I read a write up some time ago where they got a Skyeline GTR and a 300zx twin turbine from a new Nissan dealer showroom and tested them 0 to 60 miles per hour & 0 to a quarter mile. and the results were no winners [times were the same as each other]

That there is what we call a logical fallacy. If they go fast and you go fast, you're likely to stay around the same distance from each other.
I have a 300zxtt basically stock that I push around lakeside Qld, I Have to say that R32 GTRs knock the sh++ out of me, not down the straight but when it comes to cornering the 4 wheel drive and piggy back turbos are the winner. This coming year with my boosted engine (hopefully 500HP) and some decent semislicks, I will give them a run for their money. Or maybe I will die in the attempt.
You'll be right Martin, you mentioned driver lessons when I picked up that seatbelt, you should be sweet with 500 horses , chew those GTR's and 911's up!
Realistically, who gives a flying f$ck what your 20 year old car is faster than. Compare it to another equally dated Nissan Taxi (skyline) to add 0.1mm to you c@ck size, then get blitzed by a family sedan Ford Typhoon. Hopefully before you either a. lose you license, b. blow your motor up trying to prove something, or c. customise your bodywork around a pole, you will come to the realisation that you don't have, nor should you want to prove anything by driving a 300zx. I get the same pleasure driving my NA Auto as I do my TT Manual. Who cares what its faster, or slower than? Public Transport is without fail the slowest means that your attitude will inevitably lead you to.... or me buying your car for $1300 with a blown motor
if your z gets beaten by a stock typhoon it's got problems, or just not enough boost. believe it or not, i once lined up against a 355 ferrari and pulled away in 3rd gear, 1st and second was quite even due to my wheel spin. Could barely even hear my own car. if your Z engine is healthy and you get it breathing a bit better and puffing some more boost, they are deadily for a midly modded cheap car. but all those days are behind me now, learnt my lesson!
Very believable vs V8 ferrari's, theyre performance specs arent particularly impressive... especially once you consider how much you have to pay
