Well after the euphoria of getting the car to start for 10secs. I quickly turned it off for the night and headed home.

Today i went back and its DEAD.

I spent all day fiddling with it.

Now get this. Consult says everything is perfect. I have code 55 and all the sensors are working.

I have checked the injectors and rotating the CAS makes them all fire. The plugs are wet so there is fuel getting there.

    But no spark.

I pulled the PTU out and the connectors where basically stuffed. I went and bought new ones and swapped them over. As well as cleaned all the PTU pins. Still no starty.

The coil packs have 12v on them from the relay and the other side of the coil is grounded as it should be.

All seems to be well. But no start. Hmmmmmmm

Could be a buggered PTU but I would have expected the ECU to show the PTU error code.

I will swap the PTU tomorrow. Method is loaning me his S2 PTU to try.

If this dont work. Anyone got any other ideas ???

BTW I tried another ECU and same result as my ECU. So it must be OK.

You didn't leave a rag in there before putting it all back together again did you?? Maybe sucked up the idle intake...I did that once...spent over a week trying to work out why my car wouldn't start without the throttles open and wouldn't idle. :D

PTU can go without an error code...just depends on where abouts in the unit it fries. Either that or you may have fried a fuse, maybe one of the ignition fuses, with the dodgy PTU wiring.

Agreed! Have diagnosed quite a few Zeds with a dead PTU although datascan reports code 55.

All fuses are fine, The connector wiring is the same as it was before but with new pins. I pulled plug Number 1 out. There is no spark at all so this is obviously the issue.

I get NO firing at all. Well with any luck it will be the PTU and off we can go.

Hey, Graham, this appears to be exactly the same sort of problem I'm having (refer thread 'Consult Diagnostic' this section)... perhaps we should combine the threads???:D

AFM will almost always throw a code if it's died complety...if it's send bad voltage the car would still start.

Starter motor? Well he is cranking it, so unless it's by hand then i don't think so

Make sure Crank Angle Sensor plug is sitting correctly

Same thing happened to me and was lost for a while until eventually I figured it out.

Get someone to crank the engine while you wriggle about the CAS plug. If it is the plug the engine will eventually fire.

I pulled the CAS out this afternoon to check.

I can manually rotate the CAS and the injectors fire perfectly.

It should fire a fault code if CAS is screwed. I have a 55

    PTU earth?

Worth checking the PTU earth pin (in case it was accidently shifted in position when you replaced the connectors. Failing that, if its a series 1 ptu, it is likely that the internal earth link has gone open circuit (series II replacement is safest route)

You can use a multimeter in diode test mode to check the ptu pins against the earth pin....will see conductance one way as you bias the junction.

    Good luck

Bob thats a good bit of info. Seems you have been caught before.

I know exactly what you are talking about cause Nissan in their wisdom have put two Black with white spot wires in the PTU loom, AND they are different functions.

I actually checked this to make sure I got it right. And it is earthed !!

I wonder if anyone else knew this!! :D

Unfortunately This isnt the problem. :(

It is a series 1 ECU. I think i will pull the case apart tonight and have a look. Method didnt turn up last night so this issue is still open.

    Thanks Stuey.

Seems Paul turned up late last night and left the S2 PTU for me to try.

    I will have a go tonight. :D

in reguards to ur engin not starting

hey guys not sure if this is the problem, it could be that u have changed the cables over on the ptu their is one 2cables and 2 connections on the ptu u should try change them around, as i had that problem when i was fixin my zed i put it on wrong, and the car turned over but wouldnt start/run so i changed it and it worked fine, see it could just be the wiring not so much the ptu as their is something called human error. if your still stuck u should ask NickName/AKA zed4life, Mark Field , markfieldconsulting@gmail.com , he works on alota zed's and is pritty good at determining what the problem is. anyways guys good luck with fixin ur cars hope you strike some luck in reguards to that problems.

The series 2 PTU didnt fix my problem.

I am thinking its something to do with the old imobilizer system i ripped out. Maybe a busted wire between the ECU and PTU.

Seems I have a project for Saturday now. another one

    Hi Graham...

Have you checked the vital fuses? I had a problem with my Z not starting... ended up tracking it down to a dodgy fuse that was part of the aftermarket alarm system.

Bingo, I'll bet money its the immobiliser

    wiring is the culprit...

Ign circuit is common used in immobilisers.

To tell, you can bypass the immobiliser circuit under the dash by bridging the ignition female terminals in the relay box and see if that gives you power. Or just run a temporary earth straight to the earth pin on the ign relay pins.

If it is something to do with the old immobilizer guess where I will be putting my new one back !!! ;)

This is frustrating to the max.

When i got the car the immobilizer had already been taken out. All that was left was a million splice connectors all over the dash wiring loom. I removed all these.

Maybe I removed too many as the bugger has run before about 18 months ago

I think your right. PTU earth is a good starting point, But i was sure I checked that already. I will do it again.

I have 12v to all the coil packs and the coil pack earth is correct. It must be due to the old immobilizer thats gone discoonnecting the PTU. Possibly a busted wiere where a splice connectors once resided. I hate those with a passion.
