    Hey all,

Looking at getting a torque wrench and found one with electronically adjustable torque settings, but I haven't heard of the company before. Anyone know if they are decent? Just a bit weird that the site feels like it's made for this one product:

I found it for about $150 delivered to Australia on eBay, so it's cheap but not suspiciously so. Worth a try? I'd only really need it accurate to about 10Nm.

Don't know how accurate it is, but Yanks usually make pretty good tools(so assuming it IS actually made in USA, it seems OK for the weekend mechanic).:zlove::br:

I bought my norbar torque wrenches from forum member simmo. Get a price from him before buying anything of questionable quality from eBay.

I'm tempted. It would make a few things so much less worry-some. And it's noted that it is accurate to +/- 3.5% both ways.

Its made in Malaysia. Still looks a quality tool. Cheaper from Amazon than eBay though.

I would stick with something that is supported in Australia. If you purchase a good quality Norbar then it can always get fixed if something goes wrong. Its acurracy is better anyway. If something goes wrong with this Brownline then its a throw away.

What sort of price are the 20Nm-200Nm Norbars?

Related note, why does everyone love snap-on? I never got it. I checked and Snap-on starts at $650 for a analouge torque wrench with a range of 40Nm-200Nm. At that price, I can replace this one 4 times and it's electronic. The lifetime warrenty is nice, but Repco and even Supercheap have that on some of their tools now at a much lower price and they are more than acceptable quality. The only thing I can see snapon have going is they have some fairly unique tools you might not be able to get elsewhere and perhaps if you use them everyday for a trade they might hold up better, but for most of us Zedders it's serious overkill. Except maybe for loud'n'proud.

Oh, and they sell their stuff out the back of a van. The way all good businesses operate :

    I can do the Norbar Professional Mod 200 1/2dve 30-150 FtLb (40-200Nm) $325.00 inc GST. Also a Norbar Tru Torque TT200 1/2dve 30-150 FtLb (40-200Nm) $240.00 Inc GST
Plus postage. I know they a more expensive but a much better quality.

Repco sockets etc are ok, I have a lot of their tools. Their torque wrenches are a base model norbar.

The idea of a torque wrench is to tighten fasteners accurately to a specified amount.
High end torque wrenches are generally more accurate, so you get what you pay for.
Do you want to buy a wrench & then wonder if it's accurate?
    Torque wrenches can be calibrated.
You can get very good buys on Snap-on or other top quality tools out of the USA with our dollar the way it is at the moment.

Are we constructing turbine engines or fastening wheel nuts here?

There is a torque value for wheel nuts.
Wheel studs have been known shear, more than likely from over tightening.

Also wheels have been known to come off from not tightening the nuts enough!

There is a torque range for wheel nuts.

Any concievable tq wrench on the market can make that range. Using an impact gun on full can sheer the studs.

The wrench in question can tighten wheel nuts all day every day in that range, without applying a crazy tq value high enough to sheer the bolt. racing teams in the states use these wrenchs remember.

Use of a torque wrench on wheel nuts will help in stopping rotor warp.It is reconmended to use a torque wrench by Nissan on 300ZX wheel nuts.

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

    THIS is absolutely correct.

Snap-on tools, along with Stahlwillie and probably Proto, back in the day were probably the best tools made anywhere. BUT, Im talking back in the day, when i was an apprentice. Thats a long time ago.
IMHO, still a quality product but overrated and overpriced in todays market.

IMHO again, its hard to go past the humble Repco line of tools.

Warren & Brown are probably the only torque wrenchers ill use. I have two and probably because they'll outlast me!!!
