well I havent experienced it myself. But word is yes they are better. But i have also read they are very easy to stuff up from fouling. and also dont last quite as long. I would have been happy with platinums. But these will do.
Got thru' OK to #7.... got a bit lost; ditto #9 Ordered a replacement ECU from JustJap by courier.... Might have some forum cavalry help on way, but not certain... lucky he's married, I was gunna offer him one/both of my twin daughters as payment... Congratulations to your son and family for his 21st...
Boy, am I SLOW...!!! I have puzzled over this non-start jazz for 2 weeks, and only just lit a lightbulb!! Graham's problem seems resolved as spark plugs, but mine couldn't be - ('cause I supplied a brand new set of Iridiums to a certain workshop who tried to rip me off when this problem first arose) - or could it...?? Guess what? My 'brand new Iridiums' have magical properties... they were able to change themselves BACK into the original set of worn plugs that were in the car when I had it freighted to the workshop to have this problem 'fixed' months ago!!! No wonder the same symptoms persisted until this recent failure!! And, this time, because they were 'new' plugs, I didn't suspect THEM, did I?? Wonder why I DISTRUST Zed workshops...?? And, wonder where my new Iridiums went to...?? And wonder how they had the audacity to want me to pay $2640!!! I'll get a new set and be almost certain they also solve my problem!!
and THIS is why I only work on my car myself !! Its this sort of logic that led me up the garden path. It ran 18 months ago with the same plugs why not now?? Hope it fixes it Mike. Let us know GJ
I hope that does fix the problem Mike. You're about due for some good luck for a change. On a different note, it might be advisable to name this dodgy workmanship provider, so as to remove any misplaced suspicion that could be directed at other reputable/reliable shops. You know the "all tarred with the same brush" syndrome?:zlove::zlove:
New plugs fitted...still no start, even tho' one plug was so badly fouled and 'rusted/corroded' halfway up the body I thought that would be the problem for sure. Let's just say I avoid the Hornsby area, Chili... Also tried a replacement AFM JustJap couriered across for me, but without any change (didn't really expect it, as I have had the car start previously with a busted AFM - just didn't run very well... Next step is to try the ECU they also sent over - but I'm a bit wary of fiddling in this area with my limited experience! Maybe I should just curl up with a good book over Easter... or go back to praying a bit harder!!
I didnt think the plugs would be screwed as you said that you still got no spark when you shoved a screw driver up the coil pack and held it close to the chassis. Are you sure you followed the check list properly? IS the PTU missing an earth? or have you replaced the PTU ? The car will start and run fine without a AFM. It just wont rev past 2500 revs
damn, mike .. just as we were all about to shout ... .. hooray ... may the easter bunny turn your fortunes around ...:zlove: :zlove: :zlove:
Was just 'contemplating' with my eyes shut D ), when I decided to come back and re-read/print-out your list again... Wasn't certain I did the screwdriver up the dack thing correctly as I'm not very good at that sort of thing... , so made a mental note to try again in the morning. And, to go thru' the list procedures again - knowing that I've got the plug side of things sorted (or, could I have purchased a full set of non-functioning brand new plugs...???) - The amount of time and effort we all seem to spend enquiring, sorting out, and fixing problems with these (bloody wonderful) cars makes me wonder at times if we're not all mad!!?? Who in his right mind would go to all this trouble otherwise? (I have FOUR single ladies wanting to meet me from RSVP over Easter and where am I...?? Fiddling in the garage and (thankfully) getting advice from a bunch of great people trying to get my (bloody wonderful) car started!! Of course, if I had my reliable old Ford wagon working instead of sitting next to the Zed with all my tools and spares inside it, I could be out on the 'ran-tan'.... but, I don't think I'd have those 4 ladies taking much interest in me...!! Gunna have a warm Milo, read about the latest Aston DBS in 'Evo' magazine, and THEN re-read your list, Graham.Maybe the old brain will mix the thought patterns overnight and when I check out the list items tomorrow my (bloody wonderful) Zed might turn into a DBS!!
Bugger the zed !! (for the moment) Go meet the girls and take your frustrations out on em I am off to Philip Island tomorrow till Monday. Why dont you call me on Monday night and I will talk you through the check list mate? GJ
While 'contemplating', I could trace the power to the CAS plug (the early check-list items seemed to be OK after Mattie Wokburner explained the actual physical 'take-this-wire...' procedure. The CAS was replaced previously, and connected a Series 2 PTU sent down by K-zed; the ignition relay checked out OK at Nissan Service, so am inclined to think general wiring or CAS plug/wiring is my problem... Am just wondering what the heck the subject of my next writing saga will be...?? Perhaps I should marry one of the rich RSVP ladies and BUY a DBS...even the wrecked one from Casino Royale!!
THAT's just the problem, Oh Father of 21st Birthday Boy... HOW do I 'go meet...'?? The hammer-to-the-head after kicking a few things solved the 'frustrations'... YOU go have a nice time at Philip Bloody Island...!!
mike .. go ..borrow a mate's car or whatever .. go do the easter bunny thing with one/all those bunny-girls .. do it, lad ..!!!
After a day or so of doing what comes naturally to bunnies. Trust me you will feel better about your zed. If you take the old car they may even pay for dinner as you obviously cant afford it !!
HOORAY, HOORAY.... Got the replacement ECU fitted OK...!!! No problem!! Pretty straight forward, just as Wokburner said - also fitted the Series 2 PTU from K-zed; and the new AFM and CAS from JustJap; and the new set of Iridiums; and the new coilpack connectors from Caz; checked the ignition relay again (previously passed by Nissan Service); and the CAS operation; and the plugs to re-check that I was getting fuel; also re-fitted the immobiliser (turned off and then also with the whole thing disconnected).....GUESS WHAT??? The bloody thing still will not fire...!! Bloody wonderful car....but, what a pain in the axxxse...!!! Hope everybody has a GREAT EASTER!! (Now, where the hell do those female Bunnies live....!!)
no good that sucks. just thought i should return the happy easter wishes as im sure you will need them.... untill you find a bunny friend
Haha...used race greyhounds up at Ipi when I lived at Jimboomba - nice place, nice people!! Think I recognise THAT Bunny, but mine would be a looot older by now!! Maybe yours is the daughter....!!
mike .. go bounce a bunny .... forget the zed ..~~~ have a happy and perhaps not so holy ( note the spelling ..!!) easter, you certainly deserve it ....
I GOT ONE!! I GOT ONE!!.... Just had a call from a 'Bunny' inviting me to come visit up the coast for Easter!! Zed... what Zed...!!! 'Tho it'll probably turn out that one (or both) of us will turn out to be just like the Zed - bloody not firing and/or unable to start...!!! Oh, by the way, apologies to Tektrader... didn't mean to take over his thread, but still haven't heard if the new plugs solved his problem.... and, he's pretty much tied up with his son's 21st BIRTHDAY!! I'm sure I speak for us all in wishing Young Tekie a very Happy Birthday and all the best for his life ahead... s'long as he doesn't go buy a Zed...!!!
