 2000 model in Australia unless it was all done prior to the ending of the old 15 year import rule or something along those lines. 2000 model parts can be installed onto an earlier model Z like what I did with mine. SIM300 has the only 2000 model registered on the forums.
You will have to check the current import laws for bringing in a 2k, but positive they are ineligible. Jono's was brought in as a personal import some time ago. To do so yourself, you will have to move to Japan, buy a 2k, live there for 12 months (with the car registered in your name) and then apply to bring it back. Mind you, there are limitations as to how many times you can leave the country in that time. To bring 1 in for off-road purposes only, quite sure you will require a CAMS license. The vehicle will never be permitted to be complianced. Only other way to do it is in 2 pieces. Mind you, Jono's was far from pristine condition when he purchased it from Chilledpain in WA, requiring a considerable amount of effort to bring it to its current standard. Again, echoing that its not the year that determines the condition. Unfortunately, the z32 has become a car that isn't financially worth the effort
Sorry, but this statement is complete and utter horse shit. Series is fine with me. How else are you going to describe spec years? Model series sometimes straddle different years, so it's generally easier to say 'series' despite it not being an 'official' Nissan term. How exactly is using 'series' to denote specification models deemed to be inaccurate or confusing? Its use is there to completely counteract it! There are variances within those 'series' and also some rare mongrel cars which seemed to have a mixture of specification. But rule of thumb, 'series' is a great way to understand the specifications and changes made to the Z32 throughout its life.
Mint no crash history, 12/97 2+0 pearl white slick top TT 30 thou km, Garaged all life, stillen side skirts, 2k seats & wing. Daydream.
Chilledpain had one for sale a while ago, not sure if it went to a forum member.... I did not have the cash at the time or it most definately would have.
Others seem to understand the issues, I realise you don't but I guess like other you may have a barrow to push in the situation (like your boyfriend) hardly objective comment. http://www.300zxclub.com/showthread.php?t=222851
The only thing I would change with mine would be lower k's and in better original condition. Basically showroom condition, but that is just unrealistic really. But being a 2000 model, twin turbo, manual trans, Version S, arctic pearl white is what I would have put down as my dream combo from factory so I do consider myself lucky to have such a rare example. As for 20XX I would LOVE it if a new Z was released with forced induction & would seriously consider one (if the cosmetic appeal was there) :zlove:
1989 Z32 300zxtt....... the 1989 Z32 version of the 300zxtt was 'far and away' the most improved zed Nissan ever produced No other example of the zed (before or after) possessed such a huge overall leap in a combination of power. handling and outright style "Here endeth the discussion" :zlove:
97 Slicktop Manual, Black cloth interior. I think I'm bias tho haha. It's the latest model I could find with hardtop in aus! Putting as much 2k spec on as I can.
Who is missing what point. (Your point wasn't strictly focussed on 1990 - 2000 models until your following posts). If ZX99 is answering your opening post (which he quoted) then his answer is right to the point. Remember that even though this forum is named after the Z32, it does try to cover all the Z cars now. I agree that the dramatic change in the Zed in 1989 made it the best Z ever, but within the 1990-2000 models, I would pick the newest best condition 2+2 turbo with electric rear bits.
Zx99 is missing the point by looking at the biggest leap forward. 89 is going to be way more advanced then a z31. However a z32 s6 in theory is more advanced so better then a 89 s1. I wasn't asking for the biggest leap forward. I was asking for the best overall package. An example of this is in my opinion the 94 year models would be best because they had an electric hicas system and as a result were lighter. Had a quicker steering ratio. Larger ecu. But early enuogh to still have variable cam timing. And while yes I didn't restrick my question to just z32's I felt it was implied being this site is aus300zx. I think most understood what I was asking and as a result no one has mentioned the z33 or z34.
My JDM '00 model retains VTC. It was the US market that lost it. The US also retained the EGR valve, where as mine had it removed from factory. Also while I'm here my ECU is 16bit, but is not ODB2.
I think you're missing the point....... The BIG differences were made going to the Z32 in '89. From '89-'99 there was 'half a poofteenth' appreciable difference between the whole friggin lot Anyone looking for a Z32 should buy the best, well maintained example they can find because that is 'money in the bank' when it comes to zed ownership. The 'bells and whistles' on various year models are insignificant in the real world.
