Tie Rod Spacer Install for More Angle!

OK, BUT dont you have to remove the stoppers that are at the end of the lower control arms ? The wheel cant move past them anyway.

It seems to me that putting these spacers in does a fair bit to stuff the normal steering geometry for anything but drifting by rooting the Ackerman angle up.

I expect bump steer and tyre wear for road use is going to be a fair bit worse.

So in my case with the IKEYA FORMULA arms, isnt it the same concept as removing my shims/spacers to achieve the extra lock?

And this wont affect my ackerman angle ,bump steer

  3. The tie rods hit the rack before the bump stops come into play. And I haven't noticed any increase in toe wear and any significant increase in bump steer since I've done the mod. Honestly, if you're just road racing, you don't need it. These spacers shouldn't affect your ackerman, as the tie rod pick up and the LCA ball joint don't change in relation to each other. Changing the ackerman on our cars would require chopping and welding of the spindle.

In most cases, the tie rod bottoms out against the rack before the bump stops come into play. If the bump stops were limiting my steering, then the spacers wouldn't be increasing my steering angle. But since the spacers have progressively increase my steering angle, it goes to show that the bump stops still haven't come into play.
And you can always shave down the bump stops a bit for more steering, and in your car withe the Ikeya Forumla LCAs, you can remove a few shims.

I really want to do this as well because the steering lock is horrible for N/A. I always assumed it was Nissan being lazy and giving the N/A models the same steering rack as the TT which has the super hicas and make for some decent turning cirlce.

I need it for drifting desperately because im sick of spinning out trying to achieve the angle i want and as for u turns it is embarrasing no being able to do one in a sports car in one go.

    but two things:

I am aware that GK tech make the slip on spacers and my mate is running them on his 180sx would they fit a z32?? seeing as we share many of the same parts

Is there a possibility of any scrubbing issues at full lock will wheel widths pushing 10 inches like i am??

HICAS is not used for parking, Its not like a forklift. HICAS is used at a range of speeds you mostly see on highways.

Lmfao best thing I've heard.. But would make it easier to park with 90degree turning front and rear wheels haha

The super hicas on 300s are different from most other 4ws systems because it operates at all speeds including almost stopped like in parking and u turns.

Yeah that's the gk tech ones will they our racks?

It's not used for parking. It most definitely won't help parking the car. Hicas is locked out at parking speeds. Only used at mostly highway speeds. Refer manual for more info.

    Wow, didn't know that.
I have driven Hondas and the 4ws was definitely useful at parking speeds.
I was able to park in very tight spaces, but this caused a problem for other cars infront and behind. Ruined the Honda paint front and rear. :(

I always wondered why so many were so keen to delete hicas.
Thought it would have given tighter turning circle.
So does this mean hicas has no effect on turning circle?

Dreamzzz, I don't know if the skyline/200sx adapters fit z32.
Someone who knows might chime in.
They are cheap enough if someone in Melbourne is nice enough to try.
    Less than $40?

It was just a guess. so both TT and N/A models have shit house steering lock?

Just gotta first out if we share the same rack and tie rod sizes for the slip ons. Yeah its a really cheap mod that's why Im keen to do it

Seemed more like a statement than a guess.

But yes the only difference is the steering ratio, not the lock.

Depending on the speed hicas works in different ways.

At lower speeds, if the front wheels turn left, the rear wheels will turn right. This allows the car to turn more sharply. At higher speeds, if the front wheels are turned left, the rear wheels will turn left and the car won't turn as sharply. It's supposed to aid in stability.

I've driven my friends r32 heaps of times and it feels like a death trap on the highway when the rear wheels decide to give a little kick.

Hicas doesn't work at speeds that you'd encounter whilst parking unless you're one of the blues brothers.

Hicas operating at parking speeds (I think) and slow U-turns would be useful.

We can U-turn at traffic lights in QLD. I had to 3 point it once.

Hicas only adds 1 degree of turning it's really not much. I doubt if you would barely notice it if it came on at low speeds to help with steering.
